Masahiro Sakurai, the game designer behind Smash Bros and Kid Icarus: Uprising is adamant that the forthcoming Smash Bros game for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be a vast improvement over its predecessor Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii.
“There are many things that can be improved upon even in Brawl. Also, I think you can base your expectations of the new Smash Bros. once you see how well-made Kid Icarus is. The director of each game is the same, but because I regularly change my team around after projects, we will be able to see how good the team is then.”
However he wouldn’t be drawn on which Nintendo characters should be included on the roster this time. “That is completely undecided, but it is true that Nintendo has not created many new characters lately.”
New IP’s, Nintendo. New IP’s will give you new characters to draw from. And thanks to DLC, when you make new IP’s, those characters can be downloaded into Super Smash Brothers 4. :-)

i wouldn’t want DLC characters on SSB4. I just don’t like the idea of having to go online to buy more content for a physical game that already cost the buyer around $50. I think that concept should be left for games that you have to go online to buy in the first place and don’t cost much, like Mega Man 9 and 10

Link is a great character if you spend the 5 minutes thy it takes to get used to him. He’s my best character since Melee! He isn’t broken at all, except for his Hookshot grab, that sucks.

They should make the game harder to unlock Characters! SSB brawl was a JOKE! It was way too easy unlocking everyone! The game got boring quick. Melee was the best! I worked blood and sweat unlocking Mewtwo! I felt awesome after unlocking him! Don’t make it easy to unlock characters because people don’t have the skills!
It wasn’t hard to un-lock anyone in Melee, it just took forever and forced you to play for a long period of time. With Brawl, you had the option of being able to quickly unlock them through Adventure Mode. I don’t want to play 1000 hr.s of the next Super Smash Bros. just to unlock the last character.

What’s the problem that needs to be fixed with Link in Brawl?
Wolf Link probably won’t happen, more than likely the Link in this game will be the one from Skyward Sword. ‘Cause I mean, think about it, in each Smash Bros game it has always been the that the most recent console Link is the Link that appears. Original was OoT Link, Melee was graphically improved OoT Adult Link for regular Link, and graphically improved OoT Young Link was Young Link in Melee. For Brawl they put in TP Link as regular Link, and WW Link for Toon Link. It only makes sense that SSB4 Link will be the one from Skyward Sword. Well at least the regular Link will be SS Link. By this logic the Zelda of SSB4 will also probably be the Zelda from SS, and they’ll probably make Demon Lord Ghirahim playable. But since Ganon’s not going to be in SS maybe they’ll just keep the TP version of him? Or create him as he would have been in SS had he appeared?
Also, I personally think all the characters who got cut from Brawl should come back in SSB4, and they shouldn’t cut anyone from Brawl, that way they’d have all the past characters, then they should add like 10-15 new ones like say Spyro the Dragon, Shadow the Hedgehog, Issac from Golden Sun, Greil from FE: PoR/RD, The Black Knight/Zelgius from FE: PoR/RD, one of the other bounty hunters from Metroid Prime Hunters, just to throw out a few ideas. Oh and if Final Smashes return, they definitely need to be more balanced as do the characters in general.
Oh and finally, to whoever it was that said “Mr Ford” should be playable and whoever didn’t know who that is, I am pretty sure that is the character you play as in the Conduit and Conduit 2.

As long as SSB4 isn’t like SSBB, I’ll be happy. Brawl sucked. We need to go back to the way Melee was, but with more original characters. And take out Sonic
ok didnt you notice that drill kicks (down and A with mario or fox in air etc) didnt work you just come out ok yes speed up the game play but i dont want to go back to fox’s sideward A in air kicking opoponets out on the first hit he does five kicks and in mele on one hit. thats why i love brawl but what the did with falco(my main for melee) was sad made him weeker and still slower
How did Brawl suck? It’s far better than Melee. Why does everyone hate Sonic? Also, to add to my other comment about bringing back all the characters, all the past stages should be brought back in SSB4 and plus make new ones of course.
melee was better because there was actually speed to the game. that got decreased a good bit because they had to make sonic seem really fast. fox doesn’t even seem fast in brawl because of sonic. that, plus brawl’s physics are all floaty. add that to annoying new items and you have an inferior game. i enjoyed the story mode, but that was about it.
melee didn’t have broken characters like the god-tier metaknight. the highest-tier character in melee was what, fox? and he wasn’t that difficult to take out in melee. melee made you actually do something to unlock the 11 secret characters, whereas unlocking the 16 secret characters in brawl only required you to complete story mode, with the exception of toon link, jigglypuff, and wolf, who you had to find and fight. melee had original target tests for each character, instead of the same 5 target tests (that have items to help you) that apply to all 35 brawl characters. melee had event matches that were actually worth doing and they didn’t give you the option of playing them on easy mode.
brawl may have internet capabilities, but it’s generally really crappy and laggy. the stage maker is also pretty underwhelming, and that concept had limitless potential. then it took falco, a very cloney clone character, and turned him to pure crap to make him slightly less cloney. kicking the reflector made it so useless. the best thing about brawl is that you can use it to get the homebrew channel, and i highly doubt that was intentional.
so how is brawl far better than melee?
Falco is crappy in Brawl? Clearly you don’t know how to use him. Kicking the reflector is actually really useful. You can use it as an attack to stun people and deal minor damage. Plus actually reflecting stuff with it results in more damage and launch distance than Fox’s reflector. Falco is one of my mains in Brawl and I do great with him (Link is my other). So clearly you’re just doing it wrong.
Fox isn’t that hard to beat in this game either, he never was.
The difference in speed is really not that noticeable, you can get used to it. As for annoying new items, turn the ones you don’t like off, or hell, turn them all off. Problem solved.
I’ll admit Brawl’s Target Test is disappointing, but does that really matter? It’s freaking Target Test, not important. Event Matches, same thing, who cares? Such a minor part of the game that it makes no difference.
Don’t bring up tiers to me, they’re not important. All they effect is which CPUs of the same level as other CPUs will win or lose in CPU only battles. Tell me, who sits around watching CPU battles? Probably nobody. Any character can be good if you know how to use that character properly.
Also why does it matter HOW you unlock characters? I’m sure most players were glad to know they wouldn’t have to fight another 700 vs matches or have the game on for 20 hours straight just to unlock one character (Mewtwo). Melee’s character unlock requirements were stupidly ridiculous and took too much time. Most people do things other than just play Smash Bros. Though if I remember correctly, and correct me if I’m wrong, but couldn’t those characters also be unlocked through Melee’s Adventure Mode? Which BTW, that Adventure Mode was also better than Brawl’s story mode, so again if that was one of your favorite parts of Brawl, you’re still doing it wrong.
Brawl’s crappy online comes from the Wii having crappy online in general.
Finally, as for Stage Builder, its really not underwhelming, there are plenty of options with what they give you (though I hope they improve it in SSB4). Still, my friends and I have made great stages from it.

Oh, I didn’t read you post. I was replying to the individual above. Sorry for the confusion.
However, I just read your post and I have a couple of points to point out. Firstly, I think the pace of Brawl is fine the way it is; honestly, I don’t notice a significant difference in Melee, though I haven’t played that in years. But I think Brawl is balanced in that regard.
Now, this is just one way to look at it, the unduly hard requirements to unlock certain characters (not necessarily hard, but time-consuming) in Melee, I kind of like because it is very gratifying when you finally unlock that character. I can understand why some may not want to go through all the trouble, though.
Also, while it is true that the Wii has sub-par online capabilities, Brawl could have been done better, I think. Mario Kart Wii is nearly flawless in that area. But maybe I’m wrong; maybe Brawl is just too complicated to have a smooth online experience on the Wii. We’re all hoping that Wii U (and 3DS, maybe) will fix that, and I have no doubts that it will.
Lastly, while I quite enjoyed the stage builder, it was a little limited. But some would argue that this fosters creativity, much like the Mii creator. That being said, there still is a limitless number of stages you can create, so it’s a novel feature. I hope they add that in Smash 4 and improve upon it greatly.
com on like bralw beter but what the did with faloce no way he need to chage him back. look in melee i cud grab thow down reflector(in melee it send then straight up and its supposed to)jump drill kick(down in air) the reflector falco was way slower then fox but way stronger no hes weaker and slower
Playable Ridley Character = Mind blown, pants creamed, expectations exceeded.
No matter how you make him, Ridley would be in the God-Tier. I mean this in a good way–

well, i’m thinking one or two pokemon characters, maybe one that will replace jigglypuff. possibly the most usless pokemon in a SB game. (but it’s a classic- NO it’s fucking gay and done with!!)
if they can, i’d LOVE to see Travis Touchdown and Jack Cayman
the only thing is that it may or may not get more violent with such characters
and, if possible add new GAMEPLAY to it, characters are one thing, but what about an addition of fatalities. like jack could ram his saw through them, split em apart as blood splashed down upon his face or for travis he gives a crazy blow and they explode into coins. (if i remember correctly)
so add some more to gameplay and if possible, i’d cum if they added TT and JC and for the love of god replace jigglyqueef.

As awesome of a game as Brawl is, Nintendo could have picked much better characters! I mean, Ike-LAME, Capn Olimar-LAME, Pit-LAME, and Pokemon Trainer-LAME!!!! Take some of these losers and replace them with some worthy characters! I had better see Waluigi and/or Zant at least! Rant ended…
Ike is not lame. Fire Emblem is a great game series, and its very under-represented, and the 2 games that Ike is in are the best in the series so it was good to see Ike playable even though I personally find him too slow. He should be fixed and return in SSB4. Pit is not lame either. Sure Kid Icarus only had one game (until the new one for 3DS), but that doesn’t matter. He’s a classic character because of that one game.
I would agree with Waluigi though, and they should make Wario not suck. Make him like he was in the Wario Land or WarioWorld whatever it is. Zant won’t happen though, he wasn’t in Brawl so he won’t be in this. Especially since the Zelda characters in this will most likely be in their Skyward Sword incarnations. On that note I want Ghirahim to be playable, perhaps replace Ganondorf?
Kid Icarus did not only have one game in its franchise. It has two. There was a sequel on the Game Boy. ;)

“Fire Emblem” just strikes me as the type of series that Nintendo made to try and recreate “The Legend of Zelda” and it cant be topped. But that’s me. Yes Ghirahim would be cool to see as playable, but Ganondorf I would have remain since he has very strong attacks and is a formidable character!
Fire Emblem isn’t even in the same genre as The Legend of Zelda. How did you come up with that? FE is a turn-based tactical strategy game, not an action/adventure game. :/

The characters are NOTHING like Loz’s! Leon from The Sacred Stones. COMPLETELY ORIGINAL (and the best character ever). On that note, I seclare myself the Official Ambassador for Leon! Vote Leon, or he’ll send his zombie dragon after you! :D

If the next Smash had Melee mechanics then I’d be in. Brawl was horrible is terms of the competitive scene and I know of many people who still play Melee over Brawl.

I say the more playable characters the better. Bring back the missing characters from melee, dont take any out from the brawl roster, And keep adding more! :D
I respectfully disagree that Sonic and Falco suck. Although Falco’s attacks are a little weaker in Brawl than in Melee, I do agree that Jigglypuff and pretty much all other Pokemon suck(except for Lucario). I just think that they could replace a lot of the “old hat” characters so to speak with new ones.

i think any character can be good as long as you know how to use them. for example, my friend can pretty much kick my ass with kirby, but when i play as kirby, i get the living crap beat outta me haha its all about skill ;) i think im pretty good with all the pokemon characters though :O

Jiggly is epic if you can use him/her right! I say don’t take out any characters. There will always be someone who can use them properly.
Unless your talking about Sonic. He is EXTREMELY overpowered. Weaken his FS and his other attacks. He’s a like a glass cheetah pillow– speedy but weak, both offensivly and defensevly.

God, I can’t WAIT to see how they butcher the next Smash game. Brawl was god awful. There was virtually NO hitstun, wavedashing was removed, and I forget if they left in l-cancelling or not. It’s a good thing there’s people that can mod that know how to make the supposed “sequel” to a game actually worth playing. No doubt they’re leaving in the disgusting afterbirth known as “smash balls” in. They should just remove items in general with the exception of character projectiles (Samus’s plasma beam and missiles, Link’s arrows and boomerang, etc.) I ALSO hope that they make the next one balanced so that NO CHARACTERS are DEFINITIVELY better than other ones. Also, bring back Doc and YLink. Roy and Pichu are better off dead.
