Hyrule Historia Reveals Origin Of Link, Impa And Zelda’s Name

The recently released Hyrule Historia has revealed the origins behind Zelda, Link and Impa’s names. Impa’s name derived from the word impart, due to the fact that she imparts the Legend of Zelda. Zelda was named after a famous writer’s wife, Zelda Fitzgerald who was renowned for her beauty. Link is supposed to be a character that links the energy throughout the world and transcends time so Miyamoto named the main character Link.

          1. xD This is the first (lulz) and last time I’m doing that. I think it’s pretty funny how the trolls get to people. And I’m 15.

    1. Skyler you can only be first when you finish blowing me. Taking my penis out of your mouth just to type first doesnt actually make you first…

    1. Yeah i’ve known how link and zelda got their names for years. the only thing new about this to me is how impa got her name

  1. Oh my GOD. Amazing. Can we please get the whole timeline plus the rest of the book posted. Haha. The news is cool and all, but im tired of having to keep coming back to read 1-3 new facts. Love the site but wait until we have a butt load of info.

On seconds thought….just keep doing what you are doing….i hate waiting more.

  2. I had that theory about Link’s name. I mean every game you play with the same kind of caracter, but it’s not same from the previous games (except one or two games on the series like Oot and MM). Also, you can name the caracter whatever you like, which means you’re putting your own will on him and he’s the reflection of that. He’s not just the ”link” for the timeline history, he is the ”Link” between you and that fantasy world. =)

  3. Thats so cool. So simple. You know when they asked andy warhol why he printed the soup can he said cause thats what he ate everyday. Maybe not the best anaology but it’s still brilliant.

I think it’s sad that whoever wrote this didn’t think F. Scott Fitzgerald was famous enough by name to say “F. Scott Fitzgerald’s wife, Zelda Fitzgerald.” The man only wrote the fucking Great Gatzby after all. Jesus christ, what do they teach you little retards in school nowadays anyways.

    1. I always name him Link. I don’t really care about the whole giving him my name thing. I honestly wish Nintendo would do away with that.

I think Nintendo Power even did a poll on it once, and at least 65%-70% said they name him Link, maybe even higher.

I think Midna really just comes from the word “midnight”. Not much beyond that.

      1. I’ve always namesd him link too. I always felt like it would ruin the “fantasy” if i gave him anything other name..lol

  5. Only the Impa bit is new to me. But I also thought that he named Link because he is the Link between the player and the game world.

  6. GIRIRHAHM IS EQUVILENT TO PHI….PHI IS THE MASTER SWORDS ENERGY AND GIRIRHAHM IS THE DEMON KINGS SWORD ENERGY…

    DEMON KING IS GANNON

    GANNON IS BACK…

  7. Funny that, I happen to be studying one of F Scott Fitzgerald’s books and he dedicated it to Zelda. Never would have guessed that they got the name from her…
