Zelda Producer Says He’s Always Trying To Impress Miyamoto

Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has told Develop Online that he’s always looking for ways to impress legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto and that’s one of the reasons why he’s so motivated to make the Zelda franchise as good as possible.

And how do you keep yourself and those staff creatively motivated and enthusiastic when the Zelda series has been around for so long?
My staff really are driven and kept motivated by the idea of seeing the players enjoy their creations. That is what I try and make them strive for and that is why they invest part of their life over many years into these games.

In my case, for me it is about impressing Mr Miyamoto; that’s the big one and that’s what keeps me motivated.

    1. He thinks Aonuma is a great mind capable of take the responsability to change and keep fresh his creation. They’re work together for a long time now. since ocarina of time, and it was Mr. Miya who asked him to join the team. I think the sad part of this, is that Miyamoto takes the credits for every Zelda game made. Ok he is the ”creator”, but the game, now, is only supervisioned by him.

        1. What I’m saying, up there, is about Zelda, people should be well informed that Shigero Miyamotto is not the one who develops every idea of the game, not anymore.

        1. course, after all he is an artist. He can’t arrive at home, take off his ”artist’s jacket” and say: “I just finished my work”. Artists are minds that think about what’s next all the time and make associations with their job in every single thing they see.

      1. Erm, he doesn’t take credit for everything though. Everyone praises him for the franchise in general since it does make sense seeing as he’s had the largest impact on it, but for the games individually the Aonuma is in charge of, he gets just as much credit.

Well, from what I’ve seen. I don’t see people running around being all “miyamoto,u did such a good job on twilit princesz, 5/5!!11”

        1. I agree, he has to take more credits, after all he IS the creator.
But, I always see people talking as if it was ALL his job. Maybe it’s not a general case, as I thought. =)

  1. Isn’t it pretty amazing how what impresses Miyamoto is still what impresses the rest of us? Here’s to hoping that he doesn’t become irrelevant anytime soon. (Though if Wii U’s internet capability still falls short… That’s GG…)

  2. The Troll Who Owns A 3DS

Eiji: ok so for Skyward Sword we’ve got these cool monster hunter-esque graphics and traditional controls since we’re trying to appeal to the hardcore gamers with this.
    Miyamoto: no.

    1. Each game is unique!

It’s not comparing a COD game With a COD game.

      Zelda is always diffrent.

Compare Twilight Princess with OC of time… there not the same at all, they both have different styles and plots and different chronology

  3. i wonder what things will be like for nintendo years from now when reggie, aonuma, iwata, and miyamoto are long gone, what will the next top dogs of nintendo be like

  6. I understand that, and I don’t envy Aonuma. Trying to impress the legendary Miyamoto must not be easy. He seems to be doing a good job though.
