Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime claims that he is unfazed by the dazzling graphics of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. He firmly believes that consumers don’t buy hardware because it looks good and it’s new. Instead he believes they buy hardware due to the experience they offer. Reggie has previously said that he isn’t impressed with the launch lineup of the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4.
“I don’t think consumers buy hardware just because it’s sexy and new. I think consumers buy hardware because of the experiences they can have on them. That’s why, for us, having a strong holiday line-up is so critically important.”
“Systems that generate pretty pictures by themselves aren’t selling propositions, and all you need to do is look at the last generation to see the evidence. And that’s true whether you look at the home console space or the handheld space. It’s not about the graphics by itself. It’s about the entire experience.”

N64 was the worst launch line up, then 32x, Atari Jaguar, then PS1. Wii U had an ok launch line-up, no worse the PS3 or Xbox 360. Actually it was pretty on par with the SNES launch.
Usually launches aren’t good predictors of a system. I remember the Dreamcast having a really good launch line-up.
PS4 and Xbox One will do what Wii U did. Sell out a launch then only get a few sales here and there till 2014, cause no good games for those systems come out till next year. Halo 5 for Xbox One, and Destiny which is a Multiplat for PS4. Other then Destiny there is not a single thing that I give a damn about on PS4.

Umm the Xbox One has an $500 price tag plus uncertainties and controversy surrounding it and the PS4 has a shitty launch lineup with no 1st party must-haves & 3rd party multiplats that are or will be available on current gen consoles and PC. Yeah well we’ll see how they fare against another next-gen console that will have an innovative new controller, that will be a $100 to $200 cheaper and with Wind Waker HD bundled in. Regardless of what consumers want, there a a lot of developers that prefer to develop for machines with higher graphical capabilities. I’m convinced we’ll miss out on GTAs, Assassins Creeds and the like because the Wii U will be a tad underpowered in the coming generation.
Not terribly fussed, I’d still take a Metroid or Zelda over anything any other machine will ever offer, but would be nice to have everything.

To all the people clamoring the PS4 has a bunch of pre-orders: You really either don’t know or don’t remember how many pre-orders the Wii U supposedly had. GameStop sold out in under a day I believe. Then it turned out, people pre-ordered from GameStop, but bought it elsewhere. People were thinking Wii U was going to sell a ton, and then didn’t.

Just to as a point, the music portion really is important for any game. Try playing your game one time on mute and realize its not as epic as before. Shitty music can also do the same thing. And having the same music can get really stale in my opinion.

Having the same music on tittles and remixing quite impressive on DKCR. I love the music in the underwater level from DKC and DKR water stages. And also, there were new songs on DKCR as well as classics. Made it seem more jungle like. So as for music being the same on Nintendo you fail. Hell even Mario Galaxy had but one classic song. Zelda has both classics and new songs. Also WWHD in front of the DUKA tree, it better have that same song with no changes.
Pikmin 1 – 3 have different songs. Not all star fox songs are the same neither. And did Resident evil and GTV even have songs? Unless you get in someone’s car.

In the end, however, Nintendo’s efforts at backing their systems came through for them, not the consoles’ power, thus proving again that graphical power is largely irrelevant to a console’s success.

The real question isn’t how Wii u will be when PS4 launches but how Will PS4 do when PS3 is getting same new engines and new tittles? PS3 is finally making a profit, as a CEO how will the PS4 maintain that Profit? I’m not worried about the Wii U. I’m worried about the P$3 and PS4 bumping heads for same engines and same games. I can tell you the differance between Pikmin 1 and 3. Other than new Pikmin characters and better graphics, I need to collect fruit to survive . The map is not just a map but It’s better, I can use it to finger out what to do and strategies on trying to beat my record or others record in mission mode. I can easily replay and go back days anytime I want. Oh I forgot the graphics are better. Now what’s totally different between Mortal Combat and Soul Caliber? Yet I can tell you the difference between Super Smash Bros’ and your average fighting game.
I’m not impress by the PS4 and the lineup. I’m going to buy it in 5-6 years near end of his life cycle only to do big games I missed .. the games I cant get on Wii U. The X-Box Done dont even exist for me.

All three consoles will have equally awesome games to play, just two will have better tech…and one will be left behind. All 3 will have done favorably by the end of this generation, especially since Sony did very well hyping up the PS4 and providing awesome games, and Microsoft reversed every bad policy(still though…if Halo 5 requires cloud connection to run, then Fuck you Xbox, it was a good run), and Nintendo is finally bringing out the games. I don’t think this coming generation will be anywhere nea as epic as this last(nostalgia alreadyDX. ), but I’m sure every console will provide us with amazing experiences and adventures that we will cherish and remember for all of our gaming years to come.

Being a pc gamer, I was totally unimpressed with the graphics of ps4 and xbone could muster.
Graphics of yesteryears, and I’m not even that much of a graphics whore.
Anyone who claims those toy PC’s are on par with high end gaming PC’s is either biased, or retarded.

I both agree and disagree with him. I think that many of the next-gen games that’s been shown so far looks gorgeous, and it can only get better. But, and this is important, graphics can only get you so far.

We haven’t seen any actual Xbox One gameplay. Everything we have seen so far was off PC…As for PS4 to be honest IMO Killzone Shadow Fall (Graphically) looked the same as PS3…It will take a few years like always for a console to get its best graphics out there. As of now, both systems have the same graphics as the Wii U. Maybe SLIGHTY better then Wii U but its not noticeable.
Killzone Shadow Fall runs at 720p, struggling to reach 30 fps, with drops constantly. This has been proved already. Most PS4 games are running at 720fps, They were running the games on PCs at the conference.
We’re reaching the point where, for visuals, the artists matter a lot more than the console’s capabilities. Extra power isn’t working the wonders for visuals and gameplay that it used to. Nowadays, it helps with smaller technical things, such as better animations and FX, faster load times, increased draw distance, and larger games (although that has more to do with the memory on the discs, and even then, the limit is rarely approached).
I buy games for the gameplay. Graphics are nice and a beautiful presentation can be a nice bonus, but it should not be the only thing to worry about when playing a game. I can tolerate decent graphics as long as the gameplay is fun. I am saying this for all systems.

Why say “we’re not about power, we’re about the games” when the PS4 is getting much more/ better games plus is powerful?

Metroid will happen. Nintendo said about a month ago that they were thinking up ideas for a new Metroid. The gamepad is made for it. I can’t see Nintendo not doing it!
It’s true. A console can have the best graphics the world has ever seen. But without good games and innovative, unique gameplay, what’s the point?
Great point Reggie. While nice graphics are always appreciated, I don’t buy games to admire their beauty. I buy games for the gaming experience! Gaming experience is ALWAYS my number 1 priority!
Twilight Princess is a much better game than Ico and SoTC combined. It’s one of the best paced action adventure games ever made. It has over 40 hours of gameplay and there’s rarely ever a dull moment. It’s just objectively a masterpiece all-round and can’t be argued otherwise.

I agree. I would have been absolutely fine if Nintendo went with SD again for Wii U. Although HD is pretty, it does not make a good game. Unless it’s E.T. You could never tell what you were supposed to do in that game.
I’d buy a Nintendo over PS or XB… if… if they’d make more local coop games. Seriously. More coop!!!
