Need For Speed: Rivals executive producer Marcus Nilsson has explained why the impressive racing game is skipping Nintendo’s latest home console, Wii U. Nilsson firmly believes that a Wii U version of the popular racer wouldn’t secure a reasonable investment for the company and therefore he doesn’t think that it’s worth bringing it to the console.
“From an EA perspective, we look at different console strategies and different platforms and what makes sense for return of investment, what makes sense from tech development and also what do people want to work on. In this particular case, for Rivals at least, Wii U is not one of the platforms.”

Has it ever occurred to you that the government (Bill Clinton) signed legislation forcing banks to loosen standards to put more people into homes, and because it wasn’t a fixed interest rate, they couldn’t afford them anymore, when rates went up? That some people buy homes larger than they need and get a pay cut or lose a job and cannot afford it, or their $40,000 debts on credit cards from buying crap they don’t need? I heard the same thing when 3rd parties were skipping the Wii U and only developing for the Playsation, but unlike the others, I didn’t give up hopes. Result: I got to play the best games of that generation, with true masterpieces such as Ocarina of Time and etc.developed by Nintendo and Rare. :)
I hope this generation will be the same, I hope Nintendo can still put masterpieces out there regardless of the support for the console. It will be worth it!

Well I guess you’re right. I do apologize if I sound so negative all the time, but you have to admit it is annoying that a lot of good games are skipping the Wii U. It frustrates me that the Developers won’t take the time and at least give the Wii U to chance. Even at that Nintendo has been disappointing me this year.
The only games that I’m REALLY excited is Mario Kart 8, Smash bros, the next Zelda game, and Moniloft X. Mario Kart is starting to show its sign of aging. Smash Bros, they seem to be cutting a lot of characters, and there’s no story.
I really REALLY hope things can turn out for the better in the upcoming months. However, they Need to pick up the pace. We can’t have one quality game in 9 months at a time.

I stuck by Nintendo since I started gaming. It saddens me to see that Nintendo I used to know and grow up with is now some company who cares about kids.
Nintendo always cared about kids, that is how they turned you into a fan right? Nintendo tries to aim for all the audiences, but they are seen as a kiddy company because their products are popular with children.

Don’t worry, they didn’t forget about us. Smash Bros, Zelda and Mario kart are coming! And hopefully somewhere along the way they show us a new Metroid, Starfox or maybe even F-Zero!!

This is the first year of the Wii U. There’s many more years for Nintendo to make plenty of great games. I just have to stay patient, even if I don’t like to, but you can’t rush perfection! :D
games like nfs, gears of war, asscreed and so on are aimed at teens and twens…if you turn 30 you’ll realise that these are actually the real kids games and you will be able to fully enjoy nintendo games again. they aint kids games, they really are timeless games for everybody.
Very good point. They got a lot of people to buy the Wii, and figured that everyone would carry over to the Wii U. Big mistake I believe, because most of these people weren’t gamers. Old people even got into it. These people don’t really care about video games. The Wii U should have had a different name, and Nintendo shouldn’t have pinned their hopes on said nongamers. But as much as I am frustrated with Nintendo, I do have faith they will turn it around eventually. I am waiting for most of those games you mentioned, aside from Metroid (never played it), and can’t wait for the game drought to end.

I thought NFSMW looked fantastic on the WiiU, well, I better hang on to it, because it’s part of the first and last wave of 3rd party support I’m going to get. Yeah. Now all I get is one fucking platformer after another. Maybe they are good, but when that’s ALL YOU GET, I get sick of them, even the good ones. That’s how I got burnt out on Mario. I’m not an EA fan either, but I really liked the Need for Speed they gave us, enough that I would have bought this one also.
I honestly didn’t like it for the simple fact that it didn’t have local two player. I got it during Target’s buy two get one free sale, because the box says two player. Little did I know that the idiots (whether it was EA or Nintendo I’m not sure) consider two player to be one person changing the traffic and stupid shit like that. Like Mario Galaxy’s “two player.” I was so mad I traded it in, because I wanted something that is local multiplayer that my girlfriend would play (she doesn’t like too many games). I used to love the old Need for Speed games, especially the original Hot Pursuit. But I made it profit on it since I got the game for free, so I can’t complain haha. But as much as I don’t like EA, I do feel for people like you who do want some of their games on the Wii U.

Personally, I’m tired of the gimmicks. I like 3D gaming, I like the GamePad, but for once, I want to see Nintendo go all out. If the GamePad really costs $100, their machines only costs $150 to make. Imagine if it had an extra $100 for power. Power isn’t that important, but lots of people didn’t want to spend $350 on an underpowered “current gen” console. So that meant no install base. That meant no third-party devs, that meant no games.
Nintendo also didn’t support their crappy Pro controller >.> Crappy because it’s not ideal and I wouldn’t shell out $50 for it. What was the 360 controller’s only flaw? It’s D-Pad. Who owns that patent? Nintendo. Nintendo could’ve and should’ve focused on the Pro controller more and made it the best controller out there.
I personally hate playing games like cod or any other first person game using the stick. I have grown up with pc so I guess that’s why. I really do like the wii more for aiming which I feel gives a more “realistic” feel to aiming in first person games. And I love all the possibilities that it offers.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. I love the Wiimote too! But for certain games, it just is terrible. And the Nunchuk extension is fine for some games, but for others it just gets annoying. For some I just wanted to have one controller in my hands or be able to play with just one hand. Classic Controller/Pro had to attach to the Wiimote as well :/

I think nintendo has given us too much to choose from. Now if they don’t make sure all their controllers are available to the gamers they will suffer. Take epic Mickey 2 for example. The first one used the wii mote perfectly and then they don’t support it in the wii u version when it is used in the wii version.
I loved playing with the nunchuck on nsmbw and then they take it away in nsmbu.

See now that is wrong. Wii U is next gen. Take a look at Neo Assault Nano. Those graphics might be animated, but the qaulity of them is very impressive. Xbox 360 and PS3 wouldn’t be able to pull of that kind of game, and that was using only one of Wii U’s PowerPC cores. times that by 3 and imagine what the result could be.

And the devs say it’s underpowered, which is true. Compared to the PS4/XB1, it’s not as powerful. Most people don’t want to buy a machine that others speculate won’t be able to run those “next gen” games that need all that processing power. I’m just saying how it went, I’m not saying whether they were right or not.

It was actually good. Maybe you just suck at motion control steering but it has other control options. All Mario Kart titles have been okay.
No, it sucked. I used the Wii Mote. It’s not the controls I don’t like. It’s the constant abuse of someone who is in first place. You shouldn’t be punished for being too good. I had way too many matches where I would lose because anytime I got into first place, I got hit with spike shell. I literally had matches where I got hit 5 or 6 times with it. You are rewarded for being in the lower spots. And the online was terrible. So many cheaters. So no, I don’t suck. The game sucks.

Yeah, Ubisoft did sort of try….They just have to keep it going. Some examples: AC liberation HD is not on WiiU, so basically no AC fanbase will grow. EA treats Nintendo consoles and fans like shit -> no fanbase. Capcom, no street fighter on Nintendo consoles -> built-up fanbase destroyed.
Most of the time they dont really try, but the console is an investment THEY have to make, THEY are responsible for their success.
Of course, I also think Nintendo could do a better job, but I’ll just say this: their indie approach=fantastic, their third party aproach=should be like their indie approach.

As a matter of fact why is any 3rd party going to bother making games for the Wii U. Babies only buy Mario and Pokeomon games. When anyone complains about the lack of 3rd party support the babies tell them “everybody knows that nobody buys a Nintendo console for 3rd parties”. So if this is the mentality of them, why is any 3rd party developer going to bother making games for the Wii U.

I have always loved nintendo. I recently bought the wii u and to tell you the truth it’s amazing. However the reason that it took such long time for me to investigate in the console was that I saw it just as a new gadget from them. I really liked the wii motes cuz it was something new and it preformed really well.
I love Nintendo games and that’s the reason I buy their console. To have the chance to play 3rd party games is just a bonus to me. If they don’t make it for the wii u then I’m not buying it on any other console either. Nintendo has everything that is needed. So. Their loss really.
Don’t even try to explain why it’s not coming to the Wii u. It only make you look more lazy 3rd party developers.

At this point I’m more distressed about how much bad rep people are getting/how many trolls and such are taking the chance to talk shit about Nintendo. I’ve been a Nintendo fan for ages and I can more or less point out every major flaw with Nintendo’s Wii U marketing/sales but if I had to boil it down to two things:
– Casual gamers/normal people don’t know what a Wii U is
– The list of not only games, but more specifically “system sellers” are small
Well, I’m officially not a Nintendo fan because I’m criticizing them, so scratch that (?) but regardless, we have to remember companies are all businesses and they only try to do what makes them money, for the most part.
Nintendo wanted to release the Wii U WAY ahead of the PS4 and Xbox One probably because they know they’re a gaming company and little else and they’d much rather get the system out, attract some people, and get a sort of “head start” on the other systems. People can buy Xbox systems to play DVDs and watch TV and similar things with PS systems (my brother bought a PS3 just for the Blu-ray player and after that buying actual games isn’t much more).
This was an okay idea but they didn’t hype up the launch at all. Instead, people STILL don’t know of the Wii U or acknowledge its existence as the first 8th generation console–they made a mistake on ABC or something calling the Wii U a “Wii”. I went into GameStop today to pick up KH HD 1.5 Remix (now I’m definitely not a Nintendo fan for supporting Sony, even though I bought Pikmin 3 in the same purchase…) and when I said I planned on pre-ordering multi-platform games like Watch_Dogs on the Wii U, I was more or less mocked–by GameStop people! They also told me that people constantly confused the Wii with the Wii U, trying to buy a Wii U game and having to have it explained as a game for a different system, or buying a new Wii U instead of a Wii (I actually have a friend whose Dad did this so I totally believe it–when it comes to buying things for kids it’s not out of the picture to be making mistakes like these).
Moving on, we have some great titles but without a super enjoyable, relatively long exclusive game, systems won’t sell. Pikmin 3 is good and it helped a bit but the game is sort of hard for some people to catch-on–I know I didn’t grow up with Pikmin and if I hadn’t played Nintendo Land and seen some video clips I’d probably have little to no idea about what it’s actually like. They needed to have the next Smash announced much earlier and games like X (the “new Xenoblade Chronicles”, if you will) and SMT x FE have SO little information that people often forget to include it in their lists of upcoming Wii U games. These games should be out no later than the end of this year and the games that are all coming out over the next two months (Wonderful 101, LoZ WW HD, etc.) should already have been out. They were slow to make the adjustment to HD and people grew impatient and now we have all this Nintendo hate-it’s almost like their plan of releasing the system early backfired because while they did sell a few million consoles or whatever, they also have AWFUL rep right now that’s skewing the reality of their situation.
And that’s where I come in. I absolutely HATE seeing all this crap about Nintendo, especially when people say things like “Nintendo should become 3rd party” or “Nintendo is dying”. Nintendo has series that simply don’t have any equal and can’t be replaced. They’re HUGE. They’ve got coffers filled with gold as well. They can bounce back. They just need to make some PERFECT decisions here. If they sell systems thanks to this LoZ bundle–which they WILL, I promise you–they will attract people. The indie scene is looking better for the Wii U as well. Companies are still maintaining bonds through the 3DS, which is selling better. A lot of people LOVE Nintendo or have a history of working with them, but again, it’s a business. I haven’t played a Need for Speed game in ages but it still pains me to see announcements like these… even so I can hardly blame them; if I were an EP I’d probably make the same choice because one can’t let personal feelings get in the way of a business.
What we need to do now is drop the hate, watch as the Wii U scene improves, and anyone who wants to ever play a new Nintendo game needs to pick up a Wii U and start playing games, at least until the Xbox One or PS4 come, but I’m sure if you have one by then there will be awesome games only for the Wii U that will come out as well. If you’re worried about the controller, pick up a classic one–and keep your old Wii stuff. The Wii U is the only 8th gen system where you don’t have to buy everything new. You have an entire library of Wii games to catch up on and your Wiimotes will still function as well. There are too many Nintendo games without equal for it to die out. Nintendo just needs to focus on getting those out instead of making a bajillion Mario games instead (no offense to Mario games and I actually am excited for Super Mario 3D World because it has potential to boost system sales but what about all the other major Nintendo franchises like Starfox, F-Zero, Metroid, Fire Emblem, maybe even Kid Icarus and Kirby).
3rd-party developers work for a business and going back to what I said, they will come back once the Wii U sells. For the same reasons they’re turning they’re back, they’ll come back. I actually love the idea of petitioning because it’s a lot easier to nudge companies to do things, you just need to show strong support in #’s. Right now even if we asked companies like Ubisoft and EA to support the Wii U they wouldn’t because there aren’t enough people who actually have the system and play it to sign a petition or create some sort of major public reaction.
Okay, this was all just to make myself feel better because seeing all the debbie downers comment on the Wii U, along with the pure straight truth of things (the system is not doing well), was really depressing me as a Nintendo fan. More than anything else, I’m only trying to convince myself that there is hope and in the mean time, I’m buying their products, especially their Wii U ones, because I don’t have the right to criticize them from the sidelines, at least in my mind (I’m sure some people will say they DO have that right and w/e, if you live in the U.S. it’s a free country so do what you want lol).
tl;dr
– Nintendo needs to start a major advertising campaign for the Wii U so people actually learn what it is. And this needs to happen like, yesterday. Or 6 months ago. Or at launch, but that’s asking for too much, lol. You would be surprised what simplying making people aware of the system can do. It is difficult for parents to sate their little kids wanting the next Nintendo system besides buying it but if the kids don’t know about the Wii U either, that’s an issue, lol. As for older audiences, all you need for that is to attract them with awesome trailers for good games. Not that hard.
– The Wii U is not as bad as it seems. It is NOT a weakness of the system that is making it sell bad. It’s marketing and a lack of solid games. I haven’t met anyone who has a Wii U that doesn’t like it. They just say they haven’t used it in X amount of time or whatever.
– I’m writing this huge essay because I’m tired of the hate and while I know this won’t do anything to quell it, I’m just getting out some of my own angst, because I hate to see so much bad stuff on the Wii U.
– Nintendo, up your ****ing game and show all these haters and other companies who’s boss. I can’t wait for that to happen. I love Sony as well as a lot of 3rd-party developers but I feel like people are always first to jump on the hatewagon for Nintendo and anything to shut them up and secure Nintendo as a major part of the gaming industry, as it always has been, will seriously give me some much needed relief. In the end, I just want to play my damn games and have a fun time. Right now I feel like Nintendo’s being bullied by other companies, being excluded by some of them, and I’m that awkward kid who’s trying to help the victim, then complain about how bullying is a problem.

Fire Emblem was announced bro, and give them time, Metroid will surely come, i believe Star Fox too, they have also invested to resurrect old franchises, and Miyamoto is working on a new franchise. It’s just time what they need, till december Wii U will boost their sales heavily with the new incoming titles, I’m not a Fanboy, i just speak with facts, there are a lot of first party games coming in the next months. Do you think Mario Kart, Super Mario 3d World, Donkey Kong TF, Wind Waker HD, Super Smash Bros U (i’m not even mentioning all the upcoming games, just count this ones) wont boost up Wii U sales? if they’ve sold more than 4 million consoles with barely any game, what do you think what will happen when those titles come up?. Facts speak for themselves.
Also, about 3rd party support, well, they’ve almost never supported Nintendo in their whole history, just because Nintendo is a console that sells because of the first party titles, they’ve always kept themselves afloat with their own games. It is uncertain if we will really have 3rd party support or not. What is certain is that it’s going to sell a lot.
The only reason why i bought a Wii U was because i’m a Zelda fan, and the Wii U untitled upcoming zelda is going to be the most huge zelda ever, do some research about the money Nintendo is investing, coming to be the most expensive game in the history of Nintendo. I live in Venezuela i appology if my english is not that good, i bought a Wii U just for Zelda.
In the last generation I got a Wii and an Xbox 360 1 year after, and that was the biggest mistake I could have made, all the games i got they were all kind of boring to me, just played them 5 days, passed them and then never again, adding that my Xbox got 3 red lights 2 years after purchase, and since I’m not in the US there was nothing i could do, it was so shitty that the games i cant even sell them here, cuz they dont worth nothing, Nintendo 64 games sell for twice the price. Nintendo has been always loyal to me, giving quality systems and quality games.
And for 3rd party games i’m just upgrading my pc. That’s the best combination of things you can do: Wii U + PC.

I’m definitely up there with others believing that other third-parties just simply don’t believe in the Wii U’s potential. It’s a shame too because it seems only smaller independent studios who need Kickstarters to get their games on the Wii U’s eShop service are some of the only ones really attempting to support the Wii U right now.
