Game Consultant Says Nintendo Is Making It Easy For Sony To Capture Some Market Share

Tokyo-based games consultant Serkan Toto thinks that Sony’s PlayStation 4 will enable the company to capture some of the marketshare that Nintendo has so far failed to capture with its Wii U console. However, he doesn’t think that it’s likely that Sony will be able to get those casual consumers that purchased a Wii back in 2006 as he believes they have flocked to mobile and tablet based gaming.

“Calling it a “dream situation” for Sony, Tokyo-based games consultant Serkan Toto believes that the company will dominate the Japanese market this generation. But it’s unlikely that Sony will be able to convince all of the customers that sent Nintendo to the top with the Wii yet failed to return for the Wii U. The Wii’s stratospheric sales were largely because of casual games and non-traditional software that appealed to the same demographic most likely to have switched to mobile devices.”

“As such, Toto says, it “isn’t unrealistic” to imagine that the overall console market will shrink in size, even if the PS4 outsells the PS3. Still, there’s an opportunity for Sony to make up some ground. “I think that Sony will be able to capture some of the market that Nintendo isn’t able to serve with the Wii U, but it will certainly be not all of it,” says Toto. “But Nintendo is making it as easy for Sony as ever to capture some market share.”

    1. Okay guys.I know I’ve commented about this video before but can you guys please watch it. I think all Nintendo fans should. Thank you and have a nice day.

      1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

        The N-Dub Nation failed…

Now it’s the time for our empire’s elite swarms to counter the threat from the Sonyan invasion and the lurking presense of the Xbots…

      2. I really don’t want cycles spent on notification. The online is better than wii. Seriously….

The standard is playing great games.

I think nintendo should make a party chat as an app. Your friend notification as an app.

I guess the problem is those are not the reasons I buy nintendo systems. I don’t even use all of that crap on the ps3. I stay away from the xbone because that is all it pretty much does is useless crap. It’s bad enough I have to read your comments so why do I want to hear your voice. I game for the games nothing else. I may not be getting a ps4 because of the extra crap that I don’t need.

    2. Well I don’t think soo, I changed from ps3 to wii U ;) and from psp to 3ds. I didn’t new how amazing Nintendo was and now I know the difference between ps and Nintendo and I say nintendo is just not comparable with any one trying to make real video games. I mean nintendo games are not just video games they are some extraordinary art going on there that makes their games fabulous.

    3. it “isn’t unrealistic” to imagine that the overall console market will shrink in size
Can someone tell him that it is already happening… since 2010. Every year the console market shrink a little and it wont be different this year

  1. Well it is true. Nintendo’s executives keep shooting themselves in the foot and to behonest, I might have also thought I could have road along with the Wii’s past popularity.

Lets hope they can at least keep up and learn this generation so their next console will probably be one of their best.

I still love my Wii U tho

    1. Who wouldn’t? If I made a console that sold 100 mil units, I would sure as hell continue the formula. They got caught in the $$$ as any human would.

      1. The flaw with that is they didn’t really support it that much since the games they sold just kept selling. I don’t remember much excitement for the console a few years after the launch.

They should have kept evolving and made it at least HD so they knew what they’ were doing

        1. The last years of the Wii were very dry. I think there were only 4 titles released in 2012, or something like that. Yeah, the Wii should have been hd so that they wouldn’t be in this mess right now. They’re always 1 step back. E.g. The move from carts to cds, online, hd. Hopefully they learned their lesson.

    1. Wow are you really that stupid to believe an article written by the same mind who also wrote “If all games were like Flappy Bird, the gaming industry would be saved”?

Aelous, or should I say iceazema, you have redefined stupidity

  2. Oh iceazeama
When he is not obsessing over Nintendo which he hates or making long rants against it´s fanbase he is surfing the net looking for negative news to post on a Nintendo news site.

Who would not like to meet the guy in person, his life must be so interesting.

  3. well they DO NEED A NEW MARKETING TEAM ESPECIALLY A WESTERN ONE apart from that try to match the power of the other consoles even though half of the other ones cant even make 1080p and 60fps games with no frame drops.

and as aunouma wants……..have Nintendo release games quicker.
hopefully next gen they learn that though the wii u will NO DOUBT stay second.

  4. Understandable. Sony is a great competition to Nintendo. Kinda don’t want xbone and their awful practices competing against Nintendo. xp
Plus I read Sony listening their fans, but if only Sony can survive longer.

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Sony is like the opposite with their people compared to our great empire…

High Command barely listens to us while the Sonyan Leaders listens far too much to the point where they cannot be original in anything…

  6. In general japan is unusual market. They tend to buy only a few things all the time. RPGS, puzzle games, stuff like monster hunter, rhythm, fighters, and life sims. Its really not easy for sony or nintendo to have grasp of japan, fully. Nintendo offters, animal crossing pokemon, rhythm games, and some other stuff. Sony should focus more on the vita in japan since it has a stronger chance in market. The ps4 will sell but not in large amounts. the psp, out sold the wii and ps3 in japan, and ds had the most. There is a lot more handheld focus in japan. 3DS has the strongest hold of japan due to it offering tons of games that grab japanese gamers. Nintendo needs to have more focus titles on the wii u so it offers more for americans. Metroid, F zero, Star Fox, Zelda, Punch Out and few others grab the states.

      1. they have games that appeal in small amounts, really animal crossing and pokemon grab the most attention its really confusing to talk about

  7. Should I care what this guy has to say? Obviously the Wii U is a disaster sales-wise…. I didn’t buy a Wii U so Nintendo could get richer, I got it to play the Nintendo exclusives and that’s what I’m doing.

I don’t care about anything other than Nintendo IP’S.

    1. Same. Every time I try to play a third-party game, I’m just not feeling it. I started Assassin’s Creed III, and it seems interesting. However……I’m once again just not “feeling it”.

  8. When Nintendo is THAT stupid and doesnt have MGS, FF, KH, Yakuza or mainline Mousou on their console…..Well, at least they have Monster Hunter….and I guess their own IPs are pretty popular in Japan….but still, Sony pretty much has EXCLUSIVITY to those 5 (!) huge franchises in Japan, as Ninty cant be bothered to get them and as the xbox brand is dead in Japan. Sony doesnt even have to do anything….

  9. “Thanks, Iceazeama”

Posted an article coming from a troll that always talked shit out of his ass without making any sense?

Not taking this crap post seriously.

  10. Sony has all of the market share, except for the people that couldn’t get PS4 so they bought Xbones, Nintendo has given the entire market away, the Wii U is a complete and utter failure…
