Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has told Polygon that the team have a specific Wii U game in the works, but won’t reveal it until Nintendo sells more Wii U consoles to consumers. Guillemot wouldn’t reveal what the unannounced title is, but said if Nintendo shifts more Wii U consoles to consumers then we may finally see it.
“We did adapt the number of products to the level of quantities that the machine did. So we will have Just Dance again which is well suited for the machine. We’ll have Watch Dogs. We have another couple of products that we are waiting to launch, specifically we have one game that we wait for the machine to be more mass market to launch. We don’t have a number. We need the sales to increase so it becomes more and more mass market then we will have the volume that will justify massive marketing and TV marketing. We have a game that has been done for six months. It’s on the shelf, waiting for more families to have the console.”
“It could never come out. It could come out on another format… I think we have to wait for Smash Bros. to come. Smash Bros has always been a big, big property for Nintendo and for gamers. And we all know that there are lots of Nintendo fans that are waiting for big games to come. We know they are coming. We don’t know if they will still be there. I think when I speak with the fans that come to E3 90 percent of them are crazy Nintendo fans. They really love Nintendo and the games they do.”
“I think ZombiU was so adapted to the Wii U so (bringing it to another platform) would be difficult to do. Maybe it will come to other platforms, but not as a full game. It was really developed for that type of machine. Nintendo is really coming up with fantastic games. They could, with the right price and very good games, help the machine start selling.”

think about it this way- maybe the game started being developed when the wiiu first came out. ubisoft thought the wiiu would sell big and they would have an easy time marketing the game. that wasn’t the case so now ubi is shelfing the game until they are sure they can turn a profit on it. patience isn’t a bad thing when it comes to business, and the profit to be gained from an already developed game will go up as the wiiu sells more. maybe the will release it this holiday season after all of nintendo’s big games come out this august-october, after the wiiu sells more and they won’t have to compete with all the first party nintendo games.
This is such a dumb approach to business. Why would they waste time and money developing something that may never come out or would have to be ported to another platform, which itself costs time and money (and ports never run quite as smooth).
Plus greater console sales is directly linked to the number of high profile games available. Maybe if you revealed this game it would encourage people to buy a Wii U, you dolts.

Time frame means nothing. Wii U could have released the same time as PS4 and Xbox One it would be in the same situation, hell without that year drought it would have a better reputation. But yes Wii U is ahead of Xbox One, thing with Xbox One is, it has reached it’s peak. USA and UK is its market it sells poorly everywhere else. Wii U sells well in Japan, Canada, and decently everywhere else.

I don’t know if such a title would help Nintendo at all – some exclusives certainly would, a quite amount of AAA titles maybe but if it’s “only good”, they would need A LOT of these titles. And I think that this one is not something extraordinary…

How are they suppose to sell more systems without games? I applaud them for helping the system wen it first launched showing confidence, but now they’re acting like other developers. “We are not gonna make games for the system until Nintendo makes games to sell the system” everybody wants to just wait till Nintendo builds the system up and then they will come and say stuff like “we always had faith in Nintendo, we support them 100 %”. Regardless of my above comments, I enjoy their games and hope they will get the sales they want, zombi U is one of my favorite Wii U games.

Sounds like that rules out a ZombiU sequel (which already had little to no hope), Red Steel 3, & even a new Prince of Persia. The closest known franchise that would require “more families to have the console” & hasn’t been announced yet would be Rabbids.
Sheesh, I thought 3rd parties helped sell systems. Isn’t the lack of 3rd party support Wii U’s major flaw? Yet, since launch, 3rd parties barely knew how to handle Wii U, instead treating it like a triplet, & poorly @ that. Ubisoft actually understood, for a brief moment, then quickly became very squeamish when Wii U needed Rayman Legends the most.

They’ve already done enough harm to Wii U owners by delaying a finished game until the other consoles get it (Rayman Legends), giving us gimped ports of games (Assassins creed IV with no dlc and no coop in blacklist), and delaying watch dogs and possibly cancelling it for some dumb reason.

Okay… So at this point, this basicly mean all third party for Wii U is completely gone. With Platinum Games gone Xbox and Ubisoft pretty much stopping all support for the console, I can’t think of anyone who’d help the Wii U at this point. Nintendo need to make an amazing announcement tomorrow if they are to save the Wii U. It’s a disaster.

Platinum Games isn’t gone… they are allowed to make games (yes, even exclusives) for other companies. They are a third party studio after all.
I know this might be hard to understand, but when Platinum games is done making Scalebound for Xbox One, they might strike a deal with Nintendo and make another exclusive Nintendo game for the Wii U, 3DS or perhaps a new Nintendo console. It’s actually very possible given the fact that Hideki Kamiya has expressed his joy over working with Nintendo and his interest in bringing more of his games to their platforms.
Thanks Ubisoft, glad you didn’t give up on us: I hope it is a game we’ll truly enjoy.

People here really don’t get anything do they? Holding the game is smart of Ubisoft to do, because the Wii U doesn’t have enough consoles sold and it’s not like Wii U owners even buy 3rd party games anyway.
If they released it now, it would sell poorly and they want it to be successful.
But at the same time, they have already made the game and waste the resources in doing it. Now, how do you want to recover those resources and money? You cannot just leave the game in the shadows for doing so. You are loosing money in there, you cannot do this kind of practices. If everyone started to do like Ubisoft and wait until a console reaches a certain number of sold units, every game company would be in negative numbers. It is not a healthy form of producing videogames, and it neither helps WiiU to sell more consoles.
Okay, well Ubisoft is potentially GAINING a larger profit by waiting to release the game after Smash Bros’ release. Yes, sitting on the game right this second means no profit, but you can’t always think in the here and now. You have to think long term, which is what Ubisoft is doing.
They can sell it now and receive a low profit or sell it later and potentially receive a greater profit. Which sounds better to you from a business perspective NOT a Nintendo fanboy perspective?
Also, this is ONE game that Ubisoft is doing this with. Not every company is doing it and Ubisoft doesn’t do it all the time so there is no point worrying about “every company ending up in the negative numbers,” because it is not something that everyone will do.
Like the profit gained from Rayman? They shot themselves in the foot by delaying it and the Wii U version sold the most units.
Imagine what would have happened if they had released on time while Wii U owners were in a drought and were hungry for games.

it makes sense that they’d be hesitant. ubisoft usually does a good job in marketing their games and marketing aint cheap. in the film industry, marketing can be half the total cost of production! im sure it’s less for video games but still nothing to scoff at. if they felt it’d be a risky investment so far (which honestly it would have been), why not keep it on the shelf until the system has established itself?
Okay. But then why not keep their mouths shut about it instead of sounding like they’re blackmailing Nintendo & Wii U owners? & it’s a family game, no less. Ubisoft should announce the title & date w/ broad advertising because families aren’t exactly following gaming news. Most gather intel via ads & what’s on store-shelves. I thought 3rd parties had to do more w/ their products than just dev & let them sit.

I think a key point to take away from this is that Ubisoft is being completely honest here. They told us EXACTLY why they are not releasing anything special on Wii U and why they aren’t showing us a game that is already complete.
They aren’t lying to our faces, they are telling us fair and square what the deal is. Sometimes the truth is harsh… doesn’t mean Ubisoft needs to lie about it to make Nintendo fans feel better about it.

Let me paint a picture for you. Say there are about 7 million Wii U’s sold right now over the entire world. Say Ubisoft sells the game right now to the install base of 7 million. Say the game sells about 700,000 worldwide (because Ubisoft games don’t typically sell a crap ton on the Wii U).
Now, let us fast forward to the future. It is Spring 2015 fresh after a Smash Bros 4 Wii U release. The Wii U is booming, it’s sold 3 million consoles worldwide and Ubisoft decides to release the game they’ve been sitting on for a year. They release it to an install base of 10 million consoles. Now, bare with me on this part, but don’t you think a game released to 10 million consoles would sell more copies than one released to 7 million consoles?
So now, Ubisoft has sold 1 million copies of a game that previously would have just sold 700,000.
Now, I would really like to hear from you exactly how Ubisoft is losing money by sitting on this game…
That numbers game is just speculation, sure it is economically sound but the reality is this kind of talk only alienates the fans. Where do you think families get their advice from? Word of mouth mainly and the rest is from impulse.
What do many Nintendo fans think of ubisoft after stuff like this? Now ask them to recommend a game to a non gamer family.

tbh I did understand ubisoft decision to delay watch dog,not to release some games (i.e Assassin’s creed and far cry 4).But I did not understand the hole rayman issue, why tetris is not coming to Wii U knowing it was the gameboy which make this game a classic of all time and that statement.
I mean if you already have a game on the shelve why not releasing it, the hardware sell increasing at small rate for the wii U. And Also why not stating a target. It’s alright to say we want more hardware number but what is the target 20M or 150M.
