Nintendo Japan Releases A Brilliant Japanese TV Commercial For Splatoon And An Overview Video

From the sounds of it a lot of you had fun playing the Splatoon Globaltest Fire demo at the weekend. We’ve already seen the commercial that Nintendo of America is planning to run on television to promote the game, but what about Japan? Well to be honest they’ve got the better commercial in my opinion. Let’s hope it gets replicated in Europe. What do you think to the Japanese advert?

  1. I just saw one right now and IDK, I think it’s okay but it merely showed anything significant in terms of actual gameplay and no I’m not using a fucking Gamepad to play a shooter like that and if the game is forced on in a way, not buying on top of opting out VC which is more than needed for a game like this, even if it’s only for friends during gameplay.

      1. OF COURSE I PLAYED IT!! I PLAYED ALL THREE HOURS OF IT!! ITS THE BEST SHOOTER OF THIS GENERATION!! Also the bubbler is op, not the ink roller lol.

          1. There are people who want options you ass. I bet if it’s Ubisoft’s game, you would likely skip it because it’s “gimped” so cut the bullshit games because it’s Nintendo and that its okay for them to cut needed and OPTIONAL features just because they’re scared shitless to grow up and try to have social dominance with their pitiful Twitter Ripoff hindering our first amendment.

                1. That was your excuse i just filled in.
the game was fun as hell well the demo at least so i cant se the problem. sure it would be great with voice chat but the game is already fun enough the voice chat would just be a + from a game that to me already looks and plays awesome

            1. Again, did you play the demo? No? Then shut up. You won’t know how it is until you’ve actually played the game. I played all three hours of the demo, and it worked perfectly fine without a voice chat. The gameplay is too quick and hectic for voice chat to work well. You only have three minutes per match, and after the match ends, it switches who is on what team randomly, meaning you don’t have much time to build a rapport with the people who are on your team. It just wouldn’t work well. On top of that, voice chat would be another thing that would suck up your Internet’s bandwith. It’s already running silky smooth at 60fps and in HD without voice chat, but with voice chat, it may make things run slower.

Also, did I mention Ubisoft in any form? No. Do I even really play Ubisoft games? No, I don’t. I have no interest in their games. I never played Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, etc. because they don’t interest me at all, not because of Ubisoft “gimping” anything.

I’m not trying to give Nintendo a “free pass” for not having voice chat just because it’s Nintendo. I just truly don’t think voice chat would work well with Splatoon. I’m not going to act like a blind fanboy who praises every single thing Nintendo does. Nintendo has many faults and has made many mistakes that I hate, including Miiverse (which I think is garbage, in my opinion.).

              1. Did I say the game itself is shit or am I making a point of Nintendo holding back standard features over nonsense and the fans are being fucking hypocrites excusing them and bash third parties for the same level of bullshit?

                Open your fucking fanboy brain.

                1. I’m saying these “standard features” aren’t required by any extent, and the game actually works BETTER without them. Did you even read my points I made in the post above, or are you so brain-dead that you skipped over them? Since you haven’t played the game at all yet, you have not experienced the game without voice chat, and you currently do not know how well it functions without voice chat. This just goes back to “You didn’t play the demo? Then shut up.”

Since when did fans bash third parties over voice chat on third-party games on Nintendo consoles? I’ve seen them bash third-parties over bugs and glitches in third-party games (which is completely acceptable, imo), and i’ve seen them bash third-parties for not bringing games to the Wii U. I’ve seen them bash Nintendo over new IPs, and after Nintendo brings one out, they don’t buy it (Codename Steam). However, I have not seen anything on third-party voice chat, and i’ve been following Nintendo news sites for ages now.

Open your brain and think for a bit. That is, if you can.

                  1. Again, fucking excuses and hypocrisy of Nintendo fandorks. Please STFU with it and stop. It’s not working and I’m fucking embarrassed right now being a part of this fan club.

                    1. So you’re again ignoring my original points on why Splatoon is better without voice chat, and you are now trying to find a way to get out of an argument where you know you’re at a loss of rebuttals? This just makes your original argument and point look very weak, and now you seem like you’re just blindly insulting Nintendo fans just because you know you cannot come up with a counterargument.

By the way, if you’re really embarrassed by being a part of this “fan club,” then feel free to go and join a Sony or Microsoft “fan club.” I’m sure they’ll treat people like you better.

                      1. And if EVERY SINGLE REVIEWERS acknowledges the absence of voice chat for this game, I’m so gonna fucking laugh at all of you ridiculous damage controlling try hards until Nintendo next console flop happens.

              1. Every single reviewer? You mean just IGN, a website biased against Nintendo? If a website is going to say “a con of a game is that it has too much water,” you KNOW they’re not good a website. The majority of the people complaining have been fans who have not played the game yet, like you.

I’m laughing so hard at how ignorant your excuses are. If you read my points (which i’m sure you ignored again), you’d know WHY I think Splatoon works BETTER WITHOUT VOICE CHAT. I’m not defending Nintendo for no reason whatsoever; i’m defending the decision because the game works BETTER WITHOUT VOICE CHAT.

            1. Asswipe, I’m not bashing the game because of the game you fucking idiot. It’s because Nintendo wants to opt out a feature that’s definitely more than worth of putting in for a particular game like Splatoon at least for friends to keep communications quickly accessible and minimum of unwanted drama from idiots which I must remind you retards again: THERE IS A FUCKING MUTE OPTION FOR THAT!

              1. You set a perfect example here for why the game would be better without a voice chat. It’s people like you that invite the need for a mute button. Two words: social immaturity.

    1. How come this 6 min trailer showed way more stages then the 33min direct this makes the game looks so much more better haha

    2. this games going be more then welcome to my library. Along with call of duty black ops 3, and devils third, plus star fox, and X, and mighty no 9, and zelda,…. wait can and one explain why the wii u aint selling at lest as much as the competiton again?

      1. Wouldn’t hold your hopes up for Black Ops 3 on, Wii U if that’s what you’re referring to.

        1. It be there. Nintendo got a surprise this summer, and black ops just the tip of the ice berge. & thanks i would correct it but i don’t have a clue how to edit tho (T_T) lol

    3. SPRATUN! WII U! That ending makes it genius. Sad thing is that It’s all CGI, but I still like the ad tough.

    4. Jpn takes the prize for better commecial. The music in the US commercial is straight out of a 90’s Saturday morning cartoon, which is not a compliment.

    5. The game looks so fun… O_o But I don’t want to reward Nintendo for not including voice chat! … But I still want to play the game. Argh, I hate when this happens. Somehow I feel I might just give up and buy another Wii U. And then end up hating myself because I sold out… XD

      1. Why would you feel like a sell out if you bought a game you think looks fun? If it’s cool to you then by all means no one is stopping you from buying it (except maybe no cash :T)

Even though I’m for voice chat, the demo was so sick af that it kinda made me forget it haha. Hopefully your next wii u won’t break!

      1. This will dominate CoD. Even in north America. Call of duty is getting dull fast and isn’t fun to me. Splatoon is fun to me.opinion.splatoon= best shooting game in my opinion. This game is unique and in CoD you just shoot and kill. Splatoon is more than that and that’s what makes it fun.

    6. The game is so damn cute… I really want to like it, but Nintendo just makes it so difficult for me. But yea… By the looks of it, I’ll probably give in in the end, lmao.

      1. Lol even though I keep saying I don’t want to buy a Wii U, this game is tempting. Lack of voice chat sucks. But it still looks like fun. I wanna try it. :P But then I’d have to go back to dealing with the short Gamepad battery life. And the region lock. And the worrying about all my money from downloaded games going down the drain if something happens to the system. And the games telling me the Gamepad is required even though I don’t really want to use it. Oh the horror… O_O

        1. Yeaa, I feel you haha. The thing that bothers me the most about Splatoon is that the rounds are so damn short. Only 3 minutes for a game like that? Waaay too short, in my opinion. It will probably feel like the matches ends right when they reach their most enjoyable and exciting point. I just hope that 3 minute limit was just for the demo and that the matches will last longer when the game is actually out. That way, I’d definitely consider getting the game. The lack of voice chat surely is another let-down, but I don’t think that alone would be a dealbreaker for the entire game for me personally.
And about you getting another WiiU, well, if there are enough upcoming games you’re interested in, I think you should consider it. You could just get a used one (in decent condition, of course :p), wouldn’t be as expensive so you wouldn’t feel too bad about it.
However, if it’s just for Splatoon, I personally wouldn’t do it, honestly. All up to you though, of course. :)

          1. In all honesty, would you consider buying a Wii U right now? I know you already have one but I mean if you didn’t. :P

              1. Hey this is for you, Namie, and HollowGrapeJ. I’ve been reading everyone’s comments but perhaps I have been paying more attention to both of yours. Just wanted to drop this in there and I replied a little to HollowGrapeJ before in another thread since he brought up some things he didn’t know about the game. The Direct revealed a lot about the game, though I don’t remember everything exactly. As far as I know the 3 minute thing is just at the beginning and will likely be there for all random matches regular matches. All opponents and teammates are randomly chosen in matches unless you join friends but then you are randomly placed in the match. This plays with set rules and even set stages, five initially, for a specific amount of time. Ranked battles won’t be available until enough players reach level 10 because of the more heated battles. The rules are different and you receive a rank based on how good you do. This includes Splat Zone, Tower Control, and Rainmaker, the latter of which we know nothing about. It is my understanding that big events will bring more options to the game and will also bring more unique and difficult maps that will bring new strategies to the game. It seemed like there would be a lot of them too, three of which screenshots were shown and another six that were not shown. Gear and weapons too like the paintbrush which will not be available from the start. Also, friend matches won’t happen until August. In those friend matches, changing the settings is definitely possible so you’ll have the longer matches you want Namie and with people you know. Set up a team of four or just play with 8 friends. Additionally, there are Splat Fests, where you choose a side and help it win. If you are on the winning side you get a prize. The first one is in June: Rock vs. Pop. There’s a lot more, but I think this is enough.

Also, HollowGrapeJ, I hope you do get a Wii U again and that you can really enjoy it without any problems if you do so. I have no doubt that you enjoyed some of the games before, but like Namie said, other goodies are around the corner.

                1. Thanks for taking your time to type all of that out! I actually really appreciate it, it was quite informative, and I learned some stuff about the game I didn’t know before. So again, thanks! :)
And honestly, just the fact that matches will not be limited to 3 minutes is a huge plus already. What I don’t really like, though, is that friend matches won’t happen before August; I had heard about it before, and it’s just really disappointing in my opinion. But oh well, better late than never, I suppose.
The lack of voice chat is another thing that I find to be rather disappointing, but, as I’ve mentioned in a previous comment, it’s not a deal breaker for me personally.
But either way, after this article showed up, I actually started strongly considering to get the game, and after reading your comment + happening to find it for a much lower price than games usually cost where I live, I’m almost certain that I’ll buy it. Kinda weird, considering I had close to zero interest in this game just a few weeks ago. :p

        2. ok, first of all you keep bashing nintendo for the third party support, you dropped your wii u and bought a ps4 but tell me something, do you have enought money to buy every game that is released for whatever console?
cuz, it looks like you have money to buy tons of games. i’d rether play quality games than crap like watch dogs, spend your money in other things besides videogames.

          1. Am I going to buy every game? Yes, I am! I’m gonna blow all my money away on every single game I see on the PlayStation store. *sarcasm* No. I’ll buy the games that interest me. And what you call quality could easily be garbage to someone else. Not bashing your taste in games or anything, but it’s true. Not everyone likes the same stuff.

        3. The Gamepad’s a great controller, region lock’s barely a problem, and you can fix all that with a single phonecall, your money won’t be going down the drain, you paranoid Nintendo-hating fucknugget.

        1. I believe that they easily could have made the game better and more fun, by offering more game modes, for example, or just giving us bigger arenas so longer matches with more than just 8 players would be possible. Leaving out features and refusing to give people options in some cases isn’t the best way to please the consumers either. I’m also hoping that matches will last longer than just 3 minutes, because that’s just too short for a game like this, in my opinion. I guess there is a possibility that the 3 minute limit was just for the demo (or, that’s what I want to believe, at least :p), or that it will be just for a certain mode instead of every match, which would be absolutely okay in that case.
All of that is just my personal view on the situation, of course. :)

            1. What exactly am I assuming though? Except for the 3 minute thing, everything else I’ve mentioned has been confirmed, if I’m not mistaken. And I’ve purposely said that I’m hoping the 3 minute limit was just for the demo, and acknowledged the possibility that things might turn out different in the final game.

            2. Forgot to add, if you were talking about the “leaving out features” thing I’ve mentioned, I was referring to the lack of voice chat, if that helps.
