Well, looks like we’ll just have to be happy with Nintendo 3DS and Wii U news at E3, because that’s pretty much all we’re getting. After being asked questions about the NX at the recent investor’s meeting, Iwata has said that he doesn’t plan on talking about the NX at all until 2016. And he already said he didn’t want to talk about mobile devices, because he didn’t want people to think they were abandoning home gaming systems. Apparently there won’t be anything about the Quality of Life platform either! So, prepare yourself for another year of being in the dark, NX looks like it will have to wait until E3 2016. But I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait!

I’m glad there isn’t any NX news – I paid for this Wii U and I don’t want to feel like it’s being abandoned. I hope the NX doesn’t come out until at least 2017 – I think the Wii U still has a lot of potential and I want to see what else can be done with it. As for mobile platforms: meh. If they’re good, I’ll play them, but Ninty mobile games don’t really excite me in the same way that like, Zelda U does. However, I think it’ll be a crime if there isn’t a Metroid announcement/teaser of some sort at E3!!!

We are definitely getting the NX by the end of 2016. The NX promo train will start in early 2016, then showcased at E3 2016 and launched for holiday 2016. Nintendo desperately needs a new console. All their efforts to push WiiU sales with great first party titles are not working. The WiiU is still stagnating. As much as I love my WiiU and and all it’s great games, I’m not opposed to a new console in 2016. I’m actually really excited. Nintendo is the only company that gets absolutely excited for new hardware. By the end of 2016 the WiiU would have been on the market for 4 years which is just about one year shy of Nintendo’s typical hardware cycle and as bad as the WiiU has been doing sales wise its commendable that Nintendo didn’t move on sooner. Now going forward I want to see Nintendo really nail it with the NX. They have heard the pleas and Cry’s from every segment of the gaming industry. From the hard core Nintendo fans to the critics and the developers. Nintendo needs to throw its hat in the ring with Sony and Microsoft to come our wining in the next round. They truly need a really powerful console with all the bells and whistles. But as a huge Nintendo fan I also want to see that Nintendo innovation that makes me so excited for their consoles and I believe we can have our cake and eat it too. And as a side note, I honestly believe that the new Zelda has been delayed because its also being prepped as a launch title for the NX to push sales of the new consoles right out the gate (like what they did with Twilight Princess). That’s the only logical explanation that I can see for why it will be skipping E3 this year after already being shown at E3 2014 and demoed on Nintendo Direct.

In that quote where is it saying that this will be a replacement console for the Wii U or even the 3DS. That quote seems to be a third line of hardware.
Everyone keeps forgetting that this is a business for Nintendo and they need to navigate what they say carefully for fear angering customer or backing them self into a corner. There is such a thing called PR. Remember Nintendo said the exact same thing about the DS not replacing the Gameboy and we all know what happened with that. Nintendo already has a dedicated Handheld and home console and they made it very clear that the NX is a dedicated gaming machine. So what other piece of dedicated hardware can they develop that will exist along side the 3DS and WiiU. Of course its replacing one of the two and my bet is on the WiiU.

I’m sorry but I cannot agree with this. The Nintendo Wii U is pretty much only just started. Now was the system released way too fast? Yes it was but with only a year into Mario Kart 8 and only 6 months into Super Smash Bros Wii U, it’s far too early to be saying the Wii U needs to be replaced.
Remember the Nintendo 3DS? It started out as a joke, there was hardly anything for it but now it’s 1 of the best systems in the current generation and the same can happen with the Wii U.
Also, take a look at the dates here, if the Nintendo NX is the successor to the Wii U, that would mean they were making it before the Wii U came out and that’s just not possible. The Wii came out in 2006 and the Wii U wasn’t even conceived until 2008 and wasn’t shown off until 2011, if they were going to release the NV as a next-gen console, it would mean they had to go ahead and begin working on that while simultaneously work on the Wii U as well. At that rate, they may as well have cancelled the Wii U and put all the focus onto the NV.
The Wii U does not need to be replaced, if Nintendo play things smart like what they have been doing for the past year, they will bring it back from the edge.
As a massive Nintendo fan and a huge WiiU fan I understand the dismay over Nintendo development and launching a replacement so soon. But people need to understand that Nintendo is a business and on their end they look at everything from a business perspective. Also they have investors/share holders to appease. Customers dismay and fear that their recently bought WiiU is being replaced is the key reason why Nintendo is marketing the NX as a third pillar. This way they can quell some fears (like they did with the DS) but Nintendo has no place for a third dedicated gaming machine hence why this is in actuality a replacement. And with regards to the sup par release of the original DS, it didn’t take Nintendo four years to turn the fate of that system around. However with the WiiU, Nintendo has been throwing everything at it for the past 4 years and still not being able to turn it into a seller. The WiiU will always be a fantastic little machine that I bought on day one of release and something that for the most part any gamer should appreciate but that doesn’t change the fact that Nintendo is a massive business with share holders that want to see revenue.
Well, you might be right, or I might be. I guess we’ll have to wait and see ;-)
Lack of NX at this year’s E3 isn’t even new news. Iwata stated this when he first announced that the NX exists. He said that it will be shown off next year…

The problem is they also told that they won’t announce any 2016 games either. What the HELL are they even going to talk about?! Splatoon will be released by then and the only remaining games that they could talk about are Yoshi’s Wolly World and Mario Maker but we kinda know pretty much everything about it.

You do realize you can announce games in June and have them be out before the end of the year right? Companies have been doing this for years now.

If you think Nintendo won’t be announcing games that are coming in 2016 at E3 this year then you seriously need a reality check. They also said that the April 1st Direct would only focus on games that are coming out in the Spring but what happened? We got announcements for games like Mario Maker coming in September, Fatal Frame localization for the U.S. and Europe which is coming later this year, Yoshi’s Wooly World coming in June for Europe and this Fall for North America and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem coming this Winter for Japan and in 2016 for North America and Europe. So please just be patient and wait to see how things pan out then judge

My biggest concern, is they release the NX in 2018, built one gen behind and using 2012 parts. :/ – Not being negative, I’m legit worried about it.
And they are way behind with QoL, depending on what it is. The more they delay, the more tech that comes out surrounding health and fitness.

Release dates aren’t always 100% with any company Watchdogs, bloodborne, batman, uncharted 4, witcher, ect all got huge delays , its just something that happens, and if that happens to help the game, by all means do. Zelda always gets delayed. Oot, Windwaker, twilight, SS, ect we delayed
Honestly, I don’t think they should give release dates at all until the game is close to completion. They set themselves up for the criticism when they go back on their word. And they basically lied with Zelda. They specifically said it would be out this year and then like two months later they say it isn’t. How bout they just show trailers and all that jazz and they keep their mouths shut about release date until they know it’s gonna be out on time. (That goes for all developers, not just Nintendo).

Kind of knew it, but something tells me the leakaning will happen near the end of this year with “Leaked” pictures of the prototype console and maybe even a game running on the system. Your first sentence throws the entire piece into a negative slant as you insinuate that hearing only about Nintendo’s main consoles and products that are currently out is some how disappointing when people have been clambering for more on both consoles for years, while also treating this as if Nintendo wasn’t upfront about what they were going to talk about this E3.
