You most probably know that both Sony and Nintendo were planning to work with each other on something you may know as the PlayStation. The idea was scrapped by Nintendo, but a user on Reddit claims to have gotten his hands on the mystical device which played both CD’s and SNES games. We can’t verify its legitimacy, but the prototype certainly should prove to ensure some interesting discussion around the web.
“My dad worked for a company, apparently one of the guys he used to work with, I think his name was Olaf, used to work at Nintendo and when my dads [sic] company went bankrupt, my dad found it in a box of “junk” he was supposed to throw out.
“I have not had a chance to boot her up, I don’t have a power cable at the moment, but it seems like it’s a pretty common DC cable. I’ll have to get one and see how it goes.”
If this is real I would love to own this or at least see you at work. I have actual PlayStation games that would work if its the same software. As well as the Nintendo games
Imagine if Nintendo did take up the offer to combine companies back then… This generation we would have a powerful console with tons of amazing games… It would be a monopoly because obviously Nin/Son would be the better choice than Microsoft. No wonder Nintendo didnt wanna have any part on this shitty project, this thing looks more like Sony product instead of Nintendo (is there any Nintendo logo on this thing? Besides SNES logo?) Also Sony would had gained all the profits from CD based games while Nintendo wouldnt had gotten single cent from them and the contract even tried to get Sony the rights for Nintendo IP´s, so yeah no wonder Nintendo wanted to stop this shitty deal. It was basically Sony trying to absorb Nintendo and their success. Thank goodness that didnt happen, besides more competition the better imo.

Yeah, Sony is pretty ruthless, the company that relies the most on black PR. If only they had used their powers for goodness, perhaps they could’ve weathered the 7th-gen shift & kept their identity; dare I say as a collaborative force w/ Nintendo. The PS’s brand change would’ve been poetic justice had it not mortally wounded console-gaming as a whole. & perhaps Nintendo wouldn’t have shown signs of senility.
Sony is full of shit imo. The fact that they are able to emulate digital Ps2 games on Ps3 but the same games wont work as a disc based releases is bs. Also the fact that they refuse backwards compability with Ps4 so they can sell their shitty PsNow. And also the PS+ thing, i remember how Sony pretended to be the good guy with free online and the jumped ship so they can make more money and fanboys eated that shit up.
And how they were planning to use DRM like XboxOne but due to bad rep One got they changed their plans behind the curtains to look like fucking saints, Sony is full of shit.
Yeah, I haven’t forgotten how Sony smeared Dreamcast, which is especially worse if they knew about SEGA’s struggles.

Or the idea that GameCube & Nintendo are “kiddie”, though Sony isn’t completely @ fault. But they’ve sure been @ least passive aggressive w/ that of late, while pretending to white-knight for Nintendo.
Or their claims about higher MSRP meaning great quality (just see their defenses for justifying PS3’s launch costs).
I also have mixed feelings about their use of Blu-ray, especially since that put PS3 production in a bottleneck & added to PS3’s high price, not to mention their other sectors were influencing the PlayStation brand maybe a little too much. & I find it strange that, not matter how “weak” or how “strong” or how much they sell hardware @ a loss, they always seem to release more expensive consoles (PS had cost more than N64, PS2 had cost more than GCN, PS3 had cost more than 360 [though @ least it was actually more powerful]).
All in all, I do miss them. They brought so much to console-gaming. But their loss of the fundamentals & broken promises are a shame; worse, they still have such a crappy & cold attitude.

Yeah, when Sony did that, it was pretty lame imo. There was nothing wrong with 2D games, heck one of the best Ps1 games was Alundra and it was 2D. I feel like Nintendo saved 2D gaming with GBA, because that system was meant to show that 2D gaming has still lots to offer and developers loved GBA.

Front loading drives weren’t rare at all, back then. The original Sega CD was front loading, as was the 3DO. Most stereo system drives were, too.

There was just too much debt for Sega, its ironic that Dreamcast was actually successful system but Sega was just too deep on debt to rely only on that system.

Think it wouldn’t been cooler if it was ps1 and dreamcast (even though it was probably already dead at the time) but then they would probably use the same cd drive and the games would’ve been on the same tier rather than it being like backwards compatibility

Regardless, I’m glad Sony and Nintendo aren’t in business together. If this is actually legitimate, Sony has their likeness all over it. They probably would have tried to absorb Nintendo as a whole, and that’s no good. Plus, I’m just not a big fan of Sony this generation. I’m afraid Nintendo would have been forced down that same path. They’re better off doing their own thing, both of them.

Nintendo and Sony are the only way to go. Best games on one one, best hardware with the other with pretty damn good games in its own right. Xbot box is unoriginal with safe games and first person shooters.
