VGChartz: Xenoblade Chronicles X Sold Around 442K First Week At Retail Worldwide

Unofficial sales data tracker VGChartz has estimated that the recently released Xenoblade Chronicles X has sold around 442K units during its first week at retail worldwide. Obviously it has been a staggered launch as the huge RPG was released back in April in Japan. Interestingly, the game performed the best in the United States with 225,472 units sold (51%), compared to 86,574 units sold in Japan (20%), and 82,715 units in Europe (19%). The game sold around 10,528 units in the UK, 33,079 units in Germany, and 20,613 units in France.

      1. Hmm, I don’t know. Just because it’s the “most reliable” of unreliable sources, doesn’t make worth to be taken very seriously.
It may be that it’s less unreliable than others, but that doesn’t necessarily make it reliable – and vgchartz has been proven to be unreliable many times now, as ZhugeEX already mentioned.
Personally, I think it’s unprofessional to report on the data from an unofficial and unreliable source. I don’t see vgchartz being “all we’ve got” right now as a plausible reason to do that either. I guess it’s totally alright for any individual to go on the website and check it to get some sort of general idea, but I think it might not be the best thing for a news blog that wants to be taken seriously to make articles based on the info on vgchartz.
But yea, that’s just my personal view on the whole thing.

        1. the real question is why you give an F if it’s accurate or maybe off by 25-75k? who are you people that take software sales so seriously? Do you work for Monolith and get compensated for each copy sold? Or, do you have an open wager in Vegas about X lifetime sales? wtf?

          1. Well, then who are you to take people caring about the numbers so seriously? :)
The reason why I care about how well a game does in terms of sales is because, as opposed to the impression you are giving me with your comment, they do matter to us consumers too, though for a different reason than to those who earn money with it. The success of a game can determine a lot about the future of its franchise, and if it’s a game I have interest in, I don’t see why it’s surprising that I care about its success.
            For example:
Did it good in Western regions, Japan only, or both? -> Likeliness of localization of future titles of the franchise or even of games from that studio in general.
How good/bad did it do globally? -> Likeliness of sequel(s)/more entries for the franchise.
So, you see, there are reasons why you and I as consumers might want to care about the number of units a game manages to sell. The relevance of the success of a game is not limited to individuals that make money off of it only.

        2. I agree with most of what you say, only disagree with it not being worth mention. As long as you don’t take the figures to the letter and just consider them an estimate, it’s reliable enough.

    1. They’re unreliable, but they’re also all we’ve got right now. Lets assume this data is wrong and that Xenoblade did better then this. It’s still impressive considering it’s on the Wii U and it came out with Just Cause 3, and Rainbow Six Siege.

  1. Good!

It’s sad to see that Japanese people are busy with their mobile and casual nonsense.

That’s why whenever I see Japanese sales numbers, I could not care less about them.

            1. Pretty much. The thing is, this Country is SO BAD, that the UK Chart is no where near enough of a representation of how shitty this Country is. The thing that sucks for me? I live in the UK and I hate it.

              1. I’m sorry about that, man. But it is no news that there are much worse places in the world…

Never been to UK before, but I know people complain a lot about the weather and about the cost of living.

        1. Japanese are into portable gaming, either it’s 3DS or mobile but surprisingly, 3DS is still doing just fine there in the face of mobile’s BS dominance. lol

Nintendo isn’t doing well in UK no matter how much good stuff the company offers to those people just to keep kissing their ass for their good side. Call me crazy but I think Xbox One is doing a bit better. They’re actually doing something that PS4 failed/refused to do: Backward compatibility. PS2 digitally doesn’t even count, just like PSNow. I want PS3 compatibility with FREE ONLINE PLAY and external media play/storage like on PS3.

          1. Yeah, it’s impressive in this day and age a game-dedicated portable device (3DS) is still doing fine at Japan.

Nothing compared to the DS days, but still.

Yeah, the backwards compatibility is awesome. Actually, I was reading some articles a couple of days ago on how a PPC game can get decoded into x86 in order to run on the XBOne. Microsoft programmers are quite capable!

I would love to have, at least, my PS3 games running on my PS4 — although free online play would be great as well. But Yoshida — or Hirai, I don’t remember — said in the past that PS3 backwards compatibility will never be considered on PS4. We know that can change since the industry is very dynamic, but… Don’t hold your breath for that.

You’re right but it actually does help with sales at times. I doubt someone like Jon Taffer would use people with a huge following online to promote a bar if it didn’t assist with sales here and there. Especially if the product is good. What’s the point in following someone’s twitter/facebook account if you don’t actually share the same views as them or like what they show you? Otherwise, what’s the point in following them?

    1. I like Chuggaconroy but I seriously doubt he has anything to do with Xenoblade Chronicle X sales. He may have convinced a few hundred people to buy the game because of his original Xenoblade playthrough… but that’s about it…

  2. To be honest i was expecting France numbers to be the same as US if not more. UK gamers are sports and actions centric which doesn’t surprise me. But I guess Xmas will increase the number and we will see a change after Xmas.

  3. even if vgchartz is unreliable i do see this game selling less than half a million, dont get me wrong, its an awesome game and i’ve enjoyed the living sh*t out of it and also the franchise is more popular in the states than everywhere else. i do see it selling about 200k world wide during the holidays which would bring it to over 600k ww. i would be surprised if it sold a total of 1 million world wide during the holidays but i know that wont happen.

    1. VGchartz may not be 100% accurate but your crazy if you think this game is only selling 200k world wide. Also tho they aren’t 100% accurate they do take data from different sources like units shipped so they do have a decent idea on how many copies of the game are out in the wild.

I hope it’s higher than what VGChartz claims it to be.

    1. I think it is. All of the people on my friends list have Xenoblade Chronicles X and I’ve seen hundreds of videos of playthroughs on YouTube of it. The Xenoblade franchise definitely has a bright future…….especially in North America where it’s being heavily supported
