Nintendo Indie World April 2024 roundup

During a new Indie World presentation, Nintendo showcased a vibrant line-up of games from independent publishing and development partners that will be heading to the Nintendo Switch family of systems throughout 2024. Among the many highlights, the video gave gamers a release date for the anticipated game Little Kitty, Big City, a whimsical adventure that puts players in control of a curious kitten trying to find its way home. Players will get the chance to explore the ruins of a fallen utopia and learn the story of the last human alive in the 3D action-platformer Europa, launching in 2024, and the iconic heroes in a half shell return this summer in roguelike brawler Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, tasked with traveling through time to rescue their kidnapped mentor, Splinter.

The showcase also featured a wide-variety of unique game experiences from the cozy to the cosmic, including the turn-based tactical shooter SteamWorld Heist II, the latest entry in Thunderful’s popular SteamWorld franchise, launching Aug. 8; Cat Quest III, the latest instalment in the adorable action-RPG series, which invites players to set sail across the Purribean in search of mythical treasure, launching on Aug. 8; and Yars Rising, a side-scrolling action-adventure game that continues of one of the classic Atari’s best-known titles, Yars’ Revenge, arriving later this year.

  1. Refind Self looks absolutely phenomenal. 1000% my favorite pick from this direct, I’ll be there day 1 to pick it up. The artstyle and premise are just /perfect/

Also, the wordplay is just dawning on me. It’s a pun between ‘re-find self’ and ‘refined self’, oh my god I love this game so much already 😭

  2. I kinda expected some Silksong news but I guess I’m a sweet summer child when it comes to the Silksong release saga. My heart goes out to all the fans.

    1. everyone was expecting silksong news tbh, the game was getting all around the globe recently, so everyone was expecting to show up today.

    2. Oh, let the meme die already. Do you people actually like silksong, or has your hope for games become so low you’re willing to settle on mediocre indie garbage. “How do you know the game is bad if it isn’t even out yet?” Take your pick: A) Because I have eyes, B) How do you know something is poop if it’s not out the butt yet? C) Because you see one indie garbage, you’ve seen them all. I don’t know what your agenda is, and I don’t want to know. If you want to play silksong so bad, then your life has no meaning.

      1. This. This is why we need healthcare reform and more attention to mental health. Look at this poor person’s comment.

  3. Why anyone thought something as big as silksong’s release date would appear in an indie direct is beyond me.

    1. Why would anyone expect a high-profile indie game to be in a high-profile indie showcase? I guess people are just crazy.

        1. Yeah. Nintendo is a pretty high profile company. You are currently on a website dedicated to news related to Nintendo. What are you smoking?

      1. Nope, I was right. Not a personal problem, but the now undeniable truth.

Silksong/Hollow Night’s popularity puts it above being featured in an event very few people watch (compared to nintendo’s, sony’s and microsoft’s main events)

        1. But TMNT is small enough to be in the Indie Showcase. So this very clearly defines that Hollow Knight/Silksong > TMNT in terms of importance and overall popularity…

Bud, your logic is flawed here, and even I didn’t expect Silksong to appear in the Showcase. At this point I think it’ll have its own dedicated trailer reveal like Omori did for its Switch release (unless I’m forgetting something, I don’t think Omori was shown off on any Indie Showcase)

          1. Well, to be honest, TMNT is smaller than Hollow Knight. In terms of gaming, which is the focus and market of these presentations.

        2. That was a pitiful presentation. Maybe half way through the year Nintendo can give us the first real Direct of 2024.

  4. This was a good Showcase. I’ve had my eye on Europa for a while, and that WayForward Atari game looked pretty cool too. Anton Blast looks like a good speed based game (I assume it’s similar to Pizza Tower, but I haven’t played that one yet), and seeing TMNT was a nice surprise too.

Overall a nice goodie bag of games. I didn’t expect to see Silksong since I’m not one to fall for hype and have been expecting it to have its own dedicated trailer at this point, so I’m not at all bummed it didn’t show up. Sad to see people dismissing this Showcase because of no Silksong.

  5. Silksong is an Xbox Game Pass day 1 game, we have to assume that if any of the console makers are going to deliver news on it, it’s going to be Microsoft. I do think it’s coming fairly soon (as in the next few months) – I don’t think all the age ratings of it are a red herring. It may even stealth release.

  6. Eh… this IDW Nick style sucks so much. And then even a dumb rougelike, as if there are not enough from this genre already.

I swear, games are getting worse and worse.
