It appears as though Nintendo takes the mobile space seriously as it’s been revealed that the gaming giant once teamed up with popular handset manufacturer Nokia to create what some would call the ultimate gaming phone.
A small research and development team from both companies worked together less than ten years ago to investigate the possibility of a Nintendo phone. The team emerged with a concept that was taken to the board of directors, but the idea was rejected and the development team dissolved.

Cool.
Where do I sign up?
Wut!!?? I’m totally looking forward to it.. I love nintendo and nokia..and for them collab like that.. Wow!!
pre-order ?
NES /SNES games on it please :)
Wooooow!
I would buy one on pre-order.
Funny thing is, I saw this coming a long time ago. Not the teaming up with Nokia, but Nintendo making a gaming phone. When I went to Japan, some people had phones that looked like a mini gameboy and they even had accelerometers built in them. They had games on them like fishing and such. So it would be obvious that Nintendo would be making their own gaming phone sooner or later. Now I have an iPhone and I have to admit there are a lot of pretty high quality games for it, but honestly, with Nintendo being the masters of handheld gaming, a phone from them is probably going to be that cool gaming/mobile phone that everyone “thought” the N-Gage was gonna be.
3DS, Kid Icarus returns, best Star Fox game now in 3D, Goldeneye, and now a phone?!
Nintendo is dancing on the competition right now!
that’s IF they decide to actually release a phone…..
Why is everybody saying they can’t wait and want to pre-order one? It said in the article that it happened years ago, the idea was scrapped and the dev team dissolved.

About time someone mentioned that, it’s funny how people can’t read.
really, no where does it say that they are releasing a phone with Nokia, only that they once tried it
Are you all really building up anticipation for this thing? It says they thought about it but ultimately the idea was rejected? So unless they pick it back up (which I doubt) then there won’t be a phone.
It does sound like an interesting concept though.
Woah, hope it has a jackpoint for a n64 controller or wiimote
Everyone, if you read the ENTIRE article, not just the title, you’d read that they THOUGHT of making one more than 10 years ago. The development team was dropped. Learn to read
“Learn to read”
I’m sure everyone, or at least most everyone, read the entire article, and is just expressing how badly they want one. There’s no need to talk down to everyone. I myself would love to have a Ninten-phone.
If I recall correctly, Mr. Miyamoto said that he could not release any details on their talks with certain cell phone companies. This leads me to believe that the 3DS is indeed capable of being a cell phone / video phone, and may have Skype or an actual cell phone service. I would LOVE to have Skype on my 3DS. I would also love to have some sort of cell phone service, but I can’t afford monthly payments. So, I wonder if (assuming the 3DS is a capable cell phone) the 3DS could support a variety of companies? I use Tracfone, by the way.
I can’t believe people on here are like, “I need to pre-order!” ITS CANCELED. rejected, and the team dissolved. Reading the article is a good idea you know.
It was a nice concept. However, it appears it was ahead of its time. Such was the virtual boy as well.
I’m sure you know what this means. With the increasing popularity of games on smart phones, only a matter of time before Nintendo announces the 3G-DS (An extension of the 3DS).
Even if nintendo made a phone, I doubt it could beat my DROID. And @Aug 12 7 :30 most smart phones can already play nes, snes, genesis,gb,gbc, and gba games
I’m sorry but if Nintendo made a phone, why would they make sure to set the technology back to the gba era? That would just be stupid. They would’ve made it more advanced then that, and besides, trying to play a gba game without buttons can be nearly impossible, unless you play something slow like pokemon.
Wow man…
Two titans that never realy met (i guess) now starting a project like that?
“Nseries” sujestive hun??
“but the idea was rejected and the development team dissolved.”
meaning it aint gunna happen for those who are looking forward to it
So… 10 year old news?
This almost feels like celebrity gossip: A news so small with so little interest that makes the headlines.
+1 Yes, really low standards….
