GoldenEye 007 has been a commercial success on the Wii according to Nintendo’s UK communications chief Rob Saunders, proving that there’s still a market for ‘core games on the console.
“The sales of GoldenEye show that these titles can and do perform well on Wii.
“The idea that Wii owners are only after smaller mini-game compilations or first-party titles isn’t true. A good quality title, supported well by both publisher and retail, has just as much chance of performing well as any Nintendo title.”
– Rob Saunders

It´s not a hardcore-title it´s a nostalgic title. And Nintendo knows they always sell good.
I bought a Wii for my 8 year old, and even she is getting tired of ‘ring toss’ games. It’s encouraging to see some ‘good’ games coming to the wii, making it truly ‘fun for the whole family’.
Damn I wanted to buy this, have to wait till next month for this purchase
I’m not convinced. Nintendo did everything in their power to advertise the Hell out of Goldeneye, so it’s no surprise that it sold well.
one problem with what you said, its not a single vid on the nintendo channel for 007 golden eye
Of course it sold well.
It’s Goldeneye.
I don’t know why people still try to make the argument that the Wii is or isn’t for the “hardcore” gamer. Nintendo is a video game company and as such it is concern to bring entertainment to EVERYONE, not just the casual gamer or the hardcore gamer. In case we have forgotten, Nintendo’s strategy on Wii was to set itself appart from Microsoft’s and Sony’s strategy of horsepower and harcore focused gaming; Nintendo stated from day one that they wanted to create their own path and focus. Nintendo wanted to make gaming fun for everyone.
If you look at Sony and Microsoft now, you can tell that NIntendo’s strategy of focusing in bringing families and gamers together worked! If you see most of XBOX and PS3 ads, they all show families and friends together playing Kinect and Move respectively, they don’t show gamers alone in a living room with a headset playing Halo or SOCOM. Video games are about playing games, either alone or with others, and having a good time. Nintnedo knows this and that’s why they are on top this generation.
As for those who attack Nintendo for having few far and in between “hardcore games” you gotta remember that Nintendo gives out the programing kits, it’s up to the game companies to make the games and take advantage of the features the console has to offer. It’s not Nintendo’s fault companies are cashing on the “casual gamer” by flooding the Wii with family games.
