Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was recently quizzed by online gaming publication Kotaku regarding whether or not Virtual Boy games will come to the Nintendo 3DS.
“As a consumer, I have experience with every Nintendo platform and, I think every accessory, including the Superscope, with the exception of the Virtual Boy… so it’s difficult for me to articulate a point of view back to our parent company why we absolutely have to have a Virtual Boy store.”
– Reggie Fils-Aime
Let’s hope it’s successful this time around. :P
I hope they change the colours a little so everythings not black & red, but, even if they don’t, it’s still nice to add the library. Good choice, I look forward to Mario Tennis & Wario Land.
The Virtual Boy games were supposed to induce headaches after a few hours game time.
This article is totally misleading. If you read carefully, Reggie said that he has “experience with every Nintendo platform… and accessory… with the exception of the Virtual Boy…” so it’d be difficult to “point a view” to Nintendo of Japan on “…why we absolutely have to have a Virtual Boy store.”
Whoever “wrote” this article needs to make sure they read it right before spreading rumors that would ultimately affect negatively Nintendo if such rumors don’t become a reality.
Hence the headline ‘could possibly’.
“Could possibly” implies that there is hope something would/could happen. The way Reggie stated it, there is NO hope that would/could happen. Hence misleading headline article.
Let’s face it, as much as we still love it, I love and still use my VB; the VB was the ugly duckling of Nintendo. The “alcoholic” or “imprisoned” member of the family nobody talks about. If it was up to Nintendo, they would travel back in time and erase the VB from existence, and that’s what Reggie is actually saying, that he will not “vouch” or make a case for VB to make a comeback in any way, shape, or form.
I completely agree with Wii-Lite. It feels like too much was read in between the lines.
Just want to clarify that my comment was based on Wii-Lite’s first comment and not his second. His second comment wasn’t there when I started typing out mine xD The reason I wanted to clarify that was because I wouldn’t say there isn’t any hope, but titling an article that it could happen does feel misleading based on Fils-Aime’s comments.
Were there actually any good games for the Virtual Boy? It’s hard to make a game store full of games that would never sell…
Though it would be a great way to show how far Nintendo has come.
Hahahaha man I own that crap. We dont need no VB on 3DS. I’d much rather see NES, SNES, N64 & GB games instead. I’m still waiting for the Virtual Arcade on wii to get better support =(
I played my cousin’s virtual boy once. There were some good games, but they gave me headaches. This actually sounds like a good idea, for many people this will be the first time playing the game, since the VB was a flop and it’s never been put on the VC, all they would need to do is change the colours around.
But this article doesn’t actually make it sound like this is going to happen.
@Wii-Lite – Check this out:
“I have experience with every Nintendo platform … with the exception of the Virtual Boy”
Meaning he has never used the Virtual Boy before in his life.
“so it’s difficult for me to articulate a point of view back to our parent company why we absolutely have to have a Virtual Boy store.”
Therefore, due to his lack of use of a Virtual Boy, it is impossible for him to pitch the idea to Nintendo of Japan. It’s like trying to write an essay on Science when you major in Art. The knowledge of the product isn’t there, so he can’t guarantee to consumers that the idea will exist.
Personally, I think it might happen as a re-make series. The graphics were an eyesore, hence the flop. I DID actually play some of the VB games, and they had solid gameplay. I think they’d sell well if re-made. There’s even more possibility of this due to the small number of VB games in existence.
