Outspoken Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter claims that Nintendo will have a struggle on their hands to compete against the competition with their next home console.
“The question is what happens when the successor launches, as it is likely it will be too little, too late.”
“I think that Nintendo missed the opportunity to launch an HD successor in 2009, and again in 2010, and waiting until fall of 2011 concedes a lot of market share to Microsoft and Sony.
“Anyone with a Wii who bought a HD TV has to notice that the graphics on a very large screen don’t look as compelling as most HD content, and Microsoft and Sony will market to these people.
“Kinect is pretty unique, while Move is very Wii-like, but both run in full HD, and consumers will begin to appreciate that more as prices for the PS3 and 360 bundles approach the price of the Wii.”
He added that their next system could control similar to Kinect, or even use the Vitality Sensor in some form.
“I have no idea what they have planned, but suspect that they will be extremely proud of their ability to innovate. My guess is that they’re working on something similar to Kinect, but the Vitality Sensor could be the direction they are heading in as well.”
– Wedbush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter

I’ll believe it when I see it.
You may wanna see the article and the 5-year theory chart here: http://wii.ign.com/articles/113/1135489p1.html
They’d need to really beat possible anticipated Microsoft and Sony consoles of 2012, if they wanna be ahead. Besides, Nintendo should also stop being persistantly arrogant and start meeting the needs of 3rd-party publishers, like Ubisoft, CapCom and others. I still can’t believe that the Wii missed out of great titles like “Super Street Fighter IV”.
I don’t think M and S will hurry with new consoles, they just started making money. I would think 2014 is more likely.

Nah! I don’t think that Nintendo would come with something similiar to Kinect for their next home console.
This guy is just speculating only with the already available information, he has no idea of what Nintendo is working with. It’s just like saying “There will be a Playstation 4, even more powerful than Playstation 3″…
SPECULATION!
I agree that they’re going to need to prioritize beauty this time around, though, as the Wii more or less left the stable already dated. And its hard not to look at even the most beautiful games it has and remember how completely mindblowing the transition from N64 to GameCube was … I guess that kind of difference is getting harder to achieve.
Nintendo always release their products at the right time. They know exactly what they are doing. The popularity of the wii will definatley run through to their next gen console, IMO I have no doubt about that.
The thing is, that Pachter’s mentally in the same corner (or sphere) as Sony and Microsoft. In another way of saying it: they don’t speak Nintendo.
Nintendo is’nt out to compete, whatever they do next wont be “just HD” or “just more Power” – where have Pachter bin the last 5 years?
If you use Wii with the component cable, games such as Galaxy and Brawl become rendered very beautifully. So I don’t have too many complaints – I don’t think those games would have been better with HD.
But lack of HD has distanced Wii from its competitors… ie; the “hardcore” market has left nintendo to go to xbox or playstation, and that is not an easy group to win loyalty back from.
Hopefully we can have an HD nintendo console soon.. one that will also get ports of great games like CoD.
it already has COD, you should have said games like assassins creed 2 or something
I just feel annoyed by Nintendo because they are going to bring out the “Wii 2” just when most people where getting and putting the Wii into practice and buying games and hardware for it but all of a sudden there is something new and even better that we must all just flock out and spend spend spend!!! This really irritates me about them! Its a money making racket if you ask me.
Nintendo have said very little about a Wii 2 everything that we know now is pure speculation – as for people only not getting to grips with it, well they’ve had 4 years already and the Wii 2 if it does come out anytime soon will most likely be backwards compatible and use the Wii like controls after investing in them so much already.
Nintendo are not purely about money making and im glad they took this generation to innovate rather than go the incremental route even if people hate the Wii you can believe that MS or Sony wouldnt have risked Move or Kinect without its success.
Michael Pachter? This is the same guy who said that peoplpe would rather buy multi-format mobile devices than the Nintendo 3DS. Then later on said that the 3DS would be sold out next year and 2012! Don’t believe anything this idiot says, he’s wrong as often as he’s right. I think he is an idiot.
To be honest I really can’t tell the difference between HD and non HD
This Pacher… patcher… whatever (don’t care).. Its a sony and apple fan boy. What are you hopping for? It clearly hates Nintendo. Anyway, he’ll still be trowing sh*t as long as he exist.
Thats all he do, don’t it?
I’m sick of hearing him complain about Nintendo. They haven’t listened to him in the past, why will they now? HD is something I want badly for the next console. The fact of the matter, though, is that Nintendo will put the innovative part first and THEN think of graphical capabilities. I wish Pachter would understand that by now. Gameplay before graphics, IMO.

Nintendo was the first to have games play with sensors then came along XBOX. I’ve been using Nintendo for years and I don’t plan to switch.
Shut the FUCK up Pachter. You only know as much as us what Nintendo’s next home console will be about.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo aren’t launching a new console for a long time. Sony still holds onto the 10 year plan idea, Microsoft’s Kinect is bigger than just an accessory, and remember when Nintendo said we won’t hear of a new console until 45 million US Wii sales.
Wii sales are still fairly strong anyway. While the Wii itself doesn’t wow as many people as it did when it launched, it’s far from out of the competition.
Would this blog please stop quoting this buffoon?

Patcher should look at past Nintendo console releases. Based on previous console lifespans, the Wii should last until around 2012/13. He should stop trying to compare the Wii’s financial plan to the release schedule of competitors. Nintendo’s got very few, but very large target audiences, and those audiences go to Nintendo for a reason. They don’t care if the console doesn’t look stunningly beautiful in HD. I’m sure Pong didn’t look that great either, but it was fun as hell.
If nintendo is gonna make a wii 2 then they should let it be able to use wii 1 games or im gonna be pissed
Nintendo’s done backwards compatibility most of the time. GC on Wii, GB/GBC on GBA, GBA on DS, DS on 3DS. I’m sure we’ll have Wii on the next system.

Pachter is wrong. How can something that has never been announce or come out (Wii 2) be too late to compete with 2 other systems (ps4 and xbox 720?) that aren’t out yet either?
