Enterbrain, the publisher behind revered Japanese gaming publication Famitsu have revealed that for the first time since their release the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS have been outsold by Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Sony’s PlayStation Portable.
Enterbrain also revealed that Sony’s Playstation Portable was the best selling games platform in Japan during 2010 by shifting an incredible 2,640,499 units. However the PlayStation 3 outsold the Wii by a margin of less than 10,000 consoles.
This would be more shocking if it weren’t for the fact that nearly everyone and their mother owns a DS and/or Wii by now.

Why afraid? Competition only benefits us as customers. Hope that this scares Nintendo Jpn a bit and that their pride makes them wanna release the “Wii2” sooner than 2014. :)

Well said Fook, as a fan of Sony and Nintendo, I love this competition we as gamers reap the benefits. Perhaps this helped Nintendo top the PSP with my new favorite portable system the 3DS. Best portable gaming ever!

I definitely think that a huge margin of people own a Wii, and some of them own a ps3 as-well, its something called “console exclusivity” I cant get Final Fantasy XIII and GT5 on the Wii and I cant get Mario Galaxy 2 or Zelda Skyward Sword on the PS3, many people buy 2 console or maybe 3 (Xbox is there too!) its not that there not content with the Wii, its that other games that are fun come out on other systems too. Same goes For DS and PSP, I also own both systems( or used too, got a 3DS now, DS is no more) I have the DS for my Dragonquest 9 and Pokemon, and my PSP for monster hunter and Dissidia, but on both cases of handheld and console I got the Nintendo first, why? the games are just better to start with.

There are plenty of different age groups and people that don´t own a Wii yet. And Nintendo knows this. Only fourth of the age group “male 15-64” own a wii (still a big number, but that is still not “everyone”)
Not even the statement “everyone drinks coca cola”, applies, and a lot more people drink coca cola than owns a Wii ;)
That argument is invalid, as the age group (15-64) is the adult age group; in other words, the children group (13%) can’t own Wiis (or any other console system) on their own anyways (so an adult has to buy it). In addition, every house only needs one Wii, so ideally only half of the adult age group needs a Wii. Now this is an extremely simple way of estimating it and probably a bit off, but that’s pretty much how it works.
Also, Japan has 150 Million people now.
Finally, GreenCheese said “huge margin of people”, which isn’t everyone. You’re actually the one that said “everyone”, so you’re contradicting yourself with your statement. I’m not trying to hate on you or anything, but seeing as you were so glad to try to (keyword try) prove GreenCheese was wrong I thought it was only appropriate to return the favor.
