Monster Hunter Wilds on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S drew plenty of criticism at launch due to the game’s performance on the hardware. Many attributed it to the use of Capcom‘s RE Engine for a large open world game. Not one to concede defeat, the team spent hours improving the performance of the game through software updates.
Therefore it came as a slight surprise when it appeared Monster Hunter Wilds was coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. In a new interview game’s producer Genki Sunano said it has been a “painstaking” process bringing the game to Nintendo’s latest platform as they had to optimise and fine-tune the engine to get the game up and running satisfactory on the Nintendo Switch 2. Here’s what he said:
“Wilds is packed with a tremendous number of elements, so we had to carefully evaluate the assets and underlying processing behind each one, determining what needed to be preserved and what could be adjusted without changing the overall experience. It was this painstaking, and at times seemingly endless, process of making decisions and optimizations one by one that proved to be one of our biggest challenges in delivering a comfortable handheld experience while preserving what makes Wilds feel like Wilds.”
