Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says that he’s open to discussing third-party Wii U exclusives, but not if he has to pay for the privilege. Both Microsoft and Sony have battled for exclusivity on third-party content, but Iwata says this isn’t something Nintendo is prepared to do.
“While Nintendo is not entirely opposed to exploring the option [of exclusive games], I don’t think it would be an appropriate course of action for Nintendo to get into a battle with a company like Microsoft over the cost or the expense of trying to go head to head in a situation to try to obtain exclusive rights.”
“If a third-party developer or publisher has come up with an idea of a potentially very unique use of the Wii U functionality with such a device, there is a high possibility that Nintendo will be a partner with that third-party in an unprecedented manner.”

Nintendo is a small business compare to Microsoft and Sony since they make other products for different market.
Nintendo primary market is Video game which means they have less money to burn compare to Microsoft and Sony.
They know this and won’t be drawn into a bidding war.
Yeah, that makes sense. The way to combat Xbox and PS exclusives is to make new Nintendo-created IPs, or have third-party devs create games that can only work on WiiU (as in it requires the GamePad).
The Wii is still doing better than the Xbox 360.. and 3DS is killing the PS Vita… so what are you talking about.
I’m sorry, but that is false. Over the course of five generations Nintendo has built up a some of money that in comparison to Microsoft and Sony is massive, their pockets are almost limitless.
Also, Microsoft and Sony’s gaming divisions do not pull their funds from the company itself, their funds are based solely on that divisions earnings. This is coming from my experience in the industry, just trying to keep the facts straight.

In Nintendo’s defense, I think they feel if a company creates a game around their unique controller, it might make the game exclusive in its’ own right. If a developer feels that their game will sell well on Wii U, they may not feel the need to make it multiplatform.

The first reason why they not doing this is becouse Nintendo has the best first party Games.
They dont need to buy exclusives, they already own them ;) And any software company wants to make as much us money as they can, so they will bring every game in the future which will be release on the playstation or xbox 360 also to the WiiU ;)
