Slash Gear writer Don Reisinger, the same person who tried to convince people not to pre-order Nintendo’s upcoming console, admits Wii U’s launch lineup is impressive. Reisinger likes the fact that Wii U will launch with “kid-focused titles,” like Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U, as well as games for adults, including Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Assassin’s Creed III.
I have to say, I’m awfully impressed. I know that I’ve been somewhat tough on the Wii U here on Slashgear, saying that you shouldn’t preorder the device just yet, but perhaps this game lineup could change my mind. For once, Nintendo seems to understand the importance of third-parties, with 19 of the titles coming from a company other than the Mario maker.
I’m a firm believer that game libraries define video game consoles. And I’m also a firm believer that without a solid launch lineup of titles that appeal to all kinds of gamers, it’ll be difficult for a console to get off the ground.
The Wii U’s launch lineup appears to check all of the boxes gamers would expect. There are the kid-focused titles, of course, but you’ll also find some adult games, like Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Assassin’s Creed III. Add that to the new Darksiders and Arkham City and I think you have a solid game lineup.
And for those of us who still look back fondly at the old days of console launches that included all kinds of fighting games, having Tekken Tag Tournament 2 available on launch day just feels, well, right.

Exactly the same with me, except I never wasted money buying Other M. YouTube was enough to show me what a crapfest that game was.
Other M is a really good game from what I played so far. I just didn’t like the first prime for some reason, but I might get the trilogy.
I played all three versions of Prime and Other M as well. I agree with you that Other M is, in fact, a very good game, but it´s not on par with the Prime series, those game just excel in every subject: art design, gameplay, sound desing, music, graphics… they´re just awesome. I´m not a fan of FPS, but Metroid Prime is a pleasure and a blast to play. Hope they come with more, WiiU seems the perfect platform for games like that.

True that. Haven’t played pikmin, but I have tried getting all the Pokemon. I had all of them except Totodile, his evolutions, and the event Pokemon of the 4th Generation. Then my dog chewed up my Diamond version. I quit playing the series after that because I didn’t want to go through that hell again.

I personally do NOT want a Zelda game to be like skyrim. One thing is that skyrim is a disgrace to the elder scrolls series. Another thing is that Huge open worlds aren’t what Zelda stands for. Zelda stands for getting yourself lost in dungeons existing in a world that is decent sized yet full of life. Its about seeing the beauty of the land of hyrule but being able to travel from one end to the other quickly. The locations in skyrim seem pretty generic and lifeless to the point where i never want to see snow again in a video game. The fact is Zelda’s world, despite being relatively small in comparison to skyrim’s, is full of life with beautiful locations such as the zora waterfall to the busy streets of castle town.Thats how I belive Zelda’s world should stay. remeber what da vinci said: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”.

What about Xenoblade’s world? That was absolutely huge and the scale of the game was overwhelming, but it was still charming and colourful. I cannot even think about how amazing Zelda could be if it had such a massive and beautiful over world.
And regarding Skyrim’s over world; yes it was repetitive and practically colourless, but imagine a world on the same scale with all the magic and charm of Zelda.

There is no game more “core” than Mario. When you think of games, you think of Mario. As a matter of fact I would say that when most people think of games, some Nintendo first party game comes to mind. whether it be Mario, Mario Kart, Metroid, Pokemon, Zelda, Wii Sports, etc. Nintendo is gaming.

Seriously, why do people label games that don’t have massive amounts of blood for every button you press kiddy games? It only means the game is accessible to a much larger public and involves all ages. It doesn’t mean the game is targeted solely for children, or that adults can’t have fun with it or feel bad for having fun playing those games!
I say, Call of Duty is more of a kiddy game than anything I’ve ever seen: the only difference between the first one and the continuations are the graphics and weapons. There’s no major change in the formula, or anything that renovates the series. The only thing producers do to make sure people will buy their FPS’s is putting extremely realistic graphics and new weapons.
If you compare the evolution of other “less mature series”, like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Mega man, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Tekken, Street Fighter, Soul Edge, Sonic, and so many others, you feel like they don’t even care for gamers anymore. While those series listed improve in gameplay, different experiences, stories and characters, and having not ultra-realistic graphics, but well-worked designs for scenarios, characters, epic music compositions, and so many other features, FPS’s do nothing different from what they’ve been 5,10 years ago!
If you ask me, FPS’s like CoD and Battlefield are the most incompetent and childish kind of game regarding development and effort taken to make those games. I’ve seen many FPS’s much better than those (like Portal/Portal 2, Fallout, Metroid Prime), and that’s because they bring something different from shooting and bad mouthing everyone’s mothers!
