Thanks to the new controller and its 6.2-inch touchscreen, there are multiple Wii U games that can be played solely on the Wii U GamePad, including Little Inferno, New Super Mario Bros. U, Need For Speed: Most Wanted and Scribblenauts Unlimited.
Also, specific parts or modes of select Wii U games, like Nintendo Land and Rabbids Land, can be played by using the Wii U GamePad’s screen for viewing.
Here’s a list of existing Wii U games that support the Off TV play feature:
- Assassin’s Creed III
- Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition
- Ben 10 Omniverse
- Call of Duty: Black Ops II
- Darksiders 2
- FIFA 13
- Just Dance 4
- Little Inferno
- Madden 13
- Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
- Mass Effect 3
- Mighty Switch Force: Hyper Drive Edition
- Nano Assault Neo
- NBA 2K13
- Need For Speed: Most Wanted
- New Super Mario Bros. U
- Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge
- Nintendo Land
- Puddle
- Rabbids Land
- Scribblenauts Unlimited
- Skylanders Giants
- Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition
- Trine 2: Director’s Cut
- Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper
- Toki Tori 2
- Tank! Tank! Tank!
For those who have it, what is Trine 2 like?
Fun side-scrolling platformer. Beautiful visuals and art. Fun puzzles, a bit of action, etc. It’s a good game.
Speaking of which… did you know that Trine 2: Director’s Cut is #1 in the top 20 Wii U eShop games?
For some reason I find the game a little clunky, mostly because of the jumping
Trine 2 directors cut – Massages your eyes and Rapes your brain…….
I love the game though. 9/10 .
I enjoy it. Play controls are a little floaty, but it has gorgeous visuals and has a great online co-op.
All these games are shit! Die nintendo!!! DIE!!!
Go Fuck yourself
Oh my! So much creativity!!!!!!!
fuck off fanboy troll
Really, cause only two of those games are Nintendo’s.
All of mine are except for ZombiU, which is good because I like laying in bed playing!
Trine 2 is a mix of side scrolling action with puzzle mix, is a surprisingly good game with outstanding graphics and awesome musics, I enjoyed it better than any full retail wii u launch games
Nintendo Land?
Certain games such as Donkey Kong Crash Course, Link, Pikmin, Metroid, etc.
Oh! You’re Right!
Some attractions you play solo on the GamePad don’t need the TV at all. It does have off TV play but it’s limited.
Nice!! Almost as good as ice cream :)
So no off TV play for Aliens then, oh well.
We may hear something later on, who knows?
well, i doubt they would do off screen play with aliens since they’ve been talking up using the controller as your motion tracker. but who knows, it might. hell everyone though that you couldnt with arkham city, but it turned out that you could.
Yeh , it says these are the ”anounced” wiiu games. We don’t know much about ACM wiiu just yet. Chances are it will have everything…
I think you are missing a few there.
I own Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge and Tank! Tank! Tank!, and they both have off screen play.
This post is by Alba. Of course there is misleading/untrue/missing infromation.

First of all Rich, of this website there is a reply button, so you don’t have to use @. Secondly, I’m not being a douche about it, I’m telling the truth! THIS ISN’T FUCKING NEWS! I KNEW THIS LIST MONTHS AGO!
*on this website
*slow clap* congrats for keeping up to date with your gaming news bro, but some of us do not, if you’re not satisfy with the news being provided on this site feel free to leave, but stop acting like a douche on someone else hard work in bringing news to us every single day. If you dont agree to what I say then please, create a gaming news site and see how well you can maintain it, if not then could you please SHUT THE FUCK UP!! Thank you :)
I don’t hate this site, BILL. I just don’t like when Alba posts random shit. Okay, BILL? Are you satisfied now, BILL?
Maybe random to you, but it sure isnt for us, I myself love welcome any news this site has to offer and besides why hate it?, does it hurt you in any way? do you have some sickness that triggers you butthurtness when something random are being posted? if you dont like the news you can just skip it and move on with your life, if you dont have one then I guess you can troll all you want bro. ;)
Sorry I meant Rich not Bill. I got you confused with that awful pile of duck cunt. I’m truly sorry.
He was just expressing a fact, Rich.
There’s no reason for anyone to be bickering about this—
Here’s what matters—news is news. You read it, you learn or get somethin’ outta it, and you carry on. Such is the way of life (“THE MORE YOU KNOW”).
That said, in MY opinion, this article is pretty pointless. Speaking of the Wii U GamePad’s INability to display what’s normally on the TV is better for upcoming games or reviews, but we don’t need an actual list of games that don’t/do support the feature.
We KNOW that most Wii U games will utilize because it takes about five minutes for developers to incorporate it (from Darksiders II developer interviews in the past for the Wii U). The same goes for the Nintendo 3DS—speaking of 3D functionality is a “NO DUH!” since only one game (or, at least, one game to my recollection), Fluidity: Spin Cycle, doesn’t make use of the 3D (which I think is ridiculous because the game could totally be played with the Circle Pad or stylus gestures, hence my not buying it yet.
It’s like listing all the peripherals that work with each game in existence for the Wii U—you just don’t do it.
Exactly. If somebody really wanted to know this information, they would probally go to Nintendo’s website or a Wikipedia page.
I dont usually keep up to date with these kinds of information, but I do visit this site regularly, so I’m informed now :)
Well I myself had found this article to be quite useful cus I know now what versions I will buy and just to clarifies things this conversation started when adarazz101 called out Abba by stating that he/she is doing such a poor job at what he/she does, this may be true to some extent, but at least be more appreciative by what these people are doing for us gamers, if you dont like how they run their site, theres always other site to visit, but given they’re always here regardless, I’ll just take them as useless trolls.
He’s not trolling you or Alba (Abba is the music group, remember? :P).
What he points out is true—you can use a variety of sources to find this information. Heck, you can even use Miiverse. I answer questions all the time on Miiverse for people who are inquisitive on whether or not a game supports a certain controller or Off-TV play, etc. There are other places for this type of news, and while I do believe just as adarazz101 that the news article here is pointless (because it is and there’s no argument there), this website is called MYNintendoNews for a reason.
What’s said stays for me, though—a pointless article like this is simply irrelevant to most of the Nintendo gaming community, so readers (like us) of this website that keeps it going in the first place are free to voice our statements in that regard in order to get a point across.
Yes I know he make mistakes, but you dont see regulars on here making a big deal about it or being a douche, ONLY trolls, believe me Ive been on this site for quite awhile so I know and just so you know,on other news all he does is spreading his negativity.
i wish they dont turn the gamepad into a cash grab game by putting all these weird gimmicks on it, i just want off-play for every game so i can just lay in bed and play..
Well some games need the TV and the GamePad. It’s not all about you, selfish bastard!
Yes but it’ll be nice to have an option to play off-screen and that my friends is not being selfish, so right back at you bro :)
Guess what? Some of the gameplay requires both the TV and the GamePad. Before Wii U you could never play console games off-screen so stop complaining.
doesnt change the fact that everyone seem to love the idea of playing a full game on the gamepad, so yeah would be nice if all games support this, but of course its my opinion so please dont hate me for it :)
Yes, but the GamePad is not a “cash in” because it allows you to do things other systems could not. If the GamePad’s only function was to play games off the TV screen, then it would be a “cash in”.
It is your opinion, but it’s illogical at that.
The Wii U GamePad is not only meant for Off-TV Play—in fact, that is one of the features Nintendo talks about and only touches on briefly.
At the end, the Wii U is an HD Nintendo home console. The GamePad unit is separate from the TV screen (no strings attached) allowing players to explore a world that can extend for leaps and bounds beyond the TV, shoot shurikens and arrows with precise touch controls, enjoy asymmetrical gameplay with fellow local players, and an endless array of other possibilities that could never haven been captured on the Nintendo 3DS/DS due to the handheld devices having two screens attached to each other.
It is a versatile, comfortable device that expands upon gaming, social features (Miiverse drawings, anyone?), and other entertainment options such as Netflix and YouTube in so many different ways that it would be impossible to run out of ideas for it.
Off-TV play is nice, but the major focusing point for Nintendo is not Miiverse, it’s not the Off-TV play, it’s not Nintendo TVii—it’s the Wii U GamePad. Ever since the Nintendo DS, they have been looking at new ways to BROADEN gaming experiences further, rather than narrow them down. This is why we have so many countless options for the Wii U, and why it sparks so much Miiverse interest towards these differentiating topics on Miiverse for gaming communities.
Nintendo just loves to gives us choices now.
Nintendo: “You want to play Mario Kart? Here’s your options!”
“Wii U GamePad”
“Wii U Pro Controller”
“Wii Remote”
“Wii Remote + Nunchuck”
“Wii Wheel”
“Wii Classic Controller”
“Wii Classic Controller Pro”
^ “AND, if you are using the GamePad, we also support Off-TV play for those snuggling up in the warmth of their beds, just before sleep, getting that one last round in before it’s all lights out.” /end example
I don’t know about you, but I like the options that Nintendo gives us for each game they release. Everybody has a different opinion on controls or gameplay, so it’s great to see its use there.
But I will say it now, and I will say it again—the Wii U’s main feature is the GamePad. Second to that would be its HD Nintendo games. Following up in third would be the social functions available now through Miiverse and how it connects gamers from living room to living room in such a coherent way that has never been done before.
Exactly the GamePad should add to the gameplay on screen. Not just be a device to play games when the TV is in use for other purposes. Off-TV option is nice but shouldn’t be a nessesity.
Thanks for the info, I myself just want something simple and thats to just have all the games that comes out off-screen play and I’ll be happy, this is how I want to game so dont judge me for it..
We’re not judging you, we’re just stating that most people who buy a Wii U don’t buy one to play it like a Game Boy Advance or other single-screened handheld (albeit within wireless range of the console unit).
We buy it for the unique innovations offered by the GamePad (off-tv is only one of them), HD Nintendo games, and Miiverse social networking functionality (Nintendo Network all encompassing).
If I wanted to play “simple” games, I would access my Wii U’s Wii Menu UI, go to the Wii Shop Channel, browse the backlog of games I still haven’t downloaded yet, and play some good ol’ classic games that retain the same “single screen” functionality (mostly NES and SNES games as those could be heavily regarded the simplest experiences in most cases).
This is my assumption, but you come across as someone who dislikes having a dual-screened experience. Try to focus on the main screen more than the secondary one. It took me some getting used to at first. Due to my major perfectionist behavior with all things Nintendo, that was just my nature. It was like comparing the original Nintendo 3DS (something I hated because it would get a damaged top screen from the bottom screen when I left it alone in its cradle and did nothing to it for several days—making sure to clean it with a glasses-cleaning cloth daily, mind you—to the extravagant Nintendo 3DS XL. It was hard for me to let go of the original Nintendo 3DS a year ago because I wanted to finally be able to say that I started with “_” Nintendo Generation of and and own all system models, accessories, and games that I wanted for them (in other words, paid with my own money).
The point is to look past these things—don’t let it be a deciding factor.
For example, I highly doubt the new Zelda game will feature Off-TV Play if Nintendo incorporates the Wii Remote Plus + Nunchuck combo for gameplay once more. I have my cards set on a new entry that expands on Skyward Sword’s use of impressionist art style, which would work perfectly for Nintendo because then they wouldn’t have to take 4-5 years to dish out each new Zelda—we could get two-to-three Wii U Zelda games this generation alone, and I wouldn’t doubt seeing more if we manage to get sequels or spinoff games that further broaden the series’ flow through the use of the GamePad as well.
Just some stuff to consider. I hope you’re not taking me wrong. I just wanted to point out that your issue was similar to mine when I first started dual-screen gaming. :)
…of “console” and “handheld” and…forgot about what HTML tags do.
None taken, thanks though with a well typed reply, I will surely expand my gaming experience and be more open mind toward future games. :)
Sorry for being rude, but did you copy and paste this from some other site? Because the writing is so professional haven’t seen this much class on this site. Ever. haha
I can assure this comment has written by Jonathan and not taken from any other websites.
Don’t worry, you’re not being rude by asking.
Yeah, I tend to make articles as comments a lot of times. Makes sense because if it wasn’t for my Graphic Design degree, I would going into journalism (specifically for gaming-related news). Hahahaha! :)
Perhaps, I should mix the two together and start working on my own website. :P
✰Do you own a psp/ps3? Check this video YOU will not regret
That trick to steal accounts is old,be a man and hack the psn like everyone else.
Or just don’t be a cheapskate and pay for the games you download so the developers will get paid and will make more games.
What he wants is credit cards info not games.
The xbox live is better than this bullshit
Says the racist troll who pays to play games online. BTW, why is your Xbox internet browser slower than the Wii U’s internet browser?
You look like you’re lost, man. This is a Nintendo news site.
Alba,
I noticed that Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge is missing from this list. Would you be able to update that, please? :3
Users can play Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge by going to Options and changing the display from the TV to the GamePad under one of the sub-settings there (forgot which one, but it may be under Display Settings). I do admit it takes some doing to even activate the feature in the first place, and it would work better if it was explained more thoroughly by the developer. lol
Hope you see this in time! :)
Thanks!
@Alba The Rise of the Guardians Video Game also has the Off TV Play Feature
I’ve seen the movie last weak and it was funny
Ninja Gaiden 3 also has this feature in options.
Playing Arkham city in my room. Off screen play is beautiful :).
I love wiiU
you are a little bastard kid and idiot then
butt hurt that people start loving wii u and abandoning the Xbox of yours.
“You are a genius and smart kid.”
Fixed. :troll face:
Man, all those games i can play on the toilet.
I hope they have the Virtual Console up soon, and let us play the games on gamepad. Also HD updates for Gamecube games, and with off screen play. Eternal Darkness on the toilet would be fitting
And convinient.

You forgot Pkmin 3 :)
This is a confirmed list pikmin is not confirmed of having it.
Pikmin 3 is confirmed to have off screen tv play…You can play the whole game on the touchscreen. it was even announched by Miyamoto it self?!
Better than you sorry primitive nazi ass zigfried chicken
I think this is why the wiiu rocks so much! Playing blops2 onoine anywhere in my house!! Love this feature!
Off TV Play feature should only be used to designate games that you can fully play off TV…NintendoLand would not meet this criteria.
Reblogged this on hypersonic55 and commented:
So now that the Wii U is released in all major territories it would be nice to know what games are compatible with the Off TV Play feature that allows you to play goes on the Wii U GamePad without the use of your television. Luckily a list has been provided to show gamers exactly which games specifically have use the feature and thankfully there are quite a few. From Assassin’s Creed 3 to Madden 13, from New Super Mario Bros. U to Black Ops 2, from Scribblenauts Unlimited to Trine 2: Director’s Cut. There are at least 28 games in the Wii U library for you to be able to play with the use of a television screen and that is a pretty decent number of games. One of the most unique and hyped up features of the Wii U was the ability to be able to play games without the use of a TV screen and if Nintendo didn’t deliver that promise properly I know some gamers would have been pissed. While some developers have claimed that they will not be taking advantage of this feature, I am glad to see that it has been implemented into most of the Wii U games at the moment and I hope it will continue in future titles.
The fact that Monster Hunter is not on here is blasphemous.
This is a mega awesome feature to be sure but I must admit, some games use the 2 screen better than others. Case in point, New Super Mario Bros U can be played on the pad alone, but if you’re playing it on the TV whilst using the pad it kind of hurts your eyes. The 2nd screen adds nothing to the game in one player mode and just mirrors what the TV sees on a tiny delay. I actually prefer the feel of the Wii U pad to the Wii controller but find myself switching to the Wii controller just so I don’t get the two almost in sync images. At the very least, when making a system that utilizes two screens, Nintendo could have given their flagship Mario game a throwaway map screen or something on the touchpad, maybe even access to your power-up stock. Lazy lazy lazy.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 does not support off tv play! Controller shows you moves and you can’t play off tv!
I thought that ALL Wii U games could be played with only the Game Pad? I just got through telling my niece that they could. *sigh*
