You Can’t Get Club Nintendo Rewards For Wii Mode On Wii U

Wii Discs

It’s been discovered that you can’t get Club Nintendo rewards if you’re buying WiiWare or Virtual Console games through Wii Mode on the Wii U. To claim your Club Nintendo rewards you will need to purchase WiiWare or Virtual Console games on your older Wii console, if you’ve still got one. Nintendo says that this issue is caused by certain system constraints.

All Wii U games purchased on the Nintendo eShop are automatically registered to your Club Nintendo account. See the eligible products list to see what games are available for Coins. Note: Due to certain system constraints, Club Nintendo accounts cannot be linked to the Wii Shop on the Wii U. Games downloaded through the Wii Shop on the Wii U (in Wii mode) do not qualify for surveys or Coins.

    1. All I can say is email the club rewards contact and complain. Best way to get things to change, is to light a fire under customer service. Enough people complained about the whole not getting points for Nintendoland game in the deluxe package that Nintendo reversed their decision and started giving out 50 points, 7 days after you register your Wii U deluxe, to purchasers for a limited time (I think until they can get the slips in the package).

  1. I bought a few dsiware games for my DSi XL recently which is linked to my club nintendo account, as is my 3DS XL, and I didn’t see them listed on the clubnintendo page. No surveys. Pissed me off. i never had this problem before. It Sux.

    1. I have a Club Nintendo account from Argentina with no problems. The only downside is no shipping, but you can still get the downloadable games for Wii and 3DS, since they’re digital.

  2. Wow Nintendo…-_-
I don’t like the idea of Wii mode on the Wii U. I don’t like how in order to play Wii games on the Wii U, you have to open up another application to play. I don’t like how the gamepad shuts off when you go onto Wii mode. I wanna be able to play Wii games on the Wii U gamepad ( untill homebrew comes). This stuff should already be integreted into the Wii U itself. Nintendo can easily do this with the gamepad. That’s the only thing I don’t like about the Wii U.

  3. I’m not too bothered. Besides I’m not into the whole playing Wii games on Wii U (similarly to playing DS games on the 3DS) So if I buy anything from the Wii shop I will buy it on my Wii.

  4. I understand, but never the less, disappointing. They should’ve let people know about this on day one. Thankful, I kept me Wii so that I wouldn’t go through something like this.

  5. System constraints meaning Nintendo doesn’t feel it’s worthwhile to invest any real effort into making it happen. It’s clearly possible, they just don’t see the money in it. On the one hand, these issues are kind of lame, on the other hand, it doesn’t really effect me much and I’d rather see Nintendo devote resources elsewhere.

  6. I may be misinterpreting this, so please correct me. But is this saying that if I get a virtual console game from Club Nintendo with my Club Nintendo Coins, I will NOT be able to redeem it on my Wii U? Even though Im able to get the same VC game on my Wii U if I buy it straight from the Wii Shop Channel with real money?

  7. What a joke. The entire way Nintendo is handling the Wii channel is a mess. I still fire up my physical Wii rather than booting up my Wii U, waiting for the menu screen to load, clicking on the Wii channel, waiting for the system to reboot, then navigate to the shop. It’s a nightmare.

  8. This is not tru at least the dl part of it but i cant verify that surveys are not eligible. i dl mario kart 64 on wii u just before this article was released. at first i ran into a problem cause i thoyght the dl code didnt fit into the text box but a second line appeared. I dl it with no problems. to about 5 min for dl.
