Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has posted his first ever message to the Wii U social network, Miiverse. Iwata confirmed in his message that the Wii U system update is scheduled for April which will improve the time it takes to launch software, and the time it takes to return to the Wii U Menu. Iwata also announced that he would be sharing Nintendo Direct events on Miiverse. You can read Satoru Iwata’s full post below.

Hello, this is Satoru Iwata of Nintendo.

As we announced in the January Nintendo Direct, we plan to release two Wii U system updates. One in spring, and one in the summer.

Today, I would like to let you know the status of these two updates.

We are planning to release the spring system update in April, which will improve the time it takes to launch software, and the time it takes to return to the Wii U Menu.

We still have tests remaining, and it will take a little more time until we can release the update. But today, we have prepared a video so you can see how the loading time will change when returning to the Wii U Menu with the system update, so please take a look if you are interested.

In the future, we would like to share announcements about Nintendo Direct events here, so we appreciate your continued attention.

And lastly, like in other Announcement Communities, please understand that while we read every comment, we are not able to reply. Thank you.

    1. A Metal Gear Solid game is coming to Wii U. Remember the Miiverse hack? 3 games were revealed in the coding. Resident Evil but no number was given, now we know it was Revelations. Yoshi Island Wii U which is Yoshi Land U (Yarn Yoshi to you noobs), the 3rd and final one we havent seen yet was Metal Gear Solid, so its coming.

    2. Not really. I´m dissapointend with the MGS series. The last one I really enjoyed playing was Snake Eater

      1. Ah thanks,I saw it already, but i don’t own a Wii U already. Off topic but want to trade 3ds friend codes? Mine is 2449-5711-0690

      1. Actually, if you look in the Miiverse announcements, his single post IS that long on Miiverse. This is probably something only the developers can do now. They tend to have some fairly lengthy information to share, taking up several comments. This makes it much easier to read, as users don’t have to expand the comments just to see the whole post.

          1. Miiverse hack from awhile ago said Yoshi Island Wii U which was confirmed to be Yoshi Land U (Yarn Yoshi), It showed Resident Evil, which was confirmed to be Revelations. Metal Gear Solid was the 3rd game shown but we have yet to see it. A MGS game is coming to Wii U, you cant argue that.

    1. Im also curious about that. And i also want to know if GBA will come to the virtual console or not. I want to play some pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emrald! I need SOME pokemon RPG!

        1. He did!?!?! Oh snap, if they put a pokemon ruby game on the virtual console it would be an instant buy. Hopefully the virtual console will come soon! or hopefully at least another nintendo direct focused on the wii u

    1. It’s impossible for the Gamepad to have any data actually on it.
Hell, maybe I’m wrong though, that’d be nice if I was!

  1. I still believe that we will get a Nintendo Direct sometime in April with more info on system updates, Miiverse on 3DS/Smart phones, the virtual console, and release dates for Wii Fit U, Game and Wario, Wonderful 101, and Pikmin 3, all releasing between April-May.

      1. I think that Smash Bros 3D is going to be saved for E3, along with the Wii U version. Although, it could be shown earlier if it releases earlier, but I would only want that if the 3DS version has exclusive content.

    1. More like May-August. April already has games announced (Last Ranger & Chase begins). If a major Wii U game was hitting in April, we would have known with the last quarterly games list.

  2. The Wii U is looking great. I am going to get one as soon as possible. Although, I am not in a rush, since there is not much content out there to make me buy one fast. However, as soon as I get the money, I will buy it. I do hope for great games to be announced and more support for the Wii U. :)

    1. Dude Lego City alone is possibly worth it let alone mario U and sonic racing (unless you have it on another system) and monster hunter. I’m loving lego city so far its fun as hell lol. But if you don’t have the funds its totally understandable. I think there are a few other great games I have for it but I can’t stop thinking about lego city at the moment lol.
