Ubisoft Says Gamers Want A New Assassin’s Creed Game Every Year

AC4BF_PC_4PACKSHOTS_FINAL.indd

Ubisoft Montreal boss Yannis Mallat firmly believes that gamers want a new Assassin’s Creed game every year. Mallat says that consumers will tell the company once they have had enough of the popular franchise, but he doesn’t see that day coming. Ubisoft say that they have plenty of high quality content for future Assassin’s Creed games and he doesn’t envision that changing. Here’s what he had to say.

“No. The players will tell us. Right now there are more and more coming into the franchise, so I don’t see that day.”

“It’s our breakthrough. When you have quality content, the frequency of coming out with the game is not an issue at all. On the contrary, people expect more and more of that content. So it’s natural to be able to provide that content. The gamers are happy and it’s our job to make them happy.”

    1. Generally, with the normal gamer, and the drought of decent games that has been around for a while now, I’m not surprised actually. There are lots of people really into the AC games. Maybe 1 per year might be a bit excessive though.

    2. They’re seriously delusional if they think or believe everyone wants a Assassin Creed game every year.

  1. I don’t want that… I want a complete game and a game that actually takes time.
Not a game rushed on one day.

    1. They said nothing about rushing the game. I am sure they take the time to come out with quality titles. They are probably working on Assasin’s Creed 5 and 6 as we speak!!!

      1. They said nothing about rushing it indeed, but that will de facto be the consequense if they stick to releasing one per year.

  2. First?
And IMO, the more titles in a short amount of time, the less it will remain “high quality.”

      1. Well, you were the first one to type first, if that’s any consolation. lol

  3. Lmao this is how they justify milking the franchise. All I hear in the statement is blah, blah, blah, we want all your money, blah blah blah.. I only ever played assassins creed one and three. For some reason the gameplay just feels dull to me

    1. Well the fans want what the fans want. You call it “milking” Ubisoft and Assasin’s Creed fans call it simply “coming out with a new game.”

      1. I am a Assassin Creed fan, but this franchise is starting to get milked.

      1. I agree, a lot of thought and work is put into most Zelda games. They go through a lot of ideas and scrap some mediocre or bad ones over that period. Only one year would screw that over entirely.

  4. Your Jedi mind tricks won’t work on us Darth Mallat! You have been corrupted by EA I see…

  5. They keep bragging about ”triple A” this and that. But if you make a game in 1.5 years. It’s not gunna get a Tripple A score is it….

    1. Who says they are making the game in 1.5 years. And who says a quality game can’t be made in that time? Technology has improved over the years. Videogames can be made dramatically faster now-a-days. Fast enough to easily come out in “1.5 years” and still be AAA quality.

      1. Yeah. And Assassins creed games are great. AC3 was great . but it felt rushed the way the game was paced and all the bugs. With an extra year of development the game could of been astonishing and not forgettable but pretty good like it turned out.

    2. Not necessarily. I don’t want it to become “milked” but I do remember a great game that was developed in a year, which is my personal favorite of its series. Majoras Mask anyone?

      1. that is the most clever and fresh, different in the whole series and dark. if it was 2 – 3 years it would of by far past ocarina of time i think, but they wanted to do windwaker and cut it short, and that game was cut short too

  6. You know you’re milking a franchise when you start work on a sequel before the prequel comes out.

    1. No where in the definition of “milking” does it say that it is a bad thing. Fans want what fans want…

      1. Love how people are complaining now just because Ubisoft issues a statement.
        Assasin’s Creed: 2007
        Assasin’s Creed Altairs Cronicles: 2008
        Assasin’s Creed Bloodlines: 2009
        Assasin’s Creed II: 2009
        Assasin’s Creed II Discovery: 2009
        Assasin’s Creed Project Legacy: 2010
        Assasin’s Creed Brotherhood: 2010
        Assasin’s Creed Revelations: 2011…
An Assasin’s Creed game was released every year all the way up to Assasin’s Creed Black flag. Why are people complaining now? It has been this way since the franchise began!!!! It is just the way it is.

      2. I ain’t complaining, and i have always called it(three games at one year was they time where i thought that) what it was the same way i thought of the new mario series was being milked.

  7. That doesn’t mean they should make one very year. The last thing we need is another franchise being milked into a stale pile of death.

    1. While Assassin’s Creed isn’t getting a rest, they are making a creative game. It’s called Watch Dogs.

      1. You mean Ubisoft Montreal? Yeah, they’re the main developer behind both Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs. They are getting help from other Ubisoft studios though.

    2. Yeah, Call of Duty has a new game every year and it’s probably the most uninspired or creative game series at the moment.

  8. This guy Mallat is stupid. This franchise is killing itself. It’s unoriginal and redundant.

  9. I’m pretty sure REAL gamers don’t want rushed pieces of garbage. If they just rush the Assassin’s Creed games, it’s going to quickly become as hated as Call of Duty.

    1. The fanbase is a big reason as to why CoD is bashed. The Ass Creed fanbase seems a lot less dickish

  10. I guess they’re hoping it will be as popular as COD and sell a lot every year. It’s a good move I guess but remember what happened to Guitar Hero?

    1. CoD will probably be doing a Guitar Hero soon, which should hopefully show Ubisoft and Activision.

They’d probably still do it though.

  11. Ubisofts horrible excuse for milking the franchise as much as possible. I have no problem with bi-annual releases, but a game every year? Just no.

    1. That’s true coming from a consumer/gamer standpoint. But remember this is a huge business their running. As long as it sells they will keep making them until everyone finally stops buying it regardless of story and quality etc.

  12. They need to stop making F-Zero and Starfox every year nobody wants that shit why am I crying.

  13. Everything we have heard up to this point from mostly the western population only points into what seems to be an elaborate plot to destroy our Empire…

I don’t care if they call their games AAA titles or other mainstream brainwashing marketing nonsense…

Making a new game or more every year from the same series is nothing more than an attempt to steal money from specially the mindless slaves who belongs to the Microsoft Realm and Sony Dominion…

    1. You really need someone to beat some sense into you. Seriously. You’re as bad as every other fanboy and as bad as xbots and sonydrones.

    1. If you have played all the games since the begining you would know at least one was released every year anyway… You should know seeing as you bought them.

      1. right because smg1&2 nsmb mario kart and mario party all play the same…. wii was the 1st time since nes that we got more then 2 mario platformers on the same console.

  14. If I sound like the biggest ass ever now please consider I have the worst headache I have had in over 2 weeks now and the worst headache ever when I actually type something:

I want a Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Party, Donkey Kong, Dragon Quest, Kirby game each year atleast. I do also want it to always be cloudy outside so I do not need to see the fucking sun that gives me a headache each and every time I am outside for longer than one hour. I do also want the world to be ruled by cats because they are cute. I would also want the whole world to play the same games as they do in Japan because then it would be more profitable to do real games. I would also want to rule the world with the cats.

Would it be good if all of these things came throug? No, because humans are stupid ***** who do not know anything about what is best for them in the long run. Sure, they can release one Assassin’s Creed game each year, but do not expect it to be as good as a game they work 3 years on. The consequense will be that the game will end up worse than it could’ve been.

  15. i been saying ac is the new cod since the 3rd game came out after they already had 3 games… now they are working on 2 more…. video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash video game crash

      1. It is not just Assassin’s Creed but the trend the industry follows.

A foolish man shall answer a question with no respect and with an air of iniquitous arrogance – Mark Rein : Epic

Quote: The Wii U cannot run the unreal 4 engine.

Day 2 Quote : The Wii U can run a scaled version of unreal engine 4 = Pachter school of trolls pioneer graduate.

    1. The Wii U can and will eventually run Unreal Engine 4, they’re just using it as an scapegoat right now, kind of like Rayman Legends.

    1. Ahm, considering there’s only been four 2D Mario games since 2006 (7 years) I have to say, no.

      1. You must remember most Nintendo haters don’t use logic. They just swallow shit like sheep and watch idiots such as Blackb0nd and Nxtgen 720, and swallow all the bullshit that comes out of their mouths. Like good little sheep that they are.

  17. This would be like if Nintendo were to milk a new Zelda game every year. Exploratory open-world games like Zelda and AC need time and effort to grow into the quality standard that both respective series are supposed to live up to. ACIII was my first AC game ever and I thought it was good, but felt it could have used more polish and time to make the game a bit longer in length. Nintendo usually gets the idea right when it comes to limiting how many Zelda games come out in a certain time period and sometimes delaying them to give them further polish to reach the best potential. Ubisoft on the other hand, I think needs to slow down with the AC series or it’ll just end up going the way of Guitar Hero.

  18. It’s true. Assassin’s Creed fans are turning into greedy little fanboys like Call of Duty fans to where they want Assassin’s Creed each year. I don’t help the problem much though since I buy Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, and New Super Mario Bros. on launch days.

      1. Well maybe I should have said Mario in general:
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2009)
        Super Mario Galaxy 2 (2010)
        Super Mario 3D Land (2011)
        New Super Mario Bros. 2 +U (2012)
        3D Super Mario U (possibly 2013)

  19. Hey Yannis! Contact me and I’ll give Ubisoft my billion $ game idea. A game that only you can make. Thank you for caring. Maybe Alba will give you my contact info.

  20. From what I’ve seen so far, Assassin’s Creed 4 is quite amazing. I’ve played the first (I think 15 minutes) of gameplay from a demo I’ve found. I’ve even played through a complete sea-fight. If anyone else is interested, here’s the webpage
    http://lootspace.hostavo.com/ac4demo
(takes a few minutes to go through the steps, but totally worth it).
