Ubisoft Montreal boss Yannis Mallat firmly believes that gamers want a new Assassin’s Creed game every year. Mallat says that consumers will tell the company once they have had enough of the popular franchise, but he doesn’t see that day coming. Ubisoft say that they have plenty of high quality content for future Assassin’s Creed games and he doesn’t envision that changing. Here’s what he had to say.
“No. The players will tell us. Right now there are more and more coming into the franchise, so I don’t see that day.”
“It’s our breakthrough. When you have quality content, the frequency of coming out with the game is not an issue at all. On the contrary, people expect more and more of that content. So it’s natural to be able to provide that content. The gamers are happy and it’s our job to make them happy.”

Generally, with the normal gamer, and the drought of decent games that has been around for a while now, I’m not surprised actually. There are lots of people really into the AC games. Maybe 1 per year might be a bit excessive though.

I agree, a lot of thought and work is put into most Zelda games. They go through a lot of ideas and scrap some mediocre or bad ones over that period. Only one year would screw that over entirely.

Who says they are making the game in 1.5 years. And who says a quality game can’t be made in that time? Technology has improved over the years. Videogames can be made dramatically faster now-a-days. Fast enough to easily come out in “1.5 years” and still be AAA quality.

Yeah. And Assassins creed games are great. AC3 was great . but it felt rushed the way the game was paced and all the bugs. With an extra year of development the game could of been astonishing and not forgettable but pretty good like it turned out.

that is the most clever and fresh, different in the whole series and dark. if it was 2 – 3 years it would of by far past ocarina of time i think, but they wanted to do windwaker and cut it short, and that game was cut short too

I want a Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Party, Donkey Kong, Dragon Quest, Kirby game each year atleast. I do also want it to always be cloudy outside so I do not need to see the fucking sun that gives me a headache each and every time I am outside for longer than one hour. I do also want the world to be ruled by cats because they are cute. I would also want the whole world to play the same games as they do in Japan because then it would be more profitable to do real games. I would also want to rule the world with the cats.

This would be like if Nintendo were to milk a new Zelda game every year. Exploratory open-world games like Zelda and AC need time and effort to grow into the quality standard that both respective series are supposed to live up to. ACIII was my first AC game ever and I thought it was good, but felt it could have used more polish and time to make the game a bit longer in length. Nintendo usually gets the idea right when it comes to limiting how many Zelda games come out in a certain time period and sometimes delaying them to give them further polish to reach the best potential. Ubisoft on the other hand, I think needs to slow down with the AC series or it’ll just end up going the way of Guitar Hero.

From what I’ve seen so far, Assassin’s Creed 4 is quite amazing. I’ve played the first (I think 15 minutes) of gameplay from a demo I’ve found. I’ve even played through a complete sea-fight. If anyone else is interested, here’s the webpage
