EA announced today that it is currently developing a new Need for Speed game which is titled Need for Speed: Rivals. The company has told Eurogamer that the game won’t be coming to the Wii U. EA says that the reason behind this decision is that the impressive Frostbite engine isn’t really set up for Wii U. Need for Speed Rivals will come to current generation platforms on November 19th. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are will be coming sometime later this year.
“Yeah, Frostbite is not really set up for Wii U. I don’t have all the information, so it wouldn’t be right for me to speak about it. Frostbite 3 is a really capable engine, it’s scalable and it gives us a big advantage on the next generation to support the Xbox One and the PS4, but it’s not being developed on the Wii U.”

Think about this for a moment. All future EA titles will be Frostbite, except for Sports. However EA has confirmed one by one that none of the sports titles will be coming to Wii U. However EA has also said that they are indeed making Wii U games. So if its not sports titles, then it has to be something, and that something else can only be Frostbite games. So saying Frostbite isn’t on Wii U is directly contradicting the fact that they are making Wii U games.
Now, since they’re putting out games, why not just say what they are? They can’t, because they haven’t been announced yet. In other words, the games that are coming to the platform are almost certainly the Star Wars games (all of which are Frostbite 3). Disney likes Nintendo, and they like the Wii U, otherwise they wouldn’t be putting Infinity or a Nintendo exclusive game on there. The contract EA signed to get the SW rights likely either included a stipulation that Disney has the final say on which platforms the games can be on (in other words, they could force EA to cancel all the other versions and only put it on Wii U – which would be humiliating). The other possibility is that EA must put it on the Nintendo consoles in some capacity.
The reason why they backpedaled so badly is because there is basically no communication at EA. A spokesperson said there are no Wii U games coming out, and another employee openly bashed the console and called it crap. Its likely that the CFO (who said there are games coming), only found out about this a few days ago, and also probably got angry calls from Disney and/or NIntendo about the blatant disrespect of both the company and the system.
