New Super Mario Bros U Patch Coming With Pro Controller Support Added

Nintendo has announced that it is bringing out another New Super Mario Bros U patch, but this time it includes support for the Wii U Pro Controller. The patch is expected to arrive around the same time as New Super Luigi U – which is the downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros U. The patch also allows you to purchase New Super Luigi U within New Super Mario Bros U, so you don’t need to go to the eShop to purchase it.

Thanks,  Nintedward

    1. If you want to talk about “knockoffs” look at the original Xbox controller. Can someone “copy and paste” of the Sega DreamCast controller?

    2. Pretty sure every controller is a knock off of another by now. Controllers are naturally designed, but specific features are licensed, like button placements, the tech behind the buttons, and analogs, even rumble, and of course the the fact Nintendo has the only good d-pad.

      1. Had the only good d-pad.
Patent has expired, so Microsoft is blatantly going to copy d-pad, and not even trying to hide it.

      2. Yeh but Xbox invented off set analog sticks *cough Gamecube cough* . I mean Xbox invented analog triggers!!! cough dreamcast cough …

    3. It’s a gaming controller so their really isin’t that many different designs. And Microsoft practically copied Nintendo with its business ideas (Kinect for example)

    4. NO. The Xbox 360 controller has the EXACT SAME button placement as the Nintendo GameCube controller. So Microsoft copied Nintendo. As with the Pro Controller, the only thing similar about them is their wingspan design.

    5. Ignoring that every new generation console from Nintendo are different. Yet the dual shock is new different than PS1.

    6. lolwat? If that’s an “Xbox 360 controller knock off” then the Xbox 360 controller is a “SNES controller knock off” because all the pro controller is, is a SNES controller with analog stick tacked on. Microsoft didn’t invent the analog stick. o.0

Maybe you’re just trolling or extremely good at sarcasm (bad?). Surely an “Xbot” wouldn’t be reading a NINTENDO blog/news site.

      1. Was Nintendo first to use analog thumb operated stick?
Though N64 was digital, but still, the same thing.

Atari was the very first stick user.

        1. Nintendo was first to use analog, yes. And no, the N64’s control stick/thumb stick was analog. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have variations in precision and walking speed.

            Claims it to be digital.
“The new controller included a thumb-operated control stick which, while a digital stick[9] (the stick operated on the same principles as a mechanical computer mouse), still allowed for varying levels of movement and near-360-degree control, translating into far more precise movements than were possible with a D-pad.”
I know its wikipedia, so pretty much any numnut could have written it, but I havent spent my time on investigating it.

And technically, first analog stick was on some atari, but first thumb stick was in N64, if I got it right.

            1. No, the Atari sticks were digital. Only had 4 and 8 way directional sticks and the same for the Saturn. Nothing more than a d-pad with a stick on it.

          2. The sega saturn had an analog stick for their nights game.So I think they were first? But nintendo was the first to get it right. Then sony perfected it with dual sticks.

            1. Idd sega was early. I belive there was a dual analog controller for the Ps1 where u had an additinal button to turn em on or off. I might remember wrong on some of the details due.

    7. Did you not notice the placement of the thumbsticks?

Besides, the D-Pad on Nintendo controllers is vastly superior to anything Sony or Microsoft has released.

    8. …is it really possible to rip off a design that is not only incredibly generic but was also built based on an already established industry standard?

    9. Gits don't know shit

Listen you five year old fuck tard, xbox stole their controller designs from everyone and nintendo just took what was stolen from them in the first place and made it better. xbox controllers suck. Go study for your spelling test loser.

    10. The SNES controller says hello. You should have paid attention in history class dummy. History class not onlt teaches historical facts, but a searching mind for origins. Now go buy a SNES and controllers and be educated.

    11. Well, technically speaking, Nintendo did have the two shoulders, start, back, and four faces first. Then, they also had the first true analog stick. So, yeah, ergonomics kinds of demand a certain design. Also to note, Micrsoft group tested the original controller for the XBox, found people preferred the Dreamcast controller, and then copied it.

  1. That’s pretty cool. Still won’t be buying the game, though. I thought it was silly you needed to have the GamePad screen on wasting battery when you weren’t even looking at it.

    1. Pitfall near your door

You could keep the Gamepad on charge if your not using it, also there is an option to turn the screen on the gamepad off.

  2. I prefer the gamepad but I thought it was very stupid that you couldn’t use the pro controller.

  3. Make note of the fact that the controller pictured doesn’t function as a Wii U Pro Controller, and instead functions as a Wii Classic Controller Pro with the Remote built in. So it should actually function fine prior to this patch. I can’t say if this is certain, as I don’t own one.

    1. No probs ;) . I’ve been wanting this so much since it came out. I don’t like holding a Wii remote sideways to play… the pro controler is much much comfier.

    1. I agree, the game controls so beautifully with the Wii U gamepad. Yet you have to use the Wii remotes when you want to play with more then one person!

  4. Oh my god, yeessssss, now i can actually play and enjoy the game in co-op and not buy fucking batteries

    1. Great news! It was my biggest problem with game. Just in time for NSLU also. The gamepad is fine , but being forced to use a wii mote sideways on coop sucks…

  5. Hilarious how late the pro controller support actually is, happy its coming but come on its very late now

  10. Bought Wii U, one wiimote, pro controller and this game.
At home I discover, that I need another wiimote to play nsmbu multiplayer.
But I guess if theres ever a third player, then we might have use for this.

  12. That one pictured is a monstrosity. It’s not an actual Pro controller. It’s a Wii remote with a classic controller plugged into it. A friend of mine picked it up since it was a bit cheaper, and he didn’t have Wii remotes either. That’s when we found it wasn’t near the same.

  14. I’m on the fence about getting that controller, but man I love that look. I already have one Wii U Pro controller though.

Good job to everyone explaining every aspect of why “ness” doesn’t know what he is talking about, by the way.

    1. Gameinformer did a reveiw of the game pad pictured and gave it a low score due to the fact the d-pad it shitty and is so bad it’s a deal breaker.Plus it won’t work on wii u games like Darksiders & A.C.

    2. Oh and coming from my 30 years + gaming.NEVER BUY 3RD PARTY CONTROLLERS!Because it may work when you buy it.But it never ends well.

    1. I can’t imagine anyone being stupid enough to chose not to have that Controller option. The Pro Controller is probably my favorite gaming controller. I even like it more than the GameCube one, so I can’t wait to use it for SSB! :D
