Smash Bros designer Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that tripping will no longer feature in Smash Bros. Tripping, which is when the character runs, stumbles, falls, and is temporarily stunned, is gone in the new Smash Bros for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. When asked whether the bothersome feature will return for the new Smash Bros game, Sakurai said “To answer quite frankly, it will not return.”
Good i gess
Considering how much it ruined the flow in Brawl, tripping being gone will make things better.
I hope it’s not to floaty like Brawl is.
It’s a mix between Brawl and Melee.
YES!!!
Thank you Sakurai for removing that awful mechanic.
all nerds on the internet rejoice
absolutely! is it sad that i’ve been waiting for this statement most of all?
Not at all. This is the best news to me too.
Seriously, thank you.
Simply where you able to see watch dogs runing on wiiu? Or the next best thing oddworld in wiiu?
indeed
This guy knows.
YES
Any video example for this? Does Melee has this? ._. I haven’t noticed..
It was just a thing in Brawl. Players would randomly trip, screwing up anything they were planning to do and leaving themselves wide open
It was a balancing answer to wave-dashing from melee. While it was hard to do for most people, most pros could perform it flawlessly and it made the player impossible to hit.
It was only a feature on Brawl.

Thank you guys for explain this.
I didn’t knew it was only featured in Brawl. The “technique” looks…”cute”, but for a fighter like Smash i don’t see the point.
I’m wondering after seeing this, if they could make a way to Active/De-active “techniques” like this in future games in the Options mode. Maybe some people like stuff like this, but if your playing with your friends, maybe you want to de-activated “moves” like that. What do you think?
The point of tripping was to enforce a luck-based mechanic on Smash Bros players- specifically targeting the ‘hard-core tournament-level’ players from Melee. Sakurai wanted to make Smash Bros a gateway game into the fighting community- he wanted to make it easy for new players to get into it without having the top-level players crushing them like the ‘No-items Final Destination Fox-Only’ mentality in Melee.
Tripping was meant to force what the items represented- luck.
HI
Thank GOD
YES!
Everyone happy? Good. I am too.
kotaku isn’t a reliable source, but i’m sure Sakurai took it out anyway
Free at last~
Free at last~
Happy
Yes Yes Yes!
boi this game is beautiful
Yaaaaaaaaay! :D
…There was tripping in Smash Bros?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amq0KhRleDQ
brawl only
Oh man that would be totally lame. XD Pretty funny though.
Hahaha so damn cruel!
Yes, it was a common enough problem, mainly occured when you tried to start a sprint
People can shut up about it
LOL XD That’s how I feel like.

Thank god!
how are you
Does that also include the intentional tripping? Like with diddy kong’s bananas? I know some people that used diddy and part of their strategy involved the bananas
That’s an item so it’s probably going to stay or be replaced. I think there was a specific banana item, too (get it from containers; not from Diddy Kong).
Why did the mechanism even exist?
Hahahaha… I hacked my wii just to stop tripping on Brawl xD This is great!
i prayed death to that mechanism. = [)
I dont remember tripping but by the looks of it Im glad its out
No one notices that mario is punching bowser in the testicles?
I didn’t really mind it. It seemed like a fun feature that made it a bit more realistic (although realism really has no place in this game lol). I never actually noticed it enough to care, or wasn’t bothered enough to rage.
I don’t even remember this “tripping” in Brawl. I can tell I haven’t played it in a LONG time.
Is it sad that this upsets me?
Random trips shouldn’t be as big a thing as they were, but I don’t think it should go away completely: they were just as likely to operate in your favor as against you! Maybe for slippery or icy floors, or even tripping on items that you run by without picking up.
Thats why people don’t want it. Because in order for the game to be competitive all “luck” has to be extinguished and only “skill” shall allow you to win. Tripping is not something you can control. 💋
Totally agree, I kinda hope that items must be on, but I know it will be an option
They’re fooling themselves. Even in a Fox-on-Falco no-items Final Destination stock match, you can still just plain get lucky.
Neither is your opponent, though.
There’s an element of luck in guessing what your opponent is going to do next, when planning an effective counter.
I’ve never once seen any “pro” player admit it, though. I guess just the WORD Luck is offensive to some elitists…
Except trying to be competitive in a PARTY GAME is dumb as hell. Competitive Smash players just want to feel superior without putting any effort into real competitive fighting games like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.
Will what about banana peels? I can still trip tye my rivals right? it was a strategy i used in Braw in order to whip ass!!!
I would think so. Random tripping is luck based while banana peel tripping is skill based. Its all about what works competitively. 💋
Good.
Look at his face, he looks miserable playing the POS Vita.
Only adds to the competitive aspect of the game! Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS are looking to be the best in the franchise and probably the best game of all time!!! 💋
I’m pretty glad that they’re taking the tripping out. It wasn’t a great feature and while it was funny the first time, it definitely gets old fast
ALELUYA!
This is something we should celebrate.
thank fucking lord. hate that shit.
Good!
Was the least he could do…
I suppose this is a good thing. It never bothered me.
tripping did bother me but not much, yes it does get annoying if it keeps doing it constantly but if its in moderation then its ok
