Nintendo has released another system update for the Wii U console. The update – version 3.1.0 U – is available via wireless Internet connection and brings a couple of improvements, which are listed below. Furthermore, Nintendo has confirmed that “a system update providing further additions to system functionality is planned for release between the end of September and beginning of October.”
Version 3.1.0 U includes the following improvements:
Improvements to Standby Functions:
- The standby functions will now regularly connect to the Internet when the Wii U is powered down to check for available SpotPass data or software and system updates. Software updates will be installed while the Wii U is powered down, and system updates will be installed the next time the Wii U is powered on. For further detailed information, click here.
Improvements to system stability and usability:
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

This happened to me too, to the point I thought I had a defective WiiU. So I called NIntendo. They had me delete all the software updates for my games: New Mario, Darksiders 2, etc. Reboot. Redownload updates. Haven’t had the problem since.

June, July, August is Summer. September, October, November is Fall. December, January, February is Winter. March, April, May is Spring. You always here people say going back to school in the Fall…not Summer.
But technically most of September is still part of summer. My college starts in the Fall because it starts at the very end of September. High school was always very early September for me here. Many other schools start in August as well. This year summer ends on the 21st of September.
Summer officially ends Sept 21 and fall begins Sept 22. Winter begins December 21.

The update I am REALLY anticipating is the one that’ll get Nintendo Network ID’s unified. I’d like to say that as soon as Nintendo gets accounts unified, their online service will be on par or even BETTER than Playstation Network and Xbox Live. Afterall, with Nintendo Network, you have:
-Free Online
-Miiverse
-Club Nintendo which has offers just as good as the ones on Live and PSN
-The Deluxe Set Digital Promotion
-A well monitored and decent community (no cussing, effective censorship)
The only thing Sony and Microsoft have going for is their achievement system which is even in some ways outclassed by Miiverse, and some people don’t even like achievements. Once Nintendo gets NNID’s ironed and finds away for people to share accounts between multiple consoles, I could say that Nintendo’s service would be better.

I think this is the promised summer update which adds more speed. I noticed most of the application load into the application immediately and only sit on game screen for only a second or two. Wii TV now loads much quick and was into in within seconds, which took almost 10 seconds before.
It also seems to fix the frame jumps which look like a loss of connection in Virtual Console games.
So I wonder what they have planned for fall.
