Tesco Could Be Next To Drop Wii U, Specialist Games Retail Supports Console

wii_u_premium_pack

We’ve already heard  that both Asda and Morrisons are discontinuing selling Wii U in their store, but it seems as though the leading UK supermarket Tesco could be next. The retailer warned MCV that  it will only support it “to the levels that its market performance dictates.” In better news, specialist video game retailers will continue to stock the console and they hope that sales will improve heading into the Christmas period.

      1. Highly doubtful…

The Targets don’t even know what they are selling, A french analyst writes to “Mr.Nintendo” whoever that is and worst of all the western gaming community completely ignores the positive news about our Empire…

        That’s a declaration of war right there…

    1. Asda is still selling Wii U’s through their Asda Direct website…so its not as if theyve completely abandoned it, they just arent selling it in the shops

  1. Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s, the other large supermarket chain, is supporting the system, as are the specialist retailers, though where are the mentions of those in this article?

    1. But Sainsbury’s might drop it because it’s not selling at their stores and the games aren’t selling either.
The reason over charging of the console compared to other stores,£45 for zombi U I mean really

    1. It probably does happen to the Vita, but seeing as this is a my NINTENDO news site, of course you won’t hear a lot about SONY products.

      1. You don’t hear much or anything at all about supermarkets or gaming retailers that stops selling PS Vitas either…

  2. Its because Sony does not only sell gaming devices while nintendo does. Sony has a stronger levaregge point

  3. eh.. once sales pick up again they’ll restock

    this doesn’t really matter

as long as there’s still at least a handful of retailers left with wii Us in stock it makes absolutely no difference

people who want to buy a wii U will get it

  4. What a terrible marketing idea to sell a video game system in a “supermarket”
If that is what I conceive of it as it is in the U.S. than that is just dumb to have any system in a supermarket

    But I don’t care anyway

  5. Shits just weird to me over seas. I was on my first European tour with my band in ’04 & we stopped at a Shell Station, went in & they had sex toys out in full display. You can get gas, grab a Pepsi & a big rubber fist in one stop! So selling Wii U at a Super Market is no shocker. Lol…

      1. That’s cool, no worries. I see nothing wrong with that. It was culture shock for sure though, but most definitely awesome!

And hell, the more readily available the Wii U is for the consumer, the better. The more they see it, the more they’ll think about it, the more likely they’ll buy it!

  6. What’s up with all of these UK stores discontinuing selling the Wii U? It hasn’t even been a full year since it released. And the GOOD games are just NOW about to start coming out (which already started with Pikmin 3).

      1. if you were a retailer, and constantly have overstock on a product that doesn’t sell, you’d be a fool to keep stocking it.

the latest fact is that the wiiu doesn’t bring in the money, and that’s enough for certain retailers to shut it down for now.

        1. Well I can agree with that, however selling a product with the wrong picture like Target had, I see no point in…

But you do have an excellent point…

  7. Well, they stop selling the WiiU because apparently, people in the UK doesn’t know about gaming, just take a look at the top selling titles charts. just give them Xboxs and Fifa….

  8. Ok.. is nintendo of europe on weed..
It is not good at all if the shops drop support for a system so early in its life…
Nintendo has to take an initiative to make things right before its too late

      1. U know whats funny these stores say that the wii u isnt selling but tbe wii u has already moved 80 thousand wii us in japan by itself im betting that the wii u is gna sell about 600 thousand all together which will be a significant improvement from last quarter

        1. you know whats funny

sega dreamcast (japan) did better then wiiu at this point.

          that wasnt funny…wait wut? o.O

  9. there is just no knowledge in UK about wii U. if it is only going to be found in specialty stores, its pretty much dead in the casual markets, Nintendos BIGGEST market :/
