Nintendo has released a new system update for the Nintendo 3DS. Version 6.2.0-12U brings StreetPass Relay Points to the handheld. This new service allows for 3DS users to StreetPass with other users at Nintendo Zones even if they’re not there at the same time, according to Nintendo. Nintendo hopes the new feature will make it easier for 3DS players in the West to StreetPass with other players. To learn more about StreetPass Relay Points, click here.

Just got it, Hope it works at the local best buy!
It should!
These type of features are really built for Japan. Everyone has a handheld and everyone’s carrying it with them on the street there. Still, I’m going to take my 3DS with me more places now. I’m sure I’ll find some spots. =p
It seems to be handheld update day. Both my Vita and 3DS got updates with new features. :D
If western gamers weren’t ashamed about bringing their 3DS or any other handheld out with them then we would all get more Spotpasses…
Western people are so boring, not all ofcourse…
The only things they are not ashamed for are things that you should be ashamed for…
Like screwing around like animals, drinking over the limits, fighting like apes and so on…
I don’t see how anyone with a sane mind can enjoy these things…
*Streetpass…
Speaking of “a sane mind”….
Not sure how a sane person can think that “Western People” are cool with fucking animals, seeing as how it’s illegal in every state in the US and I’ll take a shot in the dark and say in Canada and probably Mexico too.
“Fighting like apes”? Every country in the history of man has fought. Most have some form of recreational combat sport or historically important combat tradition (i.e. samurai).
[sarcasm] I do appreciate the attempt at showing how open-minded and non-bigoted towards Westerners you are with your “Western people are so boring, not all of course…”. Thanks for that. [/sarcasm]
Also, why so many ellipses? Ellipses imply incomplete thoughts (which honestly, your whole comment is an incomplete thought). You act like they’re periods which state the sentence is finished, finished, finished.
With five little stanzas of misguided sweeping generalizations, you managed to look far worse than the people you’re insulting. [sarcasm] Congratulations! [/sarcasm]
Obviously you don’t understand yet how I write in this site and what I mean, it’s no problem though…
Dont you mean that this feature is built for the US? As you said, there are plenty of people out in the streets of Japan streetpassin’ each other. Given the sales of the 3DS, its obvious they are out there, just maybe not at the same time. This feature was built with the US in mind.
Streetpass was more suited for Japan due to it’s population density. As you said, Alba, this IS designed for those of us in the west. It allows us to street pass without actually being in the same place at the same time. This was designed for places outside Japan as we were having trouble passing each other. (more or less as you said.). Well played. ;)
Pretty cool actually. Now all we need is Miiverse on 3DS.
Exactly. It’s supposed to be out this year. wtf
I want miiverse on 3ds already!
We have to have patience, it is coming later this year if memory serves me right…
Great! I was waiting for it to come
Get outta here Cryback.
yeah… mark henry will destroy you!!!!! if wrestling didnt suck mark would be champion, worlds best heel.
Worlds best heel? Try CM Punk
no cm punk is good but not the best heel there is. mark henry just plays a really good one, a threat, the boss, really underrated. brock lesner is pretty good at it too. id say those are the best ones right now. seriously though wrestling is so bad now, ill maybe watch 10 minutes of raw each week and maybe find an online paperview, since there like pretty good usually.
Well, I got no Nintendo Zone hotspot near me… Wish we could do that at home, if we name our routers like hotspots (_The Cloud, Bestbuy etc). :(
Wait, you got no mcdonald’s, burger king, wendy’s, or any other at&t retailer? Even starbucks has the nintendo zone…your not near any of those?
We got a Mc D here, but it’s not listed on the hotspot finder. (I’m from Germany btw and I don’t think ANY Mc D got that here, lol)
I doubt Norway got any spots either.
I suppose Nintendo doesn’t love Europe (save the UK) :/
Huh, that’s odd…Mc D’s is suppost to hold AT&T hotspot serives…maybe that’s only here in america…well, you got a nintendo zone app right? I should tell you if you got one near by your location and where they are held.
Sweet deal!! I’ll be looking forward to it the next time I’m in town when I get my 3ds back or replace it!
Does Sweden even have one of these zones?, because if it doesn’t it doesn’t help me one bit…
Ask nintendo europe they should easily answer your question
MacDonalds in Europe are Nintendo Zones.
I’ll ask them then…
Same here in America too. McDonald’s or any other location marked as a Nintendo Zone. Even Starbucks which is next to most gamestops are Nintendo Zones just like best buy and other retailers.
Is it the whole US area or just some selected cities and states?,,,
Yes? I think, no maybe? Well, in fact, North America is the United States…so…all 50 states make up our country. That’s alot of counties, cities and towns. From the north reaching canada to the south reaching mexico to the east and west reaching both oceans. The U.S. is pretty big.
I know how the US looks like and is made up by etc etc…
Canada is NA too…
Infact the whole “Central America” officially still belongs to NA so it’s not just the US and Canada…
Oh…uh…well…ok, so you know but no, its not selected cities or towns.
Ok thanks…
Just curious, am I the only american here?
I doubt it…
Mammajynx is american and so is Anubis…
Yea since me and Nintendo Commander argue with Anubis and Mammajynx about history. That’s how we know where we are from.
You’re from Sweden?! I’d never have guessed :D *brofist from fellow Scandinavian*
Yes, you too?…
These human interactions are a bit unfamiliar to me but *Brofist*…
*Norway actually. But I got a couple friends who are Swedish, and I don’t live far from the border :P
Nice…
Hope you live far away from that Breivik ape…
I don’t live near the border unfortunately…
But atleast I live near Denmark to travel there anytime I want…
Even to this day the Media is still occasionally writing articles about that idiot…
I live in a place most south-east of Norway, so about 45min to the border of Sweden, and maybe 3 hours(?) from Göteborg, just to give you an idea of where I live :P
I hate these countries…
“human rights” to insane apes…
Take away everything from him and let him live on a tiny room with barely any food every day…
Oh ok, I live like half Sweden away from you…
Oh, and if you got a Wii U, add me :) (Doraleus)
I don’t have one yet as I don’t have enough resources right now…
I have a 3DS though…

Can’t wait to try this out.
Think this update is also in Europe as I saw a letter E at the end instead of a U.
For anyone in the UK, I found the link to find UK Hotspots.
Here it is.

Interesting. I just downloaded this moments ago, but didn’t know what it did until I read this.

I’m living in Melbourne, and I’m becoming more and more impressed with the number of people carrying around 3DSs on the train and stuff – I easily max out my Streetpass hits (10) by late morning- midday just by going to uni.
It’s a nice gesture… but that it’s tied to Nintendo Zone hotspots still limits it.
Like, here in Ireland there may as well be no such thing as Nintendo zone
Woah hello fellow Irish bro! Kerry here. I can tell you that no, we don’t have any hotspots unless maybe McDonalds work. But, there is a way to turn your own router into a fake hotspot.
do these updates apply to all 3ds machines, or only newer ones?
All. There’s no significant difference internally between the 3DSs.
Saint Joseph, Michigan here. Directly across Lake Michigan from Chicago.

they need to have millions of hotspots !
what about us 3DS owners in the UK :@ ???????????????????????
I like this idea. It is better than to trying to find people at the same time. I have gotten a couple of passes a few times, but this is a better idea.
Well I went to McDonald hotspot and I got no streetpass. Maybe because I am the first one there?
WTF…I just went to bestbuy, starbucks, and mcdonalds and tried getting streetpass. Not one damn place worked and they all had Nintendo Zone working (I connected successfully at each one). I’m from Northern California, anyone else having issues or did anyone actually try it out?
