The LEGO game franchise is no longer just about building bricks, neither are the titles just targeted to children, with many more adults joining in the fun either in single-player mode, with friends in co-op, or with their own children. And it’s showing no signs of weariness or “fatigue” either as Warner Bros. senior vice president Olivier Wolff has said in a recent interview with Games Industry. This year, the LEGO franchise has released LEGO City: Undercover for Wii U, LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins and LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey for Nintendo 3DS, with LEGO Marvel Super Heroes due for release on multiple platforms this fall, so it’s no surprise the games aren’t running out of steam. You can grab LEGO Marvel Super Heroes in North America on October 18 and in Europe November 15. Here’s a snippet of Wolff’s interview:
“I think that it is a really interesting blend of IPs. At the core of it you’ve got LEGO and the sustained success of LEGO as a family franchise in so many parts of the world year after year. We’ve played with it as kids, as parents now, so there is that element behind it.
“But in parallel to that you’ve got the fact that LEGO has brought into toys great IPs, and therefore we can express it in games, and with the encounter of great IPs expressed in toys, you’ve got the magic of TT which has a unique sense of humour. Without the humour of TT there wouldn’t be great LEGO games.
“What has been interesting is that we were always concerned about is there a ceiling to that? And the reality is that there’s absolutely no fatigue at all and there is actually a demand for different experiences. And that humour element that I mentioned, and also the innovation. Now you’ve got Chima Online which is a fantastic experience – and that’s really not competing at all with the console products but really bringing a different type of experience and reinforcing engagement with the franchise.”
You mean “NO signs of slowing down.”
It has ‘now’ been changed. Bad humour. But yes, it was changed on publication.
the wording for this article’s title makes ZERO sense.
first, also lego games are boring now
I WANT STARTROPICS 3
Would love to see Lego City Undercover 2. Undercover was awesome.
Me too. Lego City Undercover is one fo the best sandbox titles in my opinion. Lego city Undercover 2 with a bigger city and online multiplayer would be amazing.
“Lego City Undercover 2: Blackwell’s Revenge” sounds pretty good to me!
Talk about a series that grows with every installment! Now, I’m a DC man through and through and care about only two-to-three Marvel guys, but the gameplay’ll sure be enough to convince me.
