Nintendo Has Now “Discontinued” Selling Wii Consoles In Japan

wii_logo_large

Nintendo Japan has confirmed via its official website that it has discontinued the original Wii console which launched in 2006. We already knew that they were planning to stop manufacturing the hit console, but now it appears as though distribution has ceased. Those Japanese gamers wanting a Wii fix will either have to purchase the backwards compatible Wii U, or hunt around stores searching for any leftover Wii stock.

    1. Wiiu not even out yet wtf are you talking about?Nintendo make a New Console we dont know about…Lets see 2016.

      1. That’s true! Miyamoto has taken up massing his balls in the sun in his old age. He needs to get some fresh talent!

        1. Looking at your pic, I think you are one disgusting human being. If sickr has common sense he should have banned you.

            1. Thats-Cool-And-Imma-Let-You-Finish-But...

If this guy can have testicles as his avatar then i can have blue waffles as mine.

          1. Ben Sanders is totally inoffensive when you put both side by side, ans has been banned. Where is Sickr’s rationale?

This blog needs moderation, but the owners appear to give no importance to that.

  1. Wii may be everyone’s favourite whipping boy, but ultimately it won last generation, and had many fantastic games to boot, whether it be the Mario Galaxies, Mario Kart Wii, Brawl, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zelda TP and SS, Xenoblade etc. etc.

It was my first toe dipped into Nintendo console gaming (I use to be firmly Sega before their hardware division folded) and now it would take a lot to move me back.

    1. A toe’s a good safe place to start but now you should go all in. Place your entire sack into the pool of Wii U and learn to soak your balls there.

  2. good now Nintendo discontinue the sells of Wii in Europe and United States. this will help clear up confusion and sell Wii U(s).

  3. This articles makes me laugh out loud… Nintendo’s final strategy…stop selling the Wii… Then people can be as confused as they want, but they’ll have to buy a WiiU

PROBLEM: You saturated every square inch of the Market with Wii’s Nintendo! People won’t buy a WiiU till their Wii breaks down, by then, WiiU will be $200 and the early adopters will be mad as hell (well, we already are, so oh well)

    1. Yeah, Miyamoto is eating sushi and steam cleaning his balls with Reggie and friends instead of marketing the Wii U.

  4. all nintendo game systems will cease to exist.
the last will be the 3ds, life span, about two more years.
    nintendo is going strictly software.
this is a prediction, and a little bad attitude, lol.
    god forgives nintendo.

  5. MAN! I thought this said Wii U was discontinued at first. I practically swallowed my tongue.

I’m still upset that my original white Wii stopped working. It was too expensive to get it fixed, so now I just have it packed away as a collection piece. And I’ll never forget how disgusted I was when that red Wii released. I wanted it SO bad. That’s why I’m holding out on buying a Wii U until a cool new color comes out. I don’t want to repeat the same mistake.

    1. Nintendo should have lots of different colors avalaible for their system like they had for N64 and GC. I would love purple or silver WiiU to be avalaible.

      1. Anything but white would be nice (black isn’t bad, but it’s pretty dull, too). And if other colors are too expensive to manufacture, they should opt to make ’em limited edition. Maybe it’ll up sales, or maybe it’ll be like WWHD Bundle in some places.

  6. GameCube and N64 were my favorite consoles. Wii wasn’t and Wii U is too early to tell. But I do like it more than Wii even though Dumbtendo didn’t think of PS4 during development in 08′.

    1. Also 3DS is my best current console. I would buy Smash bros. for it but I’ll buy Wii u version because the controller is more comfortable to hold.

    1. Yeah. I was surprised at an email I got from GameStop this past week advertising Wiis for $50. <.< I didn't know they were that low already (refurbished, of course).

  7. Its a shame the Wii has ended in Japan, it was a revolutionary console but perhaps its time for the Wii to pass the baton to the next heir to the Nintendo throne, the grand Wii U

      1. Maby not the people but it wont be confused in the market anymore. The cant say buy a wii with a gamepad. I think this will be a big help for wii fit u since wii wont exist enymore

    1. Woop!!! Xbox 1 is hardly a gaming console. Its more of a social media devise and PS4 doesnt have enough innovation to take on the Wii U.

  8. Now they can use Wii titles to sell WiiU. I find this move brilliant! Those who wanna play SMG,TP,SS,TLS,XBC,SC,PT,SSBB etc. needs to go and buy WiiU to do so, if wii isnt in stock that is.

  10. Two things, no they won’t if they want to fix the Wii, Nintendo will still supply most parts and in Japan the sales are at Xbox360 levels there, so its really EOL.

  11. Its always sad when Nintendo stops making certain consoles. Its only about one year till DS becomes a collectors item and wii will follow soon. Oh and US Wii’s are going soon too so stock upon yer games and wiimotes while you can.

  12. I’ve already got two X1’s on pre-order.

You had a good run Nintendo but you can’t keep relying Mario to sell consoles for you.
