Stroke Researchers Recruit Final Patient In Study That Uses Wii For Rehabilitation

nintendo_wii

The Stroke Research Team at Cornwall recruited a gentleman named Mark Bennett to be the final patient in their research study that investigates whether playing Nintendo Wii for several weeks after an acute stroke is an effective form of rehabilitation. The unique experiment is called TWIST, or “The Wii In Stroke Study.” Sufferers of stroke often experience weakness in their arms, and doctors expect the repetitive motions necessary to play Wii games to be instrumental in rehabilitating patients back to normal arm strength. Doctors at the research center are expecting to release the first results from the study about six weeks from now. Interestingly, the final participant, Mr. Bennett, is patient number 101.

    1. 101 is only fun in one case: if you stick your nuts in the blazing hot sun. Compared to this, yes yes, the 101 is some fun.

            1. If I was “Retarded” then I wouldn’t be able to convey my words only. Also, how did you take “anger” out of a comment online? As a matter of fact I was very neutral over the comment and only a bad troll would reply with such a pathetic reply. ;)

              1. Same way I’ve seen you take “anger” out of comments online ;)

Yes, keep feeding the troll! Such a genius you are!

              2. stfu you basement dweller, yes we all saw what you look like and it also looked like you were in a basement in front of a pc. not surprising for some loser who acts the way you do at the age of like what was it 30??

                1. OMG UR SUCH A BAD TROLL, I’M GONNA FEED U SO MUCH NOW.

          1. It was mot definitely sarcasm. It’s plainly obvious. He’s drawing attention to the fact that the Wii is fantastic and clearly it is played by and carries benefits for people other than babies.

    1. If the Wii sucks a ball sack only does it suck. But what kind of of ball sack? A hairy three-balled sack (Microsoft, Sony and PC).

        1. Jokes on Wii Wii like a little child’s wii wii. Maybe not for babies but for toddlers. Wah Wah my Wii Wii is Poop Poop out of Mii Miiyamoto’s ass crack!

  2. This is what I believe is the Wii’s biggest advantage, yet it’s the least reported on – it gets people gaming that never did before. Does anyone here think that Apple got Grammies and Mommies playing casual video games? No. I have a number of relatives in nursing homes. (I am 50 and my family is old. Lol.) They would have never played Bubble Pop-type games, if they hadn’t been introduced to the Wii for therapy. Other systems like to hype how they have made strides in gaming and development for people with disabilities, but the Wii has done exponentially more, but they don’t get, or seek, the press for it.

    1. Who cares about advertising to old people, the disabled, or stroke victims – they’re pretty much already in their graves. I get the whole “everoyone” demographics, but I don’t think that’s where Nintendo’s main focus should be.

      1. I never said it should be their main focus. I’m just saying it’s another way that Nintendo is revolutionary, but never gets mainstream credit for it. Everyone falls all over themselves to anoint Microsoft as being groundbreaking for some of the insignificant things they do and the PS3 gets a lot of credit from the medical community for that health based thing they were doing (the name escapes me right now), but all it did was give people credit for logging onto it and staying logged in for long periods of time. All they were doing was going to work or sleeping while they were logged on. They weren’t accomplishing anything, yet they were lauded for this. Meanwhile, Nintendo comes up with something that not only was a great gaming system, but it also actually helped people in an entirely non-profitable demographic in the process. Apple also owes them a great debt because a lot of them are hooked on casual games that they would have never even knew existed, if they didn’t know how much fun games could be.

  3. I’m so unbiased! I want Xbox to die! I’m so unbiased! Everyone who disagrees with me is a bad troll and I will eat you up! I’m such a fatass!

  7. It’s fascinating to see how innovative therapies like the TWIST study are exploring unconventional methods for stroke rehabilitation. The idea of using Nintendo Wii for arm strength recovery is both creative and promising. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the results in six weeks! Hopefully, this method proves effective and becomes a regular part of post-stroke therapy. Has anyone else heard of similar studies?
