Videogamer Lists Their Favourite Nintendo 3DS Games

UK gaming publication Videogamer has listed their all-time favourite Nintendo 3DS games. The list itself is rather good, but oddly it’s missing Super Mario 3D Land, which is widely regarded to be one of the best games available on the platform. You can take a look at their hand chosen picks in the list below.

  • Fire Emblem Awakening
  • Ghost Recon Shadow Wars
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  • Super Street Fighter IV
  • Pushmo
  • Resident Evil Revelations
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns
  • Cave Story 3D
  • Metal Gear Solid 3
  • Zelda Ocarina Of Time
  • Zelda Link Between Worlds
  • Luigi’s Mansion 2
  • Pokemon X & Y
  • Animal Crossing New Leaf
  • Mario & Luigi Dream Team

          1. I was just going to post about that. I have no idea why critics have underrated the game, because almost anyone who has played it calls it the best game on the 3DS!

            1. O.K. two things, they gave Kid Icarus an honorable mention, but they said that neither of them had played it.
KIU actually got some pretty great reviews, I don’t remember reading any bad reviews (except people complaining about the controls) but it didn’t really catch on. It’s too bad because it’s a fantastic game, people are missing out!

              1. Uh-oh… lets talk about good videogame press here… they say that none of them played KIU ? What a shame. This isn´t a serious website.

            2. I played it, but didnt like it. Hated the controls so I only got half way through the game, and its not because I never got use to the controls I just didnt like them, same with SkyWard Sword.

Great Dialogue though, KI:U was hilarious.

                1. Exactly, but you don’t hear these varied opinions about FE:A, that game truely was an amazing masterpiece, and to my opinion, basically flawless.

        1. Yep, a 3DS list without Kid icarus is not a 3DS list. Also, they didn’t list games such as Virtues last reward, Tales of Abyss and a a few others which deserve to be on the list way more than some of their choices.

But we must all remember, an opinion is an opinion…

            1. did you actually play the game? or are you just repeating what you’ve read? the control scheme take about 10 minutes to get used to.

                1. That’s too bad man, I guess I took to the controls pretty quick. If I recall, the controls are nearly identical to Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS, which I liked a lot too.
It’s too bad because the game is surprisingly deep, and worth repeated plays, and the weapon customization system is the coolest I’ve ever seen in a game. Good story, lots of pretty intense action mixed with a good dose of actual humor, I actually laughed out loud a few times.
There is some great dialogue as well.
“Floor ice cream gives me health.”
“It’s like a birthday party where everyone wants to kill me!”
“I don’t want to steam the sacred buns”

                  Good times, good times…

      1. They said Kid Icarus, the guy who made it just hasn’t personally played it, so he couldn’t give his personal recommendation.
        As for 3D Land….really? It’s ok, but that’s it.

  1. Uhh howdy! Benny has really been enjoying Pokemon X & Y, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs + Cats, and most notably Imagine Babyz. I tell Benny he can’t get anyone pregnant until he’s married and at least 40. So Benny likes to simulate taking care of and playing with babies. :) What are your favorite Nintendo 3DS games everyone?

    1. I REALLY loved it, and I always here people say that they didn’t like it.

So, I really want to know, what didn’t you like about it?
And, I’m not gonna yell at you are try to make you think otherwise, I just want to here things from a different perspective.

      1. I’m not saying I don’t like it, just that it wasn’t that great compared to other big Mario titles. There just wasn’t that much to it to keep me entertained for so long.

          1. Haven’t got it yet, but from what I see, it looks a hell of a lot more fun than 3D Land. I’m hoping to get it along with WW HD by the end of the month. ^.^

    2. Totally agree.
Honestly, i say the same about 3D World, the thing is both games are under the scenario of “Oh my god, a fucking game for a system i bought that had nothing, wow it’s so good”, rather than actually comparing it to games, of a way higher quality.

  2. I’m just really upset that Kid Icarus Uprising isn’t on here. It is one of my all-time favorite games, not just ones on the 3ds.

          1. The controls were the main problem but the game was flawed in many other ways as well.

The on-foot segments in Uprising were absolutely atrocious. The were repetitive, monotonous and stretched on for far too long.

The boss fights, save a couple, lacked variety and were extremely boring.

The multiplayer was a complete joke. Shows how awful Nintendo is at making fun online multiplier games.

And don’t even get me started on the ridiculous story and obnoxious characters.

Overall, Kid Icarus was a game that had a lot of potential, but ended up being a broken, cluttered mess

                1. Okay, but you didn’t like the amount of variety the game had, or even the difficulty level.

you are fight about some segments being too repetitive, but it’s all about having fun.

Yes the controls are bad, but it didn’t stop me from enjoying it. The boss fight are were intense!…far from being boring. although it depends what intensity you are playing.

As for the story, to me … it’s amazing, love the plot twists!

Knowing that Nintendo is terrible at online functionalities, but they did a great job in this game. Light vs. Dark is can be extremely chaotic fun. I always dominate in the matches, bit there are some great opponents.

And when did you get a 3DS? I thought you wasn’t into handheld gaming ;)

                  1. I really don’t like handheld gaming. I bought a 3DS in August 2011 to give it a try but sold it before the end of the year.

If there is a 3DS game that interests me (which is very rare) I have a friend that will let me borrow hers.

                    1. I see, but at least you’ll still be able to play some of Nintendo’s gems on the 3DS.

btw. I played Shadow of the Colossus, it was phenomenal!

                    2. If you don’t like handheld gaming, why are you commenting on something about 3DS? There are different criteria for what makes a good handheld game and a good console game.
I played a lot of DS games, and the Kid Icarus Controls were almost intuitive. And say what you will, but there is no faster and more responsive control scheme than the one used in Kid Icarus Uprising.

            1. Only noobs complain about the controls and the online was the best thing about the game.

No, you haven’t played the game, either that or you really, really suck in the online or even game in general.

        1. Uprising was one of the best games ever made with a revolutionary control scheme and amazing graphics. How did you even bake up that opinion?

    1. Will they listed the games they played and the upcoming games they are anticipating .. and they actually mentioned kid icarus in the end of their video as a popular title theyre considering to buy

  3. I totally agree with Anonymous Kid Icarus Uprising is one of the best (if not THE best) on 3DS. It should be on the list.

  4. And that amazing library is what made a 3DS a huge hit, when most gamers thought that ot was going to be a flop and Vita will destroy it… hopefully it is the case for the Wii U.

I can not wait for X by Monolith Soft!!

    1. There were people who thought the Vita would destroy the 3DS? I thought people just thought handheld gaming as a whole was dead. Either way, they were horrendously wrong.

      1. It’s funny, because I like my PSP as much as my DS or 3ds, and I’ve thought about getting a Vita. but when I see the pitiful selection of games, I think it’s just not worth buying to play 3 or 4 games. The Vita is a great console with no games worth playing. The 3DS has an amazing library of games, I’ve got a stack of games that I haven’t even had a chance to play yet!

          1. No, I go to Game Stop about once a week, I go to the games section every time I go to Target, Best Buy, or Saturn (overseas) And with the Vita, many games are identical ports to the 3DS version. Much of the Playstation store’s games are playable on PSP, and Vita is not backwards compatible with PSP, so I would have to re-purchase PSP games to play on Vita. The Vita is not powerful and functional enough to use as a tablet, and too big and uses too much battery to use as a music player. Plus I have a smartphone to watch movies, and listen to music, surf the internet.
Specifically I am looking for Vita exclusive games, and games that feature unique gameplay, and use the Vita’s unique features.
I’m not interested in racing games, FIFA 20XX, or Lego Games. So there goes nearly a 3rd of the Vita’s catalogue. Tearaway looks amazing, Injustice looks cool, Rayman Legends looks kind of cool. But there isn’t that much that jumps out at me. There simply are not enough games to justify the purchase of a Vita.

  5. No Ace Attorney, no Professor Layton, no SM3DL, no Kid Icarus, no Virtue’s Last Reward, no little-known eshop titles, no Steamworld, no thought whatsoever.

  6. Fire Emblem Awakening FTW!!

On another note, surprised to not see Kid Icarus up there. Granted, I don’t think it’s aged well, but it’s still a Top 10 3DS game.

And there’s a reason why Super Mario 3D Land isn’t on it. Because it’s a lousy game that’s easily outshined by M&L: Dream Team.

    1. I liked Kid Icarus, but I don’t think it’s *the* best N3DS game. It deserves mentioning. Still, I don’t expect someone else’s personal taste to match my own. I also disliked 3DL, but I wouldn’t mind if saw that compiled waste on their personal favorites.

  7. 3D Land and Kid Icarus Uprising are surprising omissions. I also would have expected New Super Mario Bros. 2 to make the cut. And wasn’t Etrian Odyssey supposed to be great?

  8. Fire Emblem is honestly the best 3DS game to date. I’ve put in over 500 hours in mine since it released in February. IT’S THAT GOOD. *_*

  9. fire emblem. i dont know for me it was a boring mediocre rpg game all about tactics and strategy. it has basically no in game graphics, exploring or discovering anything there is impossible because the “world” doesn’t really exist there except tactics and strategic combat.

bravely default on the other hand is just spectacular

    1. Um, that’s kind of the point. Fire Emblem isn’t a normal RPG, it’s a Strategy RPG. There’s a difference between the two genres.

It’s essentially a war game, like Advance Wars. There’s no need for “exploring” or discovering anything.
