Prolific blogger NintenDaan has captured seven levels from Retro Studios forthcoming extravaganza, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The videos show off a plethora of different locations that can be found throughout the game ranging from underwater levels to an obligatory mine cart chase. Has there been any documentation on the controls for this? Any gimmicky controls? Or is it a return to the SNES days of smooth controls and game play?

The default is the WiiMote apparently, but it will work with the GamePad & Pro Controller.
The stupid controls on DKC returns were so horrible i didnt even bother to play it for a long time. I came back to play when there were codes to modify the controls for the game.
But in WiiU’s position id say they’d be smooth cuz the game pad has real buttons.
DKC Returns was a great game that was ruined by controls. Hopefully this doesn’t go down the same path.

But you can choose to use the gamepad or pro controller this time. So there’s more possible ways to play and a lot of people prefer a “normal” controller in games like these :)
The controls were fine, arguablly they were better, because the time between a flick of the wii remote and a jump is very small, so you can especially roll jump on the spot. Try doing that on the 3DS version.
I have no doubts this will be one of the best platformers in history……….matching ( or close to ) ones such as Mario 3d world, galaxy 1 and 2 rayman legends(lowest of them all but still) and and DKC on wii.

played and seen a lot of it. the controls and moving stages are epic. might not be as good as the wii one but the enemies are sure better and characters. I will probably preorder it someday.

Can we relax on all the previews of this game? I will be picking it up, but i am done watching pre-release content for it. i’d like some feeling of newness to it.

I don’t feel forced to watch. I haven’t watched.
I do think there is such a thing as overplaying your hand & with this game it feels close to that line for me.
I’ve already decided I want this game so I don’t need to see more to reinforce that – and who knows, maybe I’ll even be a little surprised by what I experience. But by all means, please feel free to continue to eat up these previews. I am happy they don’t diminish your game play experience.

Some more leaked info. On the DK Prime DLC expansion i mentioned earlier (name not final), With each boss you defeat, Samus gets a new beam or ability. Each beam or ability is useful to get to certain places. The kong buddies are not playable in this expansion. Samus can dash like the other kongs by morphing into a ball. The worlds are the same but with a Metroid theme to each one. The cartoony enemy types are replace with Metriods, Space pirates, etc. That is all for now.
i played better with just the wiimote than nunchuck and wiimote.
