IGN recently has the opportunity to speak to Retro Studios this week about the challenges of bringing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze to Nintendo’s latest home console, Wii U. Retro Studios President Michael Kelbaugh explained to the publication the difficulties the company faced when developing for new hardware.
“The Wii U is a powerhouse of technology that we had to transition to. We had brand new tools, brand new engine, brand new everything. There was a lot of unknowns [for us],” he said. “From a technology standpoint we’re trying to develop that technology while we’re developing a new game at the same time. That was really challenging.”

Have you ever imagined playing an old classic that you loved and wanted it to be online to show off your skills or even play with friends and family that live to far away to play the game with them. Imagine Super Mario World with online and voice chat, Mario kart with online and voice chat or even super smash bros! from N64 with online multiplayer and voice chat the list can go on and on this can be something that I know will be a hit! We together can make this happen if we show nintendo that we really want this! This would be amazing!

@grimleader there is a thing called skype and Versus, true that wii u does not have online for retro games and chat but you can get around it by using a capture card and using skype for online and chat and you can play with others like how versus does
thats true but even with that you dont get the same feel and that does not work with all VC games like mario kart and ssb for n64 i mean u can see each other sure but its not really versing each other. their would also be a lot mote interaction with using purly just the console its self because if nintendo did this VC with online would be based around that experiance and if nintendo did this it would be amazing :)

It’s not more powerful,may even be a little less, but not a huge gap, and it definitely is on par with both Xbone and Ps4 because of the other things that it can definitely do. Wii U can even be clocked at 1TB while the Ps4 and Xbone would get smoked.

I’m glad they did DK first. First of all, I really like it as a platformer! But most importantly, it is a game that they can practice and try different thing with, in terms of power. Now that they have learned some things, I think they are even more prepared to deliver an epic HD experience game like Metroid, Star Fox etc.!
