Ubisoft Says We’d Be Stupid Not To Do Annual Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft’s vice president of creative Lionel Raynaud has told Edge that the company would be stupid not to capitalise on the Assassin’s Creed franchise every year. Raynaud simply said that they will continue to offer consumers a new Assassin’s Creed every year as it would be stupid not to satisfy the need.

Raynaud was able to discuss the pressures of releasing a major new game in Ubisoft’s flagship series every year. “We are able to offer people a new Assassin’s Creed every year because they want Assassin’s Creed every year,” he added. “As long as this is true we would be very stupid to not satisfy this need, but it puts a lot of pressure on us to create something that will never disappoint.

  1. Summary of the incoming comments: Assasins’s Creed Rehash, blah, blah, blah. No it isnt, blah, blah, bleeeeeeeeeeh.

      1. Just a reminder before the kid U or whatever argument starts:
“Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

Dang, I didn’t see the quotations in the beginning and thought your speech sounded very similar to C.S. Lewis’ xD

          1. If all gamers….or people in general lived by this quote, high school and the world would be more interesting.

        2. I’ve always loved that quote. It was love at first sight, and I don’t even believe in love at first sight :P. I even keep a copy of it in a document on my computer for quick reference.

  2. They should continue the series as long as they want, but they should give more time than a year of development… Otherwise it’s hard to be innovative…

    1. SherlockWillFightBilbo

They do. They have multiple studios making different games at a time. I believe AC4 took three years to make. They just time it all so a new one comes out every year.

          1. And for an ass calling someone a fanboy buying a Nintendo first party over a now another milking trash franchise, you’re a sad case of hypocrisy gone wild.

        1. Get both? Because they are two different games. Or pirate one for PC since AC series probably won’t come to Wii U

        2. With Mario Kart 8 being online multi-player and HD, it would probably be a good idea to pick it up.

HOWEVER, you should be able to find AC4 at some point pretty cheap. Definitely don’t pay full price for AC4 unless you’re a die-hard AC fan.

            1. You may not like AC, but pillaging and ransacking ships, terrorizing the sea, it’s like GTA-Pirate edition. Take ships, add them to your fleet. Good stuff.

        1. OMG, that’s the part I loved best. Fuck the story, I just spend hours sailing and looting ships!!

To each their own I suppose.

      1. Well thank god I’m not one of them and learned a long time ago what gaming is suppose to be. Nearly all of these asshats choosing quantity over quality and then bashing Nintendo for doing the opposite (except with New Mario Bros.) is purely a fucking idiot fanboy wasting money at their own expense so let them run their wallet dry and be idiots until they learn..when its too late.

As for these companies thinkjng this shit will work in the long run, I hope they lose money and end up collapsing hard to the ground..and I’m looking at EA, Ubisoft, Activision and Capcom.

      1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

On entirely different systems and if you count games like Mario Kart and Super Mario as the same then you’re lost…

    1. Right. Especially the way that Ubisoft doesn’t want to make the game for the Nintendo each year. It’s hard to want to do business with them at all.

  4. The quality keeps up, but at least I am starting to get sick of the series game play. Still vaven’t completed IV: Black Flag, probably going to take a few years brake from the series now!

    1. well assassin creed adds alot of adventures, different story and new quest and modes. nintendo adds nothing new in nsmbu but just makes it hd with useless baby yoshi.

      1. its nsmb what do u expect the two mario games aleast come once per gen they aren’t over used. I agree the ip needs to do something NEW. Ubisoft is overloading the ip, one day they could be cutting content just so they can make it in year, Its not good for the fans or the ip if it over floods the market

      2. That sounds incredibly biased to me, almost like saying AC: Revelations was just Assassin’s Creed with a hook blade.

    2. Well its their only valid excuse they got to attack Nintendo for the same reason they love COD, Assassin’s Creed, Madden, the list keeps going. Can’t believe the rate of idiocy and hypocrisy of people today.

  5. its good to make it yearly with good changes. nintendo doesnt even put effort in of there games. most of the barebone nintendo games dont even have online or achievements system.

    1. There’s a fine lome between being fucking stupid and being fucking ignoramt. You, however, manage to be both.

      1. well, even though games are not about those things, it’s true what he said, especially in the case of games that are multiplayer, and yet are not online

      2. If you’re going to insult someone, then at least check your spelling. It makes people not take your seriously.

    2. Ok, now take what you just said, and then think about what you been saying about Nintendo, I see the same thing in most fans over this and you’re blind to see it…but its exactly what you been saying about Nintendo, the series is getting boring.

    3. Wouldn’t it be a wiser idea for these studios to spend more time developing a game to assure its favor with gamers that the thought, challenges and creativity is put into it..you know, like how most of the Zelda series did and has been highly prasied every time?

Now morons like you have gone beyond the double standard BS to prasie third parties for doing this and yet condemn Nintendo over the same thing which they’re not doing with the exception of New Mario Bros.? Fucking morons like you is whats destroying gaming becausw you let companies like EA get away with robbing you blind because they know and saying you’re too fucking stupid to notice.

  6. Ultimately Ubisoft are right. It would be a bad business decision to not release these games annually. The real dumb people in this story are the ones who are still buying into this awful heartless franchise.

    1. You’re about half way dumb thinking this is a good idea of Ubisoft. But by all means, knock yourself out, tire your employees and lose money and fans over this BS COD/Madden release plan.

      1. Read again, as it said, the real fault are consumers who keep buying the series. Just like you people who keep buying rehashed games of Nintendo.

  7. So they are allowing their games to over flood the market. Seeing how that hasn’t been going well for COD. Cod popularity, is going down ghost was example of what happens when you over do a IP. They don’t give enough time to let people have a break the ip, and its good to take a break every 2-3 years for some ips. Aleast Zelda takes years of development and gives fans a break so they can rest up another game. Ubisoft ur going to hurt ur ip if keep this up.

      1. Skyward sword came in 2011 and the newest link between worlds came 2013 so yeah logic flawed, also we don’t even know when zelda wii u is comin (my guess 2015 or late 2014. Zelda wii u was in the works since 2011 so almost over 3 years in development. I don’t count windwaker HD because that was just a HD remake, to teach future zelda devs, and hyrule warriors is something new to series and that is a partnership to reach a different audience to nintendo.

        1. zelda hyrle warriors is still a zelda rehash like the other. witcher 2 is better than any zelda game.

            1. No. Its made separately by the same team who made Dynasty Warriors not to clone the game but to explain the Hyrulian War story that took place before Ocarina of Time according to the Hyrule Historia book.

          1. Orange to apple witcher has another thing going on, Hyrule warriors isn’t even rehash its something different that zelda franchise has never dived into, so how is it a rehash.

          2. You haven’t played The Witcher 2 because you don’t even have a PC or Xbox 360 you piece of shit lol.

      2. You have a bit of work to do to corroborate that, starting with reconciling your first words with the fact that Nintendo has completed only seventeen Zeldas starting from the first one in ’86 (’87 in North America and Europe), over twenty-five years ago.

      3. Look at the chronicle releases of every Zelda game made and also take into account of the studios that made some of those games beside Nintendo by themselves and tell me does that look anything like an annual release you fucktard?

  8. It’s baffling that people berate Nintendo for constant rehashes when they release one or two Zeldas per console, but every other major developer rehashes their franchises every year.
Even Mario doesn’t rehash that much. Yeah a lot of Mario games come out but you can’t say Mario Galaxy was a rehash of New SUper Mario Bros, there are different frnachises with Marios face on them, and any one of those frnachises only gets one or two installments per console.
Every other major developer is worse than Nintendo for rehashes.

    1. Exactly. Mario kart only gets one game a console. 3d Mario only gets one or two games a console. Smash bros only gets one game a console. Nsmb only gets one game a console. Legend of zelda only gets one or two a console. Pikmin only get one or two a console.

      1. rehashed mario kart 8. all the mario games are mario games rehashed. pokemon is even rehashed game. pikmen is ok but has no game achievements.smash bros is a terrible fighter and the wiiu ver is just an upscaled wii game.

        1. Man, forget this little whiny bitch. His brain has been shot off, dropped and stompped hard by his bastard drunk of a father or drug addict mother.

Oh sorry. Did I struck a nerve that isn’t there anymore?

    2. mario galaxy plays the same as nsmbu and have the same story. super mario francish is a complete rehash over 30years and 200 mario games.

      1. Ur very closed minded aren’t u. Bowser is central antagonist of course he is going to be the villain, mario never has a story, unless its the RPG series and those are only time when bowser is not central antagonist. Mario has different spinoffs that have different gameplay doesn’t make them all the game, but the central gameplay design of those games are going to be the same. Most of those 200 mario games where during the snes , and nes era, he cooled down during 64 era. nsmb is nothing like galaxy. Level design is beyond different, different gameplay elements are added, different themes, stronger since of variety, and ect. On every single post u put up u always want to start these stupid arguments with people

    3. When it boils down to the main series Mario hasn’t had more than three games in each console since the NES era.
      NES: SMB, SMB2, SMBLL, SMB3.
      SNES: SMW.
      GB: SML, SML2
      N64: SM64
      GC: SMS
      DS: NSMB
      Wii: SMG, SMG2, NSMBW
      3DS: NSMB2, SM3DL
      WiiU: NSMBU, SM3DW
So there 17 games in a franchise that is well over 30 years, how is that abusing it?
Now, that Nintendo uses Mario as a MASCOT and his brand recognition to fuel other games is a completely different argument.
The Mario franchise has a lot of spin-offs, like RPG, racing, sports and party games, but the only thing related to the main series in them is the characters, it wouldn’t be hard to simply make up new characters and universes for these games and make them feel completely alien to the Mario franchise, just like it wouldn’t be hard to reskin the Pikmin as Toads and make that a Mario spin-off, in the end we shouldn’t even consider Mario spin-offs to be part of the franchise, they are their own franchises in their own right and would work just as good without the Mario imagery which frankly is simply there to exploit brand recognition, SOMETHING EVERY COMPANY DOES.

      1. Like Mario Kart, without the characters and the images used for the power ups, what exactly makes it feel like a Mario game? Nothing, it doesn’t play like a Mario game at all.
And Paper Mario? And Mario & Luigi? How about Mario Strikers? Or Mario Party? What stops them from changing their imagery and becoming something like: “Paper Wizard” “Double Trouble” “Super Strikers” or “All-Star Party”?
        Absolutely nothing.
Beyond that, the fact that all of these Mario spin-offs have been so well-received gives me yet another argument: Does it even matter that it is Mario?
When there’s franchises like AC and CoD shamelessly rehashing the same game twice each year, Mario is there giving us an a bigger level of variety in his games.
In the end each game falls into a genre, even the most obtuse and “revolutionary” ones, Mario spin-offs is just Nintendo exporting Mario to other genres, making up “new” franchises would end up in exactly the same things, an RPG, a sports game, a party game, so why does it matter if Bowser’s Inside Story or Mario Kart 7 has Mario imagery in it? It doesn’t make it any less its own game.
I think this also exemplifies a huge problem within the gaming community: It’s all about visuals.
Like I said Mario spin-offs with any other name attached to them would be just as good, and making “new” franchises will amount to nothing because they will simply take the same place within a specific genre, so why are people demanding Nintendo makes something else up? Because they’re all about the aesthetics and nothing about the substance, they’ll gladly take “Paper Wizard” simply because it doesn’t have Mario imagery, even if it plays the exact same.

  9. “We’d stupid to not release this garbage annually since the hardcore faggots need to play shit to satisfy their needs.” – Ubisoft

“Call of Duty is for brainless casual gaymers” – Activision

  10. I’m currently playiing number 3. It’s ok but I tend to be a completionist. And no, not every Mario game is the same! This has been proven time and time again.

    1. In my opinion Mario rarely delivers the same experience twice, even direct sequels (Outside the NSMB series) feel markedly different from their predecessors, I don’t think anyone could honestly fault SMB3, SMG2 or SM3DW for not being their own game, because they really are, even if they are sequels, they are different experiences.
For what I’ve played of AC, I can assuredly say that to me all games feel pretty much the same, with the only changes being aesthetic, this one has ships, that one has France, it’s still pretty much the same experience again and again and again.

  11. The Legend of Zelda: 28 years, 17 games, 3 major gameplay changes (2D [TLoZ, ALttP], 3D[OoT, MM], IR [TP] and Motion [SS])
Assassin’s Creed: 6 years, 16 games, no major gameplay changes.

    1. Saying yearly when the total count of AC games will go up to 18 by the end of the year (When the franchise turns SEVEN) is a gigantic understatement 18 games in 7 years gives us an average of 2.5 games a year.

    2. Thank you for the statistics man. Boy will the ignorant hate to see the facts laying right before them. I guess they’re severely allergic to reality.

  12. “Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. http://qr.net/rtcX

  13. I agree, they are making money off of it aren’t they? Corporations want money so there is no reason for them to stop. I don’t like what they are doing though.

  14. Well, as long as the games are good, I don’t see why it matters? Only thing is, I’m going to be backed up on Assassin’s Creed games. It’s taking me forever to get through Assassin’s Creed III. Mainly because I don’t play every day.

  15. 100 nintendodrones vs one troll. WOW xD
Do you fanboys realize, that, you’re encourage that defendant to troll?

  16. And I would be stupid to buy annual assasins creed.
Too bad these games are story driven, so cant buy 1 every 5 years, like I can do with CoD.

  17. Lol bull shit ubisoft just likes milking the assassins creed franchise and not coming up with new ideas just like Activision releasing call of duty games every year evenly people will get tired of it and want to play something different

  18. Dam I wanted them to make a game set in Egypt but france thats going to be boring who wants to play in France

  19. The games are different but the story is same shit templars trying to collect pieces of the apple of eden to take over the world and control all the people than there was thoes alien type people came before humans thats when the story was getting dumb I hope black flag isn’t like that I haven’t played it yet

  20. Don’t like what they do? Vote with your wallet. If the game is still making a killing the people have spoken…. Unfortunately. I don’t like the whole annual gig myself but if people are buying what can you do.?
