Here’s The Smash Bros Nintendo Direct Roundup

A new Nintendo Direct video revealed numerous details about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems. At the start of the video, series creator Masahiro Sakurai announced that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is planned for this summer, with the Wii U version targeting winter 2014. Both games will be available in stores and on Nintendo eShop for their respective platform. Sakurai also detailed many of the stages and items in both versions, described the games’ online functionality, revealed a new mode exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version and announced fan-favourite Greninja, a Pokémon from the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games, as a new playable character.

  • Launch windows: The Nintendo 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. is planned to launch this summer. The Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. is planned to launch in winter 2014.
  • Silky-smooth 3D: Most game-play elements of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game will run at 60 frames per second, all in stereoscopic 3D.
  • “Smash Run”: Exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is a new mode called “Smash Run.” In this mode, four players have five minutes to enter a dungeon and explore the surroundings, fight enemies and obtain power-ups to enhance their fighters. Once the five minutes are up, all four fighters enter a battle arena using their newly equipped items and power-ups. Enemies encountered in the Smash Run mode are from a wide range of game series. Multiple Nintendo 3DS systems and games are required for multiplayer modes.
  • New challenger!: Greninja, the awesome final evolution of Froakie from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, joins the roster as a playable character inSuper Smash Bros. for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
  • Oldies but goodies: Many of the classic characters from past Super Smash Bros. games that are returning in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS have new powers and abilities. Four characters that have appeared in previous games, but had yet to be announced before this Nintendo Direct, include:
    • Zero Suit Samus: That’s right, Zero Suit Samus is back, but this time she is her own fully playable character, separate from suited Samus. In the new game, she is given jet boots to make her even more powerful.
    • Sheik: As with Zero Suit Samus, Sheik is another character that appeared in previous Super Smash Bros. games, but will be a unique playable character for the first time in the new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games. Sheik has new moves like Burst Grenade and Bouncing Fish.
    • Yoshi: In previous games, Yoshi stood on two legs and hunched over, as if Mario were going to jump on top of him at any moment. This new version of Yoshi stands completely upright, making him an even stronger fighter.
    • Charizard: After appearing from a Poké Ball in Super Smash Bros. Melee and becoming playable by using Pokémon Trainer in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, this fire-breathing Pokémon is now a selectable character.
  • Online play: Both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros. will offer online multiplayer game play with other players on the same platform. Players with broadband Internet access can battle it out with anyone else who is online and also has the game.
    • When playing with random players online, two modes are available: “For Fun” and “For Glory.” In “For Glory,” only Final Destination stage variations are available. There are no platforms, elevated areas or items in this mode. It is a nice, clean battle between characters. In “For Fun,” all stages are picked randomly and all items and power-ups are available.
    • When playing with friends, full customization is available – players can set the rules, stages and items however they want.
  • Variety of stages: While the cast of playable characters is the same in both versions of the new games, the stages where the battles take place are vastly different, depending on which system a player chooses. The Wii U stages are primarily based on past home console games, while the Nintendo 3DS stages draw from hand-held games for inspiration.Items, trophies and Pokémon: Items, assist trophies and Poké Balls all return in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. New to the games are Master Balls, special Poké Balls that contain Legendary Pokémon like Arceus and Xerneas.
    • Boss characters, such as the Yellow Devil in Dr. Wily’s Base, will make appearances in some stages. When bosses appear, fighters will have to battle the boss, as well as one another. The boss can even be used in strategic ways to damage other fighters.
    • Almost all the stages in both versions of the game will have a “Final Destination form,” an alternate form of each stage that is inspired by the relatively simple layout of the much-loved Final Destination stage.
  • Get connected: There will be elements in Super Smash Bros. that link both versions of the games. More details about this will be revealed at a later date.
  • Custom moves: In a series first, players can now customize move sets when playing locally or online with friends. More information about this feature will be announced in the future

      1. I can’t wait till winter! Its too long a wait!!!!
Winter starts on Dec 21st! This means they only have a 10 day launch window… im presuming the obvious and saying this game will release before Christmas (for the mass sales), therefore the 24th and 25th are out …
This only leaves the 21st, 22nd & 23rd to release the game… the 21st lands on Sunday followed by
        22nd Monday
        23rd Tuesday…
Too bad there is no Friday…as that is usually the best/typical day to release a game. They might have to cheat the system and release it on the 19th… which is technically in the fall but i wont complain if its a bit early.

    1. Zombie Triforce Johnson

Masahiro Sakurai you goldfish looking sushi ass eating mutherfucker!!!! You had a golden opportunity to really make a game to blow away all the haters and naysayers ,something that woule push the limits of the so-called powerhouse Wii U hardware and you are showing us nothing but what looks like a mid-console PS3 life cycle (circa 2008) looking piece of shit.. Now I would be forgiving of this eye sore if the game compensated with innovation something truly evolutionary to this franchise and all you give us is some watered down lazy sad excuse to something that could of been special. Why does older games like tekken, street fighter 4, ect. still look better then this game.. Why????? This is more Please Understand bait……

      1. I can see your a troll but you know what i’ll humour you.
        street fighter 4 http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_LiNwpM9VCpM/TQFYauv2jnI/AAAAAAAAAHY/LePe17e-PdA/s1600/street-fighter-iv-200801300515284731.jpg
        Smash bros 4 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cf/Super_Smash_Bros._U_-_new_characters.jpg

Clearly inferior graphics, honestly between this and mario kart I do believe this stuff looks better then alot of the “next gen” games i’ve seen thus far.
Regardless of wherether the wii u specs are ps3 level(very doubtful) or near xbone ps4 levels or anywhere inbetween does’nt matter, nintendo knows how to optimize theyre graphics, it’s the reason mario galaxy looked like a damn 360 game and a good one at that. raw power only goes so far it’s the art direction, effort and optimization that does the rest, there are games being made now on ps3 and xbox 360 that look like ps2 games(ride to hell, rambo. to name a few) and the difference from ps2 to ps3 was much MUCH bigger then the leap from ps3 to ps4 which quite honestly has’nt wowed me that much yet aside from a few select titles.

As for gameplay there seems to be alot of inovation going on here, better online component with an honestly great looking fun/competitive side(hopefully people will set up tourneys on miiverse), the new characters and stages thus far look great. pretty much doing what a sequel should do expanding and improving over the original, I can’t see how street fighter 2 has “innovated” as you call it that much since it’s snes roots either.

      2. ARE YOU BLIND?! DIDN’T YOU SEE THAT WHOLE VIDEO?! You having the word “Triforce” is a disgrace with what you say…QUIT PUTTING DOWN THE WII U WITH THOSE REHASHED PIECE OF SHIT GAMES FROM PS3 AND XBOX 360! You know dam fucking well that they are not even fucking close to a good 4 player fighting game such as Smash Bros. YOU FUCKING GOD FASAKEN PIECE OF SHIT!!! GET THE FUCK OFF THE NET!!! You’ll make us all happy!

      1. I was about to rage as well. XD But I did rage when I learned Dark Samus and Minda isn’t playable. Oh but two unimportant Wii Fit characters get the cut but not Dark Samus and Minda, two of more favoritable characters by fans didn’t? >XC

        1. There is also my Isaac :(… He didnt even made it as an assist trophy this time… Or maybe… Is he coming as a playable character? :(… I really don’t think that will happen :(

          1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

I’m sure there are a few more assist trophies…

They showed like 12 and that’s too few in my opinion…

              1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

                Indeed…

I would really like Robotnik to be an assist trophy…

Or a Boss in his stage…

        2. I honestly though Dark Samus was going to be a skin for normal Samus. I was somewhat disappointed by Midna being an assist but raises the chances for Ghirahim even more!

      1. Probably good, I almost fainted when I saw her, she’s my second favorite game character. I don’t like her ZZS form though but that’s just me.

    1. That’s fucked up. I wanted Dark Samus to be playable for years. Why can’t those Wii Fit characters be assist trophies instead and have Dark Samaus playable?

      That’s bull shit.

        1. That’s like saying how different would Ike be from Marth. Phazon can make all the attacks different and there’s plenty of other possibilities.

    2. My heart sank when I saw Ridley’s shadow :,( It’s a sad day for Metroid fans….

BUT A GREAT DAY FOR SMASH FANS! That Direct was amazing. I am blown away with all the inclusions, especially Greninja and Standalone Charzard. Brilliant move, I feel. I don’t miss Ivysaur or Squirtle one bit.

      1. Ridley DOES NOT WORK AS A PLAYABLE CHARACTER PERIOD. Sakurai knows that. What will it take for you to see that? For him to actually say, “Sorry but as long as I’m making the games Ridley will ever be playable!”

      2. I’m a huuuge Metroid fan, and I don’t want to see Ridley playable? Is that odd?
He’s much more frightening non-playable and that’s how it should always be

    3. Samus and dark Samus are pratically the same entity like Zelda and Emelda in a link between worlds just smile this game is awesome.

    4. Look at the bright side, you get Wii fit trainer instead. X.x. Good thing Nintendo is in tune with it’s fans.

      1. I find fighters boring and repetitive. Wasn’t impressed with mortal kombat or SF 2… So I haven’t played them in years

        1. Smash Bros is unlike ANY other fighter out there. Smash Bros is the best fighting game period. Street Fighter is the same shit over and over. Mortal Kombat isn’t much better.

                1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

                  Probably…

What we warriors remaining from the Great War call:

PTND = Post Traumatic Nostalgia Disorder…

                  1. Lol. You have some issues, with that being said I did like the snes area the best. ALTTP – best Zelda. Super Mario world – best Mario game

                2. Haha, I’m not. I just stopped playing fighters then. I liked marvel vs. Capcom a bit. I have a wii u and 3ds with most Nintendo titles

  1. Was hoping for 1 more third party character to be announced. Bomberman would be my pick. That’d be so amazing. But the 5 character reveals we got were good. People should start relaxing about the roster being smaller than Brawl. They just announced 5 characters in this direct. And there will certainly be more characters announced at E3. And maybe one or two kept secret and not announced at all.

Nice to get some info on the online and see some more of the stages.

Disappointed the Wii U version is coming much later than the 3DS version.

Not sure what to make of custom move sets yet.

      1. NARUTO CHARACTERS DO NOT BELONG ANYWHERE NEAR SMASH! THEY’RE FOURTH PARTY, NOT EVEN FROM A VIDEO GAME! Anyways, for a character to be in Smash they must:

A: Originate from a video game
B: Have a game on a Nintendo console
C: Must be a Nintendo character or a character from a company that is very close to Nintendo, like Sega or Capcom.

All 4 of the characters you listed only have accomplished requirement B.

    1. Infinite_Rubix_Cube

I wouldn’t expect Bomberman to be in the game. Hudson, the company that made Bomberman is out of business.

  2. I don’t really see why he said that was a direct we wouldn’t want to miss. All they really announced was Greninja. Everything else was pretty much a downer, such as transformations and character swops (ala Pokemon Trainer) have been removed, online is watered down, and not all the characters from Brawl and the ones missing from it will return.

    1. Online watered down? Wtf are you talking about? Online has been greatly improved. All the losers can play for fun while all the intelligent individuals such as myself will play for glory. If you self destruct or drop a lot you will get banned. Only flat stages with no items in for the glory. What more do you want?

        1. A fighting game isn’t really a game where you have to chat and strategize. That’s a nonsensical complaint, IMO.

          1. Oh look, a tryhard who lacks the capacity the fight someone AND the enviroment.
It’s ok, kiddie. Sakurai gave you a playground so you don’t have to drop out of non-FD matches that you’re afraid to fight in.
He gave you a place where your FD-only skillset can be honed without the game being “unfair” to you.

      1. I was annoyed that it was only Final Destination. Competitive players use battlefield and the basic kirby stages. If For Glory mode doesn’t have stages with some platforms it will be greatly unbalanced in favor of characters like Fox and Marth.

    2. Online isn’t watered down at all in this game since the Direct did reveal some additions to online modes and options. In fact, I’m only hoping this game won’t be a lagfest like Brawl was.

    3. ONLINE on the 3DS, 60 fps with 3d on or off. Just don’t be down celebrate. take all the info in and you shall see just how great this is.

    1. pink0crystal0midbus

Wow… are you surprised? I’m not. She is NEVER going to be a playable character.

Just saying. You are lucky she is an assist trophy. It’s where she belongs. I’m happy to see her there.

      1. I agree, I’m dissapointed that we won’t see a Metroid series newcomer (other than standalone ZSS), most of the options are gone, Ridley’s a boss, Mother Brain and Dark Samus are Assist Trophies, now we only have Adam and the Hunters left, and I think their chances are really really low…

        1. pink0crystal0midbus

Their chances are non-existant. We have one Metroid rep this time around 100%.

Wait… JK we have two. Samus and ZZS. ;)

              1. Look and Toon Link, Mario and Dr. mario and of course double characters on a single stage. Sure it’s uncanny but not completly ridiculous. Though I am sad to see they made those characters seperate especially as someone else could have been in those spots. :(

    2. Why do you think she’d make it as a playable character? She wasn’t even playable in the game she was in.

  3. First time I’ve been legitimately hyped by the new Smash Bros.

I don’t think I’ll buy a Wii U for it, but I’ll definitely give the 3DS version a try, then determine if I should get the console version once I decide to buy a Wii U for Monolith’s game.

  4. Gonna repost here, wanna discuss this:
I feel that the addition of Greninja and Charizard, is because Nintendo knows how bad the Wii U i doing, so they’re clinging onto their last straw – Pokemon. If they aren’t going to release a Wii U Pokemon game any time soon, they probably need to draw in the younger audience elsehow.
I realize that Sakurai is free to do with the Smash Bros series as he please, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo had something to do with the huge amount of Pokemon in this game, Pokeballs, stages and characters included.

    1. Not just because the Smash Bros series has always had pokemon then?

There’s only 4 playable Pokemon so far. Which is considerably less than the 8 playable Pokemon in Brawl.

And they’ve announced far fewer Pokemon from Pokeballs in the new game than the previous installments had. Brawl had over 30. The new game will probably have something similar but it’s not like they’re cramming the game with 700 Pokemon.

Nintendo are well aware of the Wii U situation, but that won’t have any effect on how many Pokemon are included in this game.

      1. Infinite_Rubix_Cube

I think you should rewatch the Charizard/Greninja trailer and take note of the pokemon that appear from the balls. It’s a good bet that those will be all of the pokemon that will be in the game.

    2. pink0crystal0midbus

I think they are just expanding the roster and adding characters from franchises that deserve them. Pokemon X and Y did exceptionally well the past few years so they more than deserve a new rep and the return of most of their older ones.

I hope Greninja doesn’t replace Jiggly though!

        1. But that would mean 5 pokemon representives, thats just crazy! I realize that Pokemon Trainer can be counted as 3 characters, but he only filled one character spot.

          1. Infinite_Rubix_Cube

Just look at how many Mario characters there are. Not counting Yoshi and the inevitable Wario, there are already 5 reps. Also, Pokemon is one of if not the most the most popular franchise Nintendo has, so logically it would make sense to have at least 5 reps from Pokemon.

  5. This was a awesome direct there’s so many ways to play smash bros the new dungeon mode aso looks awesome there was so much news in this smash bros direct lot’s of characters a bunch of game play new crazy specials I can’t wait for this to come out theres so much content in this game customized moves there’s a lot off stuff packed in this game

  6. Woah, what? WINTER?! Dang. Good thing I have a 3DS. And I’m sure many 2014 Wii U games will be here. But jeez. Winter… So that means it took almost 2 years to start selling Wii U’s?? Nintendo, I’m hyped for this game and all, but to be honest, more people will get it on the 3DS due to bigger fanbase and I fear that it may not sell enough on Wii U. :/

    1. pink0crystal0midbus

Judging by the lack of ummm… hrmmm. “pixels” your “boy” is actually a “girl.” ;)

Anyway, I am excited as well to use Greninja. Also, I wonder if Sakurai will cut out Jigglypuff? I know she is an original, but there is a first time for everything right? I certainly hope he doesn’t remove Jiggly, but maybe Greninja replaced her… maybe he is still adding Mewtwo which would almost certainly spell doom for the pink puff.

      1. greninja will always be my boy no matter which game he appears in. I wouldn’t mind jiggly being taken out. she’s overstayed her welcome in smash bros. much rather have mewtwo instead of her.

  7. This Direct must have started later than originally stated. Because when I tried tuning in at the proper time, nothing was playing. But later when I looked, it was already on.

        1. pink0crystal0midbus

Oh you haven’t heard? He isn’t. They are cutting back on clones and Lucas didn’t make the cut. Don’t worry as you can play as Ness with Lucas as a skin. It’s practically the same thing anyway.

  8. pink0crystal0midbus

Greninja is probably the biggest surprise character they have sprung on us since Wii Fit Trainer. I saw Megaman, Little Mac and Rosalina coming as well as an Animal Crossing rep (though I thought it would be Tom Nook).

Charzard, Sheik and ZSS as standalone characters are pretty awesome. I never thought of that as a possibility. Sakurai really knows how to change things up.

Also, I’m glad there was no sight of Snake ;)

    1. Infinite_Rubix_Cube

At first I was raging at my computer when Sakurai first said that ZSS wasn’t returning. Then he pulled a fast one on me. SAKURAAAIII!!!

      1. What’s so “faggoty” about Snake? Every time he’s introduced to a new female character, he just can’t help himself. ;)

  9. This is all great and all…..
BUT WHERE THE HELL IS CAPTAIN FALCON!? I’m actually scared he might be cut from the roster at this point, which is unfair since he’s the only F-Zero representative.

  10. this direct was terrible and medicore. where are the naruto or bleach character. were is the achievemets system or online chat. why does tekken on wiiu have better graphics than this.really nintendo same characters from brawl. am not buying this :P

    1. Yes because we really need a worthless achievement system and 12 year old crying online just like in call of duty. Also are you serious about Naruto? That’s the most overrated anime ever made and why in gods name would a character like that be in ssb?

    2. LOL! The Direct was shit ’cause non-NIntendo characters are not in this game! HAHAHA! XD

What a troll, always has been, always will be.

  11. Nintendo: hurry we need more characters ……..

PINK ICE CLIMBER JOINS THE BATTLE!
    ROCK PIKMIN JOINS THE BRAWL!
    YELLOW YOSHI RUNS IN!
    FOTM GENERIC POKEMON !
ZERO SUIT SAMUS! DID YOU LIKE THE FACT YOU HAD 2 CHARACTERS IN ONE SLOT? WE DIDN’T SO WE ARE SEPARATING THEM SO WE CAN HAVE A BIGGER ROSTER OF FUCKING BORING CHARACTERS , WHAT? YOU WANTED RIDLEY? MEWTWO? GRAHIM? FUCK YOU , IT MEANS MORE WORK IN THE MODELS SO FUCK YOU GIVE ME MONEY!

    Fuck.

    1. So, you’re judging a direct based on characters? Also missing the fact that not all characters have been revealed? Good logic.

      1. All i’m saying is that the Direct wasn’t worth a shit , they didn’t announce anything worth the time in other words , they fucked it up , i hope this isn’t the last super smash bros Nintendo Direct tough because if it is more of this bullshit i’m out! . Nintendo never listens to the fans.

and i really love Super smash brothers

          1. Online? the game had online in Brawl
i don’t give a fuck about the Online Mode because i already know it is going to be shit like the Brawl online mode

I care about the characters and the new modes

What am i expecting you say?
well more than this bullshit obviously

            1. So a good smash brothers direct to you is just tons of new characters added to the rooster and new battle modes? Also the online really does seem to be a pretty big improvment this type around as it was shown.

              1. The fact they recommend to buy the wii LAN adapter says a lot of things about the Online mode , the said the same about the Online Mode in Brawl

and yeah , I think most of us were expecting something more from this “Super smash bros Nintendo direct ” not just the same story mode we got in brawl , the same characters we got in brawl and a “FotM” pokemon who wipes his ass with everyone waiting in the line (another fire emblem character , mewtwo , Grahim , etc)

                1. They recommend LAN adapter, because most of you have shitty cable company freebie routers that do not handle WLAN properly.

I have never had any issue with my WLAN connection.

            2. Look I can see where this direct may have disappointed you but that does not mean the game will be bad. I’m sure e3 will be awsome and a couple of bad things does not mean the game will turn out terrible at least in my eyes. Will I have to go so see you later.

        1. They didn’t release anything interesting to YOU, but to thousand others we were all pretty pleased. If you don’t like what you see DON’T BUY IT! It’s as easy as that, Nintendo can afford one less sale.

          1. #I'M TRYING TO FIT IN WITH TRENDSETTERS WHICH ARE 12 YEAR OLD GIRLS

#IWATA: “WE CANNOTLO CONTINUE A BUSINESS WITHOUT WINNING.”

            # “IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, DON’T BUY IT.”
            (SOME TIME LATER)
“OH NO! WHY IS WII U FAILING?!”

            # “THOUSANDS OF OTHERS…LIKE ME, ME, AND ESPECIALLY ME!”

  12. i wish never interested in ssb games anyway. when i played it on wii, i got bored after one match. the combat in these ssd games are barebones to me and are awuful and uninteresting. i would rather have a naruto game for wiiu than play this overrated game.

    1. Brawl was and still is the worst entry in the smash series, it was simplified for casuals. This on the other hand actually looks promising.

By the way, Naruto is just a button masher, so please, dont compare the two, and yes, I played and own all the Ultimate Ninja games, Storm and heroes.

      Button-Mashing-Fest at its fullest.

      1. Please uderstand Wii U cannot handle Naruto fightning game cuz its weak-ass, shitty-ass, gay-ass product but please still by it so please understand.

  13. I’m glad that this Direct was a success, BUT, how the hell are the Kremlings on smash run? isnt the reason why Nintendo didnt use the Kremlings on the new DKCR games because supposedly rare(or MS) owned them? WTF

    1. Do people really still believe that? The Kremlings have appeared in some Mario games over the years. RARE NEVER OWNED THEM!

      1. Well isnt that the excuse that they used when they were asked why the kremlings were being replaced in the DKCR games? Or was that just a rumor that spiraled out like everything else on the internet?

        Shit now im actually annoyed.

  14. Very nice direct. Saw some really cool things in this one. Not particularly fond of Greninja, but oh well. Looking forward to it!

  15. I don’t see the point of the customizable movesets when I can’t use them online.against random people.

  16. I would love to see a game based on Sheik, it would be awesome, now it has a great moveset, make it happen Nintendo! :D I would also like to see a Saki Amamiya as a playable, but well… I know Mr. Sakurai is working really hard in these games and one thing is for certain, they are going to be pretty AWESOME! Can´t wait! Ah! I hope they share more info and hopefully more characters in this years E3

    1. Please understand we dont listin fans. Please understand we give you Chibi Robo not new Starfox, new F_Zero, new Sheikh game. Please understand I suck at speaking Egerish.

  17. The moment this game was announced at the Nintendo Direct E3 of 2013 I knew it would be inferior to Brawl in my opinion. Brawl has a far better line up of characters, it has a story mode which I like, a boss rush mode, a level editor, and so much more. This game feels really watered down from that. Anyways, I’m really happy I will get to play the 3DS version in the summer but I think this really shot any chances of Wii U selling better with this game. It’s only saving grace now will be the game will be released around the holiday season. Things I am hype for are the ranking system for online play, improved online play (hopefully lag free now), and the Smash run that was announced. Also the new weapons in the game look dope as hell. I’m glad we at least got Mother Brain and Dark Samus as assist trophies but I would like to see more of a Metroid presence in the playable roster. Not sure how I feel about separating Samus/ZSS and Zelda/Sheik but only time will tell if it was a good decision. I was sad to see Raiden is not a playable character nor will Snake be back. Oh well this entire generation in terms of innovation and software is inferior to the previous one in my opinion with the 3DS being the best platform. Let’s hope the next generation we see companies care about their fans and make the absolute best software they can that beats out previous software from generations past instead of watering down the games and making inferior versions. Finally, can’t wait for E3 2014. At least this Direct will hold me over until then.

  18. I know is too soon to speak but I have fears that Ness or Lucas might not return. We have 29 characters so far and sakurai said that the roster in this game is gonna be small compare to the other 3.

    1. I feel that Mess will be unlikely since Earthbound has came to the west, so we’ll have to just wait and see.

  19. Winter?
So that means the earliest we can expect the game is December?
Ok, I love Nintendo, I know they’re trying to make it the best game it can be, but this is the reason they’re failing.
Not the specs of the console, not the controller, it’s the fucking launch calendar, they still seem to be unable to see that the Wii U is not getting third party support and that it will not thrive with three games a year and a bunch of indie apps.
Where’s the launch date for Hyrule Warriors? X? Bayonetta 2? Anything on Zelda Wii U? SMTXFE? Yarn Yoshi?
The truth here is that the users are counting on Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. 4, and what will happen when MK8 launches in less than two months? We’re gonna have to wait until December for another decent game?
How does Nintendo think they can generate consumer loyalty by being this inconsistent with launches? Not even a fucking drop of information on ANYTHING other than MK8 or SSBB, do they think they can drive the sales of the console with the promise of a game IN FUCKING DECEMBER?
They need to start cranking games, I DON’T CARE IF IT’S FUCKING REMAKES OF WII AND GAMECUBE TITLES, they need to start putting games out there damn it.

    1. I think this should be nintendos biggest e3 announcement, they know how bad the wii u is doing and they know e3 is going to determine the future of the wii u. Hopefully they get their shit together.

  20. Nintendo Or Nothing

At the risk of people throwing cyber eggs at me, am I the only one who has always wished that characters from the Pokemon anime would appear in a Smash Bros. game? I want to see Ash Ketchum make his debut as the new Pokemon Trainer. And Team Rocket would be great too. I can already see them blasting off into the horizon just like on the anime. But whatever……..I can always dream can’t I?

    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

The only thing I somewhat agree with is Team Rocket, but I’d rather see them as an Assist Trophy just coming out in different costumes each time saying their variations of their motto and you can then blast them away right after…

  21. Lemme get this straight…they’re trying to convince me to buy a Fail U for that version of Smash Bros., through this video, while announcing better exclusive features for the 3DS?!

    [FAIL]

    1. That’s a good way of seeing it. I’m sure others see it the same. But they havent announced everything for the wii u yet so hold that breath. Or dont.

  23. Nintendo…. you’re doing it again… 3DS is getting more attention.. I knew this wasn’t worth waiting for.

  24. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

People already assuming that this is everything the games have to offer, specially the Wii U version…

First of all, there are probably a few more characters remaining to be confirmed, one of them being Captain Falcon for sure…

I’m hoping Ganondorf makes it or atleast Ghirahim or Byrne…

Jigglypuff might be replaced but probably not…

    I hope Lucas returns…

    Falco needs to be back…

And for the love of the holy N, add a new Metroid and F-zero character…

No more Mario characters or Pokemon…

  25. This direct sucked, this game is going to flop on wii u,not only because of fans getting it on 3ds only but because there’s no cross platform multi player online and offline modes for Wii U and 3ds,also because the Wii u version is a watered down version of Brawl, less characters, and barely improved graphics, this game is a desperate lazy cash grab on Nintendo’s part, not only will the 3ds version get higher ratings then the Wii u version and actually sell more, but the Wii U version will also be outsold by Brawl and also score less, infact Melee will also score more then the Wii U version and even prove to have sold more

    Please understand RIP Wii U

    1. Good god, man! Did you even take the dick out of your mouth to watch the Direct??

Seriously, if you’re trying to be funny or something… you’re failing horribly.
Maybe you’re at the intellectual level where you might want to only chime in sparingly because, chances are what you say will be the verbal equivalent of taking your dick out to slap people with it but we just end up laughing at how small it is… and, god forbid, actually start to pity you.

  26. Is everyone still complaining about WFT? Just because nobody wants your dumbass character requests doesn’t mean nintendo is “Out of touch” though they are, this direct proved A LOT. Hell “For Glory” alone says enough (nodding at the competitive crowd a bit) But as far as characters go, sorry that he can’t make 128+ character roster that includes but isn’t limited to Ridley,Master Chief,Mewtwo,Peter Griffin,Nathan Drake, Spongebob, Jesus, McGruff the Crime Dog, Underdog, Wonder Red,Blue,Pink,Yellow,Black and White,Superman,Batman,Spiderman,Patrick Star, Homer Simpson, Kenny,A stick figure,Lil Wayne, A Toilet, A photo booth, A screenshot and a plunger (not marios) and for all of you MORONS talking about how the 3ds version will do better than the wii u version…Really? A Handheld doing better than a console version? Regardless of install base, Smash will always be better on a tv than a 3 inch screen. Not to even mention the fact that judging from the direct…the wii u version…is the “definitive version” >.>” I’m honestly okay with the release window, While I wish it was also summer or some shit, I’m fine with winter..because winter means “SMASH BROS 4 BRACK FRIDAY BUNDARU” fucking degenerates.

    1. Oh I love this comment x’D
Especially when you pointed out the characters people want, so accurate xD

    1. I’m just gonna reply to this with:

Hello, I like toast. It’s very good in my tummy. I like to eat it. It tastes yummy.

    2. Is that all you ever say “Damage Control”? Is that like the only thing that you can say without providing circumstantial evidence over and over and over.

      Damage flooding at its fullest.

    1. I think that’s in a four player context.

Like maybe you’re facing two players who are on the same console and they just gang up on you then fight themselves.

    2. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

      I think it’s somewhat of a silly reason…

I mean specially on the -For Glory- mode…

If someone no matter how good or bad they are enters that mode then anything goes is what I say…

And that’s why it’s a game aswell, anyone has a chance to defend themselves unlike the worthless piece of crap that is reality…

      1. If somwone is not enjoying themselves because they are being unwarrantly tarfetted… well, that needs to not happen.

Hopefully if the matchmaking is accurate, this should be an infrwquent iasuw.

  27. You can’t get everything…. people should just be happy it’s even coming out this year… and there are a lot of characters so, Idk… looks pretty good to me

  28. I am convinced the Wii U version should break their same line-up rule with DLC down the line. It should still start with the same line-up and then slowly trickle out new fighters and stages at $2.00 a piece or $5.00 for 3 and mirror the FE: Awakening price structure for the year after it’s initial release.

will they do this? probably not. but to me, it just makes sense.

  29. People really need to stop with the bullshit complaining. If the game disappoints you that much, don’t buy it. Dispite the so-called shortcomings from this direct ( If Any), what was presented here got alot of fans excited including me. I swear, its like this site is full of children. I can guarantee that this game WILL be a success on BOTH platforms. So shut up and enjoy the show………Bitches
