Nintendo Wanted Platinum’s Bayonetta To Show More Skin In Link Costume

Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto revealed during a Treehouse segment during this week’s E3 that Nintendo suggested to Platinum that Bayonetta shows more skin in the Link outfit. Platinum originally put an undershirt beneath Bayonetta’s Link costume, but it was Nintendo who suggested they get rid of it.

“Speaking during a Nintendo Treehouse livestream, Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto said that PlatinumGames worked with Nintendo’s designers on each new costume that they created. Hashimoto said that, initially, there was an undershirt beneath Bayonetta’s Link costume, but that Nintendo suggested they get rid of it, since it wasn’t fitting of Bayonetta’s character.”

“Hashimoto joked that he was surprised Nintendo would suggest that, but PlatinumGames went ahead and removed the undershirt, giving the costume its final form that you see above.”

    1. I’m going to have so much fun with bayonetta !! Preordered already ;D two games for the price of one, nice deal !!! I’m happy I didn’t played the first one.

    1. That they know her sex appeal is part of her charm and there’s nothing wrong with that.

    1. why, Zelda doesn’t do much out side of smash, and spinoffs. Her costume doesn’t need to be based off a girl

      1. Who’s to say the costumes are limited to these three? And even if that’s the case, maybe it’s just developer’s preference.

    2. I don’t mind that at all.

Link’s outfit tends to look surprinsingly good, better even, on women. Just look up some cosplayers

  1. Nintendo has its 18+ moments :P.

Love hotels, this, eternall darkness ip…..over boobed samus .

this doesn’t really surprise me but in this case that it was Platinum making the game……yea, quiet a surprise.

  2. Not that I play Bayonetta, but she looks terrible in those outfits. Not every third party character has to have bonus Nintendo character outfit DLC. But as I said, I don’t play Bayonetta, so it doesn’t affect me. Just giving my opinion.

    1. I agree. These costume DLCs look plain bad. I don’t care for the game anyway.

    2. Yeah, they don’t look very good… Almost clownish, but it’ll be fun for those of us waiting for the game… Not sure if Princess Peach will be happy she’s become a sex-symbol. Might drive up commerce in the Mushroom kingdom. Lol

      1. Hey if you dont like the costume dont choose it if you play it. This is an awesome bonus as an exclusive along with the prequel. Which I hope has addedn content if not I’d still be happy.

    1. If they were going to go to the PS4, better off going to the PC as it has a much bigger base, cheaper to develop for and would have better graphics.

    2. But they didn’t want to make bayonetta 2 in the first place but nintendo funded it

      1. Turns out that they did want to make it but bayonetta 2 wouldn’t exist without nintendo funding

    3. Maybe if your empire paid about 20 billion dollars then we could share it…

    4. Then Bayonetta 3 will have much worse abysmal sales on Ps4 then go to steam and next Nintendo console.

    5. For the guy calling himself Sony Emperor, you don’t know much about their dealing with Platinum Games. Sony didn’t even want to help fund Bayonetta 2 for their PS3 or PS4. So why in the world would they want to fund Bayonetta 3? Oh right! If it sells a shit ton on the Wii U, they’ll want to fund it then because it has a bigger buyer base than before. And I’ll laugh if Platinum Games tells them “fuck no!”

    6. If your prediction doesn’t come true, I’m gonna come back to ridicule you, and you’ll never hear the end of it. Just like I did with people who thought the world would end 2012.

  3. You can tell this E3 nintendo tried to cater to their mature demographic :D loli squidgirls, devils third, hyrule warriors fanservice, bayonetta boobies :o

    1. Why is it that shooters are for hard core gamers and games like Bayonetta are for more mature? I think you may mean more horny and teen aged. lol. I don’t think looking at violence and scantily clad females means I’m more mature. I get what you’re saying, I just wanted to have a little fun with it.

      1. Like Valentina’s boobs that jiggled when they’re hit in the E rated Super Mario RPG. XD

      2. I hate to break it to you, but Marketing 101. Sex sells.
Nintendo paid to finish Bayonetta, not to purchase the IP so they could water it down so 5year olds can play it. Frankly, I’m surprised they didn’t dress her in a head to toe uniform, cover all skin, remove all violence and turn it into Bayonetta, Mario Party edition.

If I’m going to play a game based on a witch who curses, beats the shit out of people, uses her body and hair as a weapon,…then yeah, loose the undershirt. Why the hell would Bayo wear an undershirt? She’s modest? Umm nope.

It’s like taking the guns out of call of duty. If your going to Change the IP, what was the point of finishing the game?

Anyway. Baby steps for Nintendo, but steps forward nonetheless.

      3. Baby steps?

Nintendo owns love hotels buddy LOL.

Shit Sony and MS have censored shit more than nintendo LOL.

Hell they took one of Nintendo’s properties ( Conker’s Bad Fur Day) and censored the shit out of that and BMX XXX on the Xbox and the PS2 respectively

  4. Is it me or does this game look even better than the e3 Show? And not because Bayonetta is one sexy bitch…

    1. Say because she isn’t wearing Kratos or Master Chief Costumes…. oh wait that’s right, YOU XBOTS AND SONY PONIES AREN’T GETTING THIS! ;D

    1. Yeah, probably an attempt at being respectful to the company that helped them finish it. PG knows Nintendo is a system designed to be played by younger kids, and adults that enjoy the game play. It was nice of PG to offer out of respect for a kid company. But I’m glad Nintendo had the balls to say no.

    2. I think Nintendo have ordered Kamiya-san to remove the undershirt from the Link costume for Bayonetta.

  5. is it just me, or would bayonetta be awesome if it didn’t have girls in it?

seriously, the dork-girl being sexy thing is just lame.

imagine playing New Super Mario Bros 3 with baoynetta pole dancing in the background. or how about a mario kart stage where you race up and down bayonetta! … seriously, get this sex crap out of my games.

    1. It’s their idea, they have the right to do as the please, why can’t be girl be sexy the way she wants? The thing happen to samus

    2. Yoshi’s Yarn comes out in 2015. Also Kirby Triple deluxe is out.

There have been nothing but games made for you the last two years. Give those that want some action, adult language and fan service a break. We’ve waited this fucking long.

      1. you can’t go out and steel a car without going to jail … you need a game for that.

bayonetta? … you just need to get a girlfriend.

      2. Oh? Can he take control of his girlfriend & make her do things? No, he can’t. Not without becoming a worthless piece of shit that thinks a woman is just there for his own self gratification.

      3. You could also just go and actually play tennis instead of playing Mario Tennis, or actually play soccer instead of FIFA. But that’s not why we’re all gamers, is it?

    3. No. This game has a strong female lead & I’m glad it’s that way. Also, do you got a problem with women wearing glasses? Some women look hotter with glasses on. If you think otherwise, that’s your problem. As for the sex “crap,” simple solution to your problem. Don’t buy it.

    1. she should walk like that throughout all bayonetta games … she’s already a ridiculous character.

  6. She just looks plain bad imo. To whoever says sex sells, I don’t think it’ll help this time around xD I think people are done with the unrealistic female sex symbol archetype.

    1. DLC will be errect nipples, camel toes and weapon deep-throating

Bayonetta 3’s tagline – “prolapse origins”

  7. I agree with Nintendo’s choice. It’s not very “Bayonetta” if she isn’t flaunting her cleavage, at least.

  8. Nintendo just proves that they know how to use censorship, or lack off, depends on the theme/setting of a game and if it’s really appropriate. Disproving the stereotype against Nintendo that states, “Nintendo is just for kids.”

    1. Yeah. It’s sad that these “mature” gamers refer to anything family friendly as being “for kids.” If liking family friendly stuff makes me immature, I don’t want to be mature.

  9. I think all this costumes looks funny to her oh well but still going to be fun

  10. This game is M rated and bayonetta is already a sexual character, why did they have the undershirt to begin with?

  11. All the people dissing the outfits & dissing the game altogether are either stiff/close-minded adults, people pissed off it’s not coming to the other systems, mad she’s wearing outfits they think should never be in because the outfits are of family friendly characters, or idiots that have a problem with strong female leads. Either way, as Reggie said: Not my problem!

Anyway, I can’t wait for this game to come out. Day 1 buy if I can find it at a Walmart or Gamestop in the nearby town.

  12. The actual in game characters (as seen at E3) are far sexier than those seen in that awful pic. Its like they tried to least sexiest picture of the costumes that they possibly could to appease Bayonetta 1 fans and troll passionate Nintendo gamers .. sigh .. it worked, I got trolled .. but make no mistake when you play as Bayonetta, Samus you’re gonna have an absolute blast.
