EA Explains Why It Brings Games To Smart Devices Instead Of Nintendo 3DS

The chief operating officer of EA, Peter Moore, has explained why his company prefers developing titles for smart devices instead of Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita. The company, which stopped producing titles for the two dedicated gaming handhelds, thinks that opting for smartphones and tablets would provide more favorable results in the long run.

“We were supportive of both of those platforms,” Moore said. “But then you’ve got finite resources and you’ve got teams that say, ‘We really think that two or three years from now, these are the platforms that people are going to be consuming games on.’ And you look at the quality of what you can do on phones and tablets… Sometimes strategy is not about what you do but what you don’t do, and you have to make some hard calls when you’ve got only so many people. To my point, we’ve got to be planning for FY 17 and 18. Do you think the Vita and 3DS are going to be around in some shape or fashion by then on a scale level?”

    1. I do care. And I wish they were on Nintendo consoles. I don’t own any other consoles so I can’t go anywhere else to play them.

      1. Then go be their sucker and waste cash on Spyware “Origin” supported, reskinned microtransaction garbage.

        1. That’s not exactly what I was saying. I was talking about being able to play more third party games on Wii U.

          1. That’s fair. But, EA games have decreased drastically in quality or longevity as of late. There’s still a number of good third party titles on both platforms.

      2. I was a Sony only gamer last gen.
The only game I like from EA is command and conquer…… on my pc ….

I understand your point, but honestly, besides sport games, what do they offer?

    1. See the thing is that I don’t think that phones well exist in 17 years, and by the way that Microsoft is making the surface and next windows, as the way that android is going I think tablets well take over 80+% of computer consumption because of the power they can have. But I think at that point the game industry well have dramatic changes (as it always dues) I think that both home and handheld systems well be very different devices in that time, its dumb to invest in that future either way knowing that

      1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

In 17 years, holograms will be the norm, similar to the Holocaster in Pokemon X/Y…

But even more likely, humans will be extinct…

This is EA. I’m sure they can manage to release two more games for the 3DS. This is just them using an excuse as to why they won’t “support” the 3DS since a lot of people have been saying “They won’t support the Wii U because of a low install base, so what’s their excuse for why they aren’t supporting the 3DS? They are full of shit!” Well now they have one. lol

  1. It’s because EA knows how dumb casuals are. XD So they go for the chance to suck up all their money.

    1. “It’s because EA knows how dumb casuals are.” Oh my goodness… This sentence itself couldn’t be any truer.

Yea its a cash grab and go. Check out the Simpsons Tap Out game. It makes pull your hair out. A good show on a greedy corporate. Who knew!

    2. And say Nintendo is worse. XD At least we’re not brain dead to realize how selfish, dumb and lazy EA is.

  3. this is a spin, and a pretty bad one at that. They see the profits being made by a few developers and think they can get that income, which of course is actually a dev death trap. It costs them less to develop the games, but with he plethora of other games around most users wont get on a game unless its popular, free, simple and of course free.
This is about the money they think they can line their pockets with. They see the simple, and they expect large income. Mobile development is the developer equivalently to a slot machine, you put many small games out in hopes for a jackpot. And that jackpot is not going to least you long, its a short term victory.

    1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

THANK YOU!!! But no! Apparently even shitty games is better than no support at all! Like those people defending Ubisoft that they are “supporting” the Wii U.

    2. Reskinned FIFA 13.1 as FIFA 14 said it all and they dare grow some nerve to say we don’t support them without reason…

That shady FIFA rehash BS they did and tried to hide is exactly why. Theyre fucking greedy and stupid. They only survive to wooing the other stupid people to throw money at them because they’re EA, always spamming trash for quick buck drug dosage relief on a video game level.

        1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Did you just really equate Mario with EA’s shit? xD Why am I not surprised. Dumbass.

  4. Well when people get sick of playing crappy games with touch controls and nothing but microtransactions, get back to us. Actually not like I care, I don’t give EA a dime for this specific reason, bunch of stupid ass greedy noobs.

Stop bullshitting people and just say “That is where the money is at” or “casuals are stupid, so we can easily sell our re-skinned games to them.”

The support they have shown on the Vita and 3DS has been a complete joke anyway, sorry were aren’t as stupid to buy your garbage re-skinned games over and over. EA does some super shady stuff, that should be completely illegal but leave it to every idiot to buy their crap anyway.

  5. Ummm no, after seeing what kinda crap people make for tablets (games, apps, or accesories) i really dont feel like wasting any of my hard earned money on them.

    1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

lol Oh my god! I haven’t even watched the video & I know what that is supposed to be used for!

    2. This is something I know that self-racist loser Sasori would love to have next to his gorilla mom. XD

  6. While the mobile market will continue to strip away at dedicated gaming devices, it will really only be taking the casuals that bought the Wii. Real gamers looking for the best gaming experience will keep buying PC, PS, Xbox and Nintendo. These companies are going to just have to learn to adapt and accept that. Less consoles sold, but a better attach rate for those consoles because the purchasers are hardcore. This benefits Nintendo the most because they make money from software too. But it also means they need to really start competing with the others on specs starting next gen. I say this because I think the amount of non indie studios producing big budget multi plat games will shrink further. Nintendo needs to be able to offer those remaining multi plats so they will truly have an advantage over the competition.

    1. I really don’t even care anymore at this point. I’m buying a PC for third party. Even if they get full support for the next console. It’s gotten out of hand. I think I’m going to wait a year or 2 to see what they bring out for it.

        1. I’m not buying a PC just for EA. Lol. But I won’t actually be buying one until I get my console fix anyway. There are only a few games that I’m interested in like NFS and possibly The Sims. Could care less about Dragon Age, Battlefield, etc. And Origin is the worst thing ever.

  7. Back in the early 2000’s EA was actually very cool, now they are one of the most hated companies in the industry. It’s a shame these guys are behind Star Wars Battlefront 3.

    1. Nintendo gamers can continue to hate them all they want, but if Nintendo wants to stay competitive with Sony and NSA they will need to pay EA to put their games on their system, either that or buy Capcom.

      1. Fuck this all day shit about Nintendo buying Capcom.

If Nintendo would buy Capcom it would screw them, first of all Capcom is too big, too expensive and too incapable for Nintendo. Also Capcom has lots of issues going and if Nintendo were to buy them it would be them that would had to deal with those issues and Nintendo doesnt wanna sort Capcoms problems now that they have to sort their own problems first, just fuckin think for a while. When Nintendo said they were looking into acquisitions they meant smaller, affordable and capable devs like PlatinumGames etc. And Nintendo paying for Ea to make games for WiiU wont save them. I doubt anyone has ever bought Nintendo system for Ea game or that Ea game was Nintendo´s system seller, NO system sellers were always from either Nintendo or Rare.

Its WiiU´s name and bad marketing that hurts it, just face it dude, people have been buying Nintendo systems since N64 era knowing that Nintendo doesnt have much 3rd party support.

Look at Ps4, its best games are Ps3 ports or crossgeneration games like Destiny. Its overpriced weak gaming Pc wannabe and it does well because it is marketed well. When Ps2 launched it was the same story, games werent anything to brag about but they marketed it well with Dvd features and such. Geeeeezzzzzzz

          1. Goos thing too. Its full of obvious illogic fanboy BS only pointing fingers at Nintendo because to his dumbass, its cool to hate on Nintendo for unproven reasons so he can get internet friends since its incapable to get real friends outside.

              1. Fool in what way, in realizing that Capcoms days are gone and investing in them would be a fuckin disaster and would make any company that invests in them lose more money than gain it.

                  1. Tell me about it. Its funny that when you bring facts to the table they get all emotional, i think some people still feel nostalgic about Capcom and cant face the truth. But i do hope they wont lose their sleeps tonight.

                1. Capcom isn’t dead just yet and their demise was their own doing. But if Nintendo does indeed buy out Capcom, image Nintendo having all of those IPs in their hands. All they need is the right studio and ideas to bring those games back to life and they won’t need another greedy, lazy, backstabbing 3rd party anymore. No more of Ubisoft’s lies, no more of EA’s BS greed, no more of Activision’s excuses and no more late gimped crap from those jerkoffs.

              2. I wouldn’t say a fool, but just incorrect. I definitely agree with you guys on everything else though.

                1. The sad part is that they have no idea how wrong they are, they just assume they are right. It happens to alot of people I guess its human nature or something, but I’m glad there are a few sensible people here.

                  1. Yeah, Don’t worry Nintendo can afford to buy Capcom or its IPs and if they consider it, their will be alot of great games for us Wii U owners to enjoy so we all win.

        1. Nintendo can definitely afford 51% of Capcoms shares. I am a little tired of hearing this though, but it would be cool if it happened.

          1. Yeah i like the idea of Nintendo to make Capcom good again and all, but business wise i have a feeling that Nintendo dont wanna sort Capcoms problems anytime soon since they are in trouble themselfs. If Nintendo would be making profit however it could be a different story but things are harder than ever for Nintendo now and they need to think their every move carefully.

            1. Actually come to think of it, I dont think Nintendo would even know what to do with Cap’s IPs. HELL THEY DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR OWN SHIT.

              1. I dont get you, first you want Nintendo to get Capcom so Nintendo would do what basically is Capcoms job in the first place, idiots like you expect Nintendo to make risky investment because you all think Nintendo would do a new Megaman game or whatever but you all fail to understand that its Capcom´s job to provide you those Capcom ip´s and not Nintendo.

                1. sorry :( no need to insult me but I never said I wanted Nintendo to buy Capcom, I said if they want to stand a chance against the other two console manufacturers, asshole.

                  1. Yep if they wanna stand a chance against MS and Sony they shouldnt buy Capcom because it would make them weaker by losing lots of fuckin cash. Just think for a while, idiot. Nintendo is not making profit and they dont wanna lose more money by buying a giant waste that has issues itself and cant even make much good games anymore.

                    1. Dude you are pissing me off. Getting key franchises like Resident Evil and Monster hunter could put the Wii U ahead of the other consoles.

                    2. Yeah Capcom=Giant waste just like Sega and Rare nowadays. Nintendo wont magically make their shitty games better and wont make their games even sell in the first place, thus making investing in Capcom a waste.

                    3. I respect your opinion, but instead of getting into a heated and pointless argument with 5 people, just ignore them and move along.

                2. Why would that matter? We need to stop worrying about Nintendo’s money and just worry about the games instead. Like others have said, it would be a good idea because they can have their IP’s like Mega Man, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, etc. Nintendo would definitely benefit from it in the future. And so would us gamers.

                  1. Dude, because the more Nintendo loses money the LESS we will see games, just look at companies that lost all their money by not caring enough of their financial situation like Sega with Shenmue. Look where Sega is now after they didnt care about their money, yes exactly they are in stuck creating only Sonic games. Sure Nintendo has money but they are losing it and if they lose it all the time they will end up like Sega. And i dont wanna see that happening and thats why Nintendo needs to carefully plan where they put their money in order to get profit.

And in the end it doesnt matter, in the end Nintendo doesnt care what we gamers want. In the end its all about the money, which means that Nintendo wont bother buying those shares from Capcom. Facts are facts and Dreams are dreams, its good to know where goes the line.

                    1. Lol no. Nintendo already has millions upon billions of dollars and they still haven’t made games like Metroid Prime 4 and Super Mario Galaxy 3. Nintendo not buying Capcom isn’t gonna make them any better than they already are. The only thing that’s gonna happen is that us gamers don’t get any Capcom games. And the Wii U would be even better if it had Capcom games like Mega Man and Resident Evil! Don’t worry about cash! They got that covered!

        2. But dude…….think of what would happen if Microsoft bought Capcom. We could all kiss every game and series made by Capcom goodbye. Because Microsoft would kill them all, the same way they killed Banjo Kazooie. If ANYONE buys Capcom, it should be Nintendo. They would aquire SO many powerhouse franchises.

          1. Yeah it should be Nintendo that buys Capcom i agree, i would rather see Nintendo owning Capcom than Ms. But think about it business wise, think about how big investment it would be for Nintendo. They have been making loss in what 3 years now? Capcom hasnt been doing good business either thats why they are in this situation and i doubt Nintendo wants to risk losing more money by acquiring Capcom because Nintendo has plenty of stuff to solve themselfs.

And what comes to Ms i doubt they wanna buy Capcom, yes Ms has money but i think they have learned that making big investments like when they bought Rare wont always go as planned. Basically its been worthless for Microsoft that they bought Rare because they havent bringed even a fraction to Microsoft what they spend on them. I doubt Ms wants to experience the same with Capcom.

        3. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Don’t bother. Nick is one of those idiots that think Nintendo is the problem, not 3rd parties.

          1. Fucking stupid no wonder Nintendo doesnt listen to us because idiots like you dont even know whay the fuck you are talking about.

          2. And you’re one of those idiots that doesn’t realize the trouble Nintendo has gotten itself into.

              1. Nintendo buying Capcom would put Capcom on the right track, Nintendo would get many popular IPs and tons of exclusives that people would buy a Wii U for.

                1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

You cannot put some other empire on the right track until our own corrects it’s own path first…

Luckily it’s beginning to do so…

              2. Not realizing that with Capcom’s IPs under their grasp and direction and knowing that Nintendo knows Capcom as long as they know themselves, they can and will put Capcom games back on the right path. They can simply sell some IPs off while keeping those that are relevant and hire the right studio to make them like Comcept with Inafune can resume making Megaman again.

          3. It seems that way lol its just a shame that not many people on this site cant even use common logic. What Nintendo would gain from buying Capcom? Yeah bunch of forgotten ip´s and more loss.

Nintendo is seeking to acquire small devs that are capable of doing something big and are affordable, like Retro was back in the day. Capcom is basically just a name from the past kinda like Sega and Rare, just not as bad yet but they are going to that direction.

            1. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

You know you make so many damn good points. I thought the same way like the others, but there is so much logic it’s undeniable.

              1. Believe me, as a gamer it is my dream too that Nintendo would have all those Capcom ip´s under their belt and that those games would be best industry has to offer, but i just cannot ignore facts and let my personal dream get most of me, because the reality can be cruel and what eventually may happen to Capcom would come as a huge dissapointment.

          4. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Anonymous & French fries, I’m talking about 3rd party support. I know Nintendo makes mistakes but only 3rd parties have themselves to blame as to why their games don’t sell.

            1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Oh & to clarify things, I’m a supporter of Nintendo buying Capcom’s shares & making them a 2nd party developer.

              1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

I would personally want High Command to buy the most succesful franchises the Capconians have to offer…

Resident Evil, Mega Man, Monster Hunter and possibly Street Fighter and leave the leftovers…

                1. Now this would make much more sense than investing in Capcom as a whole. Actually i wish that Capcoms goes for bankcrupty and then Nintendo and others would have a chance to get the best pieces of Capcom. MH and RE in particular. But theres also a risk that shitty dev like Sega would get its hands on a ip like RE LOL it would be another Aliens haha.

                  1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

It would be absolutely hilarious if the Segans bought them and then our empire bought Sega, 2 humans with one blow…

But most of all, I want the Resident Evil franchise to be bought and rebooted from scratch and the enourmous butthurt the Nintendo haters will receive will be a great bonus…

                    1. Lets just hope Nintendo stays as far as they can from Sega LOL but yeah it would be hilarious if Sega got some of the classic Capcom ip´s in their hands, think about if Sega made crappy RE and that game would go in NO.1 spot in UK like Aliens did LMAO!

Actually Sega is another company that would be cool to see going bankcrupty so Nintendo would get some of their ip´s on their hands like Sonic,PanzerDragoon, SkiesOfArcadia and stuff.

P.s isnt it funny that this article is about EA and no one gives a shit arguing about EA, instead people argue here about Capcom LOL

                      1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

                        Ahahahahahaha indeed…

The Electrons are just so obsolete within our empire and it’s all thanks to their own making…

If Alien Isolation is another flop then I the Segan’s time for glory has ended for good…

                      2. Oh man, w/ SEGA comes ATLUS. Shin Megami Tensei, among their other RPG IPs (Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre), would be Nintendo’s. But just on SEGA’s surface, Nintendo would have Skies of Arcadia, NiGHTS, Shining Force, Virtua Fighter, Phantasy Star, House of the Dead, Shinobi, Shenmue, Billy Hatcher, Toe Jam & Earl… Oh man. & maybe Sonic would truly return.

As far as Capcom goes, aside from the more obvious IPs, Nintendo would have Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Onimusha, Ace Attorney, their vs. series… & by getting Capcom & thus Viewtiful Joe & Okami, Nintendo might get Platinum, too, or even more support from them.

                  2. Marvel vs Capcom and Dead Rising would be cool too but nowhere near as good as the four you mentioned.

                      1. From what I heard, Capcom had an exclusive license with Marvel to use their characters in the series, the license could be expired by now so im not sure :P

                      1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Dumbfuck. You’re a damn fool if you think Nintendo would turn Resident Evil into a kid friendly game franchise! Apparently you missed the article where Nintendo told Platinum to make sure the Nintendo costumes fit Bayonetta’s personality. No. The truth is you’re afraid of it become a Nintendo exclusive like the rest of the Nintendo haters because that means they’ll have to buy a Nintendo console if they want to play any of Capcom’s big titles ever again.

                        1. When you think about it, the Nintendo exclusive Resident Evils are the best in the series. REmake=Nintendo exclusive. RE4=temporary Nintendo exclusive. RE revelations= temporary Nintendo exclusives… Nintendo and Resident Evil are a damn good match :D

                    1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

I was referring to his idea of Nintendo paying EA for their games. Also Nintendo doesn’t need to sell out their ways to stay competitive with Sony. They are doing just fine in that area since they aren’t really trying to compete.

                2. Yeah, but it’s not just because of the Wii U. Nintendo never has really gotten many third party games for their past systems, and even if Wii U got every 3rd party game from launch up until now, it still wouldn’t sell, because of how people think about Nintendo. They think that they are family friendly and “kiddy”. It just wouldn’t work. Maybe Nintendo might get full third party support one day, but it’s a shame Wii U couldn’t have been that console. I really wanted it to.

              2. Yah, but its sort of Nintendo’s fault for giving the third party the “its not next gen” reason

            2. While I’m not going to say that grabbing Capcom won’t be a risk, the benefits far outweigh the risks. Capcom is not “too expensive”, in fact, right now they are not very valuable at all. As for the issues, they don’t matter in the long run. Nintendo would just want the development teams and the IP, that’s all. They will probably close down and sell off anything they don’t want, fixing a lot of those problems. Nintendo never ruled out larger acquisitions. In fact, Iwata specifically mentioned “mergers and acquisitions”. Mergers are only done between companies that are equals, so clearly, a larger acquisition or merger is on the table. Of course, neither of us is Iwata, so we can’t really say what he’s thinking. Other than that, I agree with what you said

              1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

A merger with Capcom would be awesome. The question would be what will the name be if they merged with Capcom instead of buying their shares to make them 2nd party if Capcom is against the idea of abandoning the name of Capcom. Nintendo Capcom? Or Capcom Nintendo? Or would they do something along the lines of those nicknames for couples like with Brangelina? xD

                1. More than likely, just Nintendo, since the Nintendo name is worth much more to the average consumer. Also, all those portmanteau combined publisher names like TecmoKoei, SquareEnix, and NamcoBandai are beyond stupid, especially when they start switching the names around.

                  1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Koei Tecmo just sounds cooler to me. As for Square Enix, I sure do hope they aren’t in the process of mimicking KT & NB/BN. Enix Square just doesn’t roll off the tongue right. :/

          5. I would rather suck off Ubisoft’s BS than even think about selling myself out to the likes of E-fucking-A just so they can shove Microtrans, Origin and annual spammed garbage up our asses to fill their pockets with easy money that they have never deserved.

Nintendo doesn’t have to cramp Spyware..sorry, “Origin” into their systems as a default online infrastructure. Its stupid and nobody but oblivious, fandork morons worshipping EA as their Satan of games, likes anything about EA anymore and its not just Nintendo gamers. Its everyone with a functional brain from all sides clearly sees what EA is capable of: Robbing you blind with garbage every 10 months.

            1. origin is not even bad idiot. i’ve used it and its great. battlefield 3 works will with origin. there cheap sales in origin. origin is even better than that crappy eshop.

              1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

That’s it, puppet. Keep sucking EA’s dick, bitch. xD Social reject Sasori right here, guys!

                1. Lol you guys really do hate Sasori. I don’t remember you calling him such strong insults before. XD He must’ve finally pissed you off enough I guess.

                  1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Sexist comments, insulting Miyamoto, calling Martin Luther King Jr overrated. Hell yeah, I’m pissed. It’s one thing when he’s constantly insulting Nintendo itself & the games they make but insulting the actual people that enjoy entertaining people is going too far. Oh & insulting the very man that has given sasori the chances to be the way he is on the internet. In the old days, he would have been a dead man if he came across the wrong people & insulted them. Kid or not.

              2. it’s good for you because you don’t apy for anything…your parents pay for everything you use stupid moron

          6. Nintendo does not EA. EA doesn’t bring anything to the table. I haven’t bought an EA game in six years and I personally do not feel that I’ve missed out on anything.

EA knows that casual gamers are more than happy to buy micro transactions. EA is following the easy dollar. Just take a look at EA’s mobile offerings and you’ll see exactly what they are all about.

          7. They really don’t need EA, and EA’s fucked off anyway by trying to pull Origin on Nintendo’s products. EA brings considerably little to the table nowadays, beyond sports galore.

      2. Pingback: EA’s Peter Moore on why the company favors Smart Devices over 3DS | Nintendo Everything

      3. PotatoesForEverybody

What EA is saying makes no sense. The 3DS is up over 40 million sold, so why are they barely putting out any games for it? It’s been out for 3 years, and for 2 years of that it’s been selling very well yet they’ve barely released anything for it.

The reality is, their games are the polar opposite of what Nintendo customers want. All EA makes now is sports games, “shoot people in the face” games, and bi-yearly iterations of Need For Speed. They’re not putting their games on Nintendo platforms because most of their games suck! And that’s not the fault of the dev’s, it’s the fault of the company itself.

EA used to make amazing games. Remember the Strike series? Remember the Skate games? Remember DJFFNY? Just a few examples. They can keep the crap they churn out now.

        1. Peter Moore is just a guy who likes to screw people and consumers.

          1.He screwed Sega
2.He screwed Xbox (rushing console to launch with RROD)
          3.He screwed Ea

        2. Personally, I think EAs games are more fitted for home console experiences than handhelds, and honestly, it’s cheaper and easier to make a mobile game. Sure it might only be a few bucks per sale, but it costs so much less to make than a 3DS game, they’d probably make the same profit off of the mobile market, with the chance of getting one of those random hit titles. Look at plants vs zombies. That game works well for mobile and was probably really cheap to get on it. I’m pretty sure it launched for PC either first or at the same time, but still, a blowout casual success that probably wouldn’t have done as well on a dedicated device at a retail price. EA makes console games with ridiculous budgets, and that really seems to be the problem. If a game isn’t a big budget console blowout, it’s some quick and cheap stake for mobile. It seems like there’s no such thing as an in between for them or most developers. Nintendo seems to be one of the only companies that knows how to make a good game with a decent budget. Platinum must also budget really well considering how their games sell, but those 2 seem to be the only ones that can spend years making games to be happy with a couple hundred thousand in sales, and where breaking a million is a huge success for them. It’s pretty impressive that Nintendo can do that, and other companies need to learn how to follow suit and budget for quality games that don’t break the bank. I blame this whole ‘realism’ trend. Gotta spend a few million on making sure the dust on the window looks the same as real life, right?

          1. They’re trying for go easy money from idiots because mobile users will blindly waste money for anything they think is flashy for their touch screens and shit.

Doesn’t matter what EA does. They’re the most retarded selfish assclowns of gaming next to Activision and now Ubisoft who is EA 2.0.

      4. 3ds is still gonna be there because quality games bring customers. They make phone games because their going for the fastest buck; their games will be shitty, but consumers will eat em up because they are stupid. It actually takes good games to sell on consoles, because people know better.

        1. Ehh, I give the 3DS 2 more years. It won’t end any sooner than that, but it won’t last much longer, 3 years after this winter at most before the next handheld launches. And by the sounds of it, the next handheld might be tied to the next console, which should also come out in about 3 years. Any sooner than that would probably be too soon, and wouldn’t allow enough time for the Mario and Zelda teams to have something ready for launch of it, and they need one of those at a console’s launch, even if it’s just a remake a la Ocarina 3D. I personally think that’s when they should save the Galaxy successor for, from a business perspective. Makes more sense then on a console with the sales trends the Wii U has, but that’s just a thought

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

The Wii U still has at least 4-5 years of life at least, if not more. These people wanting Nintendo to abandon the Wii U either didn’t see what happened to Sega or want Nintendo to make the same mistake in the hopes it will blow up in their faces & force them to go multiplatform.

            1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

That’s debatable, it all depends on High Command…

Personally I don’t see more than 3 years left in its current state…

            2. Seeing that they want Nintendo to self-destruct so they can make their games exist on other consoles disturbs me very much. Their hypocrisy is only matched to Politicians thinking anything like that makes sense.

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

^^EA needs to be in the position THQ was in where they have to sell off all the franchises they own. I was going to say they should be in Capcom’s position, but Capcom is only selling their shares so they will still be up & running.

      5. This just proves even further that EA doesn’t know how to make good games. Wanting to make games for mobile devices instead of Nintendo’s dedicated consoles? Lets all be thankful that a crap company like EA is thinking this way, and not an actual GOOD company.

        1. To these greedy fuckers, its always about deceiving the bottom line from the most oblivious of all idiot gamers

      6. PS Vita had the potential to be so much more. For anyone that’s played it, you would know that it’s actually a really great handheld. It just needs better games. I was hoping Vita could be like a PS3 on the go, but that’s not the case. It’s not getting used to it’s full potential and instead feels like it was made for indies. Nothing wrong with indies, it’s just that you already get enough of those on your console. That’s too bad.

        1. Actually it is exactly like PS3 with different menu design because all Vita offers is freaking multiports that the PS3 already had months before or same day but with watered down experience compare to the full package on PS3’s end so that alone plus PSTV killed the purpose of even buying a PSVita. Why you think they’re bundling it with PS4 serving as a Wii U Gamepad knockoff?

      7. Mainly to snag microtransactions out of millions of idiots using smartphones because 1. Nintendo fans, thank god, arent that stupid to fall for their transparent greed and 2. This is the biggest one of all: EA pissed off all Nintendo fans or whats left from last year after the whole Wii U Origin rejection BS.

So, like I said before EA, I DONT GIVE A FUCK WHAT YOU DO OR THINK ABOUT NINTENDO! Whatever fans or partnership you thought you had with Nintendo is GONE and its all thanks to you selfish bastards that single handedly destroyed it.

        1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Let’s hope Disney gives Nintendo the rights to make their own Star Wars games if EA is going to continue being assholes to us Nintendo fans.

          1. Oh knowing Disney/Nintendo are great partners, if EA dares trying something to screw them from getting Battlefront 3 whilw under Disney’s contract to bring Star Wars games on Nintendo platform as well, theyre in for some deep shit and they can’t afford that.

      8. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Fucking EA. Just admit it. You like screwing over “minorities” & you just want that easy money from making phone games full of micro-transactions because the casual crowd are idiots that think the money spent on micro-transactions don’t add up in the long run.

        1. Exactly. They know Vita is DOA and Nintendo fans aren’t stupid enough to fall for their BS plus EA already royally pissed the fans away so they’re going for the easy target: Stupid casuals and kids on a freaking cellphone wasting money to advance a level in a game…how fucking messed up is society today?

      9. Finite resources? If you’re an indie team, sure. But if you’re a big corporation who’s too cheap to create jobs for the economy to port games, even if it may lead to a loss that seems non-existant when judging all-platform sales as a whole, it’s well, EA….

      10. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

The Electron Army, why am I not surprised…

We don’t want your pathetic sorry excuses of your so called “quality games” and to those stupid Nintendo fans that accepts these abominations, just stay out of our way…

It’s people like you that is making this gaming universe into garbage by accepting every damn crap these fools put out…

They could have ATLEAST lowered the price on these gimped games but no, the Electrons even charge you more for it…

Let’s take FIFA 13 on the 3DS, it still costs 55 euros, what a complete rip off for a copy and paste rehashed crap that can’t even be called a game…

Electron Army = Dead since they pulled the plug on Spore…

      11. I wouldn’t mind betting that this Peter Moore creature actually thinks that handheld gamers would be distraught on hearing this news.

Far from it, we are rejoicing.

And with no foreseeable future ea releases coming to any current or future Nintendo system…this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

      12. Makes sense. Why develop for a console filled with casual gamers that would only buy 1 game for 3DS then let it collect dust, than to develop for an ever growing platform that casual gamers actively play different apps on the App Store/Google Play Store

                1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

No, that you think that’s the only reason to why these abominations don’t want to make games for it…

And most of the 3DS owners are real gamers, not casuals…

                  1. Yeah, with games like Mario Party: Island Tour, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Mario Tennis Open, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario Golf: World Tour, Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Mario Kart 7, and Super Mario 3D Land, casuals sure wouldn’t be buying the 3DS!

Don’t say something you which you lack evidence for

                    1. ATLUS’s generous support, XSeed’s support, Level-5’s support, Sakura Samurai (Nintendo), Mutant Mudds, Ace Attorney, & all the Nintendo franchises that offer serious challenge while not requiring it (namely the core 2D/3D Mario titles).

                        1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Isn’t it obvious? He’s mentioning games for the 3DS that aren’t casual games.

                      1. It may not be suited for casual players but it has nothing to do with my original comment saying that most of the 3DS owners are casuals

                        1. Ah, you were stating the obvious: a platform’s popularity, in the current industry-climate where gaming has become a mainstream institution, is a result of casuals. Yep. Look @ PS4’s sales, the attach rate of games, & the most popular titles & most of its install-base is casuals, too. It’s not like the beginning to the 6th gen where gaming was still fairly niche, though the signs of expanding were there & Sony really pushed it into the mainstream. Perhaps the Game Boy brand also had a hand in that, namely Tetris & the like.

But in the 7th & current gen, serious gamers are outnumbered by casuals, even w/ in the console/multi-media box arena. But I think the Sony brand nowadays, especially w/ so many FPSes, attracts more casuals than Nintendo, especially considering the addition of Bluray. No doubt the Wii had the most in the 7th gen. Of course, there was still plenty of serious Wii games to be found, enough to spend a small fortune on. But yeah, a console used to sell based on its library, yet now it sells mostly on brand recognition & tech specs (devs hardcore efforts but w/ little to no gameplay). Sure, there were still hardware fights back in the day, but ultimately the exclusives were what counted.

Still, seems like 3DS’s ratio of casuals is prolly smaller compared to PS4. PS4 seems to get more press & has the more of the mainstream, Western titles. Vita, though, definitely has fewer casuals since its price (@ least proprietary memory cards) is higher than 3DS & seems to cater more toward an older demograph, & those who’d want few exclusives & a PS3 on the go. Actually, I think the Vita could use a few casual games to help garner more mass-appeal, thus more sales & exposure, thus more support & a lower price.

                    2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

xD Some of those games you mentioned are far from casual, though. Since when the fuck did RPGs & platformers become casual!? Now you are just reaching.

                      1. That’s why when you play NSMBU and then switch to Mario World there isn’t a change in difficulty at ALL, right?

                        1. Valve Admiral GLaDOS

Does it matter? No it doesn’t, I don’t know what type of drugs your taking, but lay off them. I’ve seen more “casual” shovelware on PC than on a Wii U. Also full of casuals? Don’t try and speak for every person who owns a Wii U. Your Playstation is has more of these “casuals” than I could ever count on a Wii U all due to graphics and horsepower hype, nothing else?

                        2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Don’t forget that Sony was bragging about how some of the Wii owners moved to the Playstation 4, GLaDOS. xD I bet most of them were casuals.

                        3. @Glados he was talking about Mario games not catering to the casuals, right? So are you saying there hasn’t been a dip in difficulty at ALL over the years?

                        4. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Easy doesn’t always equal casual, though. But if you want a challenging Mario game, go play Super Mario 3D World & get to the final level of the game. The final level is a real pain in the ass.

                        5. @tallon But yet the hardcore games still sell on PS4. Meanwhile on Wii U…

                        6. @the newer tallon comment I know, I lost a fuckload of lives on that last one, but it was just disappointing to me how only in the later stages, THEN Nintendo started to crank the difficulty up. Worlds 1-Bowser was a total pushover imo

                        7. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

From what I remember, that’s how it’s always been with platform Mario games. It isn’t til the last 3 worlds that the difficulty makes a leap… if they don’t have warps.

                          1. Just don’t forget the extras in each level, like snagging all the special coins & actually finding/openning shortcuts. To me, 2D Marios offer a “casual” challenge on the surface, but if you wanna take them seriously, then there are still challenges to be had. Either get from point A to point B w/ no to fair challenge, or go deeper & get all the special coins or stars or whatever, & then unlock bonus levels geared specifically toward more serious challenge. Most anybody can jump in & reach/beat the final boss, but those looking for more challenge need to look a bit harder.

                          2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Like with Super Mario World with Star Road & gaining entry into the Special zone.

                  2. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Not sure if true but I’ve heard EA is actually slowly moving away from Sony, not just Nintendo. If this ends up being true… lmao But let’s face it. Xbox could use the full support of EA as they make their games Xbox exclusive.

                    1. A partnership made in heaven.

An evil corporate money grabbing arrogant company that is sucking the soul out of the gaming which produces terrible, terrible games married to an evil corporate money grabbing company which is sucking the soul out of the gaming that produces hardware which nobody wants.

One can hope this would bring them both down.

                          1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Let us continue our good work of getting rid of trolls and other foul creatures…

                      1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Microsoft would be okay if the partnership went south since they have other things that they make way more money on then keeping up with their video game developing projects. EA, on the other hand, would hopefully get badly damaged by this as hopefully Nintendo & Sony would tell EA to shove their games up their ass since they turned their back on them & their consoles.

                        1. Wow, EA shoving their games up their ass is actually a very good idea, at least this way they would be making a better use for their games ;).

                      2. Oh I’m so praying for that day to come. If any company that deserves to burn the hottest and hardest with no guarantee to return, its EA..first.

                      1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

That’s why I said not sure if true. I don’t have a source. I’ve just heard it from someone. The fact EA is abandoning the Vita is making this rumor seem plausible.

              1. That’s not even the best excuse but valid. Vita is DOA since year one and while 3DS is on fire in sales, dickheads at EA knows 1. They pissed off whatever Nintendo/EA they have over Origin nonsense and 2. EA knows Nintendo aren’t that stupid to see their tardiness and greed. Example: FIFA 14 (or FIFA 13.1 update)

        1. EA loves mobile because there’s a lot of suckers out there.

I don’t know about the Vita or the next Sony handheld, but definitely the 3DS and its successor will live on. And EA will die slowly…

          1. Pretty much. What they meant to say is that if they released micro-transaction riddled bullshit on the 3DS, no one would pick their games over games like Fire Emblem, Pokémon and Bravely Default.

            1. Because we Nintendo fans are way smarter than that to fall for it and buying late gimped trash from other 3rd parties as well. 3rd parties are spamming crap and looking for suckers to leech quick bucks. Nintendo is not on their list and I’m glad. They all should stay the fuck away from our consoles, far away.

          1. We could have all of those sweet games by now if it wasn’t for their evil, selfish ego raging high over Origin being denied as a default Wii U function. WTF even likes Origin anyway besides idiots with brain cancer they grew themselves?

            1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

If EA had released the Mass Effect trilogy & Dead Space as a trilogy to the Wii U, I would have bought them in a heartbeat just like I did with Need for Speed Most Wanted U since I loved the original game back on the Playstation 2.

              1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

But nooo! EA had to let their foolish pride get in the way of good business decisions!

        2. Fuck EA who cares about them! I don’t care for tablet gaming anymore is so boring.. consoles PC are better! And handales are better! Stupid EA makes dumb move I hate them so much i m not buying battle field 4 anymore

          1. Oh let them be selfish and stupid somewhere else, as far away from our glorious portables (except Vita. Its deadweight) as possible so we won’t see nor tolerate their BS.

        3. well EA is never getting my money for mobile gaming then. I own a 3DS and Vita for mobile gaming. I will never play games on my tablet or phone. a touchscreen sucks as a gaming interface

        4. Thing is, nearly all of their console games, be it portable or home, gets minor improvements every year and then they dish it out for the standard price. Not to mention they overdo it with the microtransactions in their smartphone games but some people seem to like that anyway

        5. “Do you think the Vita and 3DS are going to be around in some shape or fashion by then on a scale level?”

Do you think Smartphones and Tablets will last forever? Just like Laptops computers, Tablets and smartphones are going to be replaced by something far more modern in the future.

        6. Bitch and whine more, tards. Smart devices = profit. Regardless of how you feel about EA, it’s a better business decision to not focus on games in an area that isn’t making them money.

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

You’re right. But only because most Nintendo fans are sick of EA’s bullshit & actually want them to take a hike. After all, the company has been full of shit for awhile now.

        7. Chozodian Emissary

It’s easier to poop out a crappy smart phone game and make quick cash than actually put effort into a game for the handheld market. They know they’ve screwed up so much in the past that people won’t even bother buying their games on the handhelds anymore so now they’re focusing their shovel ware onto the unsuspecting casual smart phone customer.

        8. if you where take every person that owns a 2ds and a 3ds/xl and the PS vita you have the average population of a first world nation are they mad. but besides that EA for years has just treated it consumers like dirt.

        9. Humm money. Or maybe money. Or money could be the answer. EA does not give a shot about the gaming industry that’s why.

        10. Why isn’t EA dead yet? they just need to stop, they’ve officially ruined the sims and that was the last franchise I cared about from them

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

Don’t forget some of the developers that they bought & eventually buried to cut down on the competition from smaller developers.

        11. Don’t get me wrong, I honestly don’t care whether or not EA develops for handhelds, because I never found their games fun.

I just love the stupidity, though, that they think that 3DS and Vita are going to be irrelevant compared to smartphones. All three are likely going to coexist for a long time.

        12. The reason why, is because EA does not care about the games whatsoever. How they think they’ll make the most money is the route they’ll take. EA is just a greedy, horrid, heartless crap stain in the gaming universe.

        13. “Do you think the Vita and 3DS are going to be around in some shape or fashion by then on a scale level?”” … why yes… yes i do, in some shape or fashion. there will always be dedicated handheld gaming devices, there will however seldom be a decent mobile game that actually makes me want to play it for anything more than a 20 minute stint. its because they make quick easy money from microtransactions from mooks that will pay for them rather than risking producing titles for handhelds. The EA business philosophy really makes me sad for the future of the gaming industry, favouring quick money for innovation

        14. These comments are fucking nuts! First, you people bash Nintendo for not embracing mobile devices. Now, your bashing EA for doing the same damn thing you want Nintendo to do? Make up your minds!

Dedicated handhelds are dying out. Look at the sales of the 3DS you’ll say… Well, I say look at the sheer number of sales of smart devices!

Now we have Android TV which will push Android gaming into the living room. These smart devices have graphics which are nearing or even outpacing console-level graphics. (Just look at Apple’s “Metal”.)

If I were Nintendo, I would create a $99 – $199 Android gaming device with a modified version of Android. Not only that, I would create a Virtual Console service for iOS and Android with in app advertisements for the “dedicated” console. Mario Bros on iPhone? Millions upon millions of kids will be re-introduced to Mario, not to mention exposing them to the dedicated offerings.

Smart devices: Classic games, advertising platform, and the ability manage your console purchases.

Console: Console level games with the usual feature rich experiences we come to know from Nintendo.

            1. The usual reply to common sense. Fanboys can’t stand any amount of common sense.

According to you, I’m wrong for creating a plan that would make Nintendo billions. I’m wrong for creating a plan that would place Nintendo back on the map. I’m wrong for wanting Nintendo to succeed in the most realistic way possible.

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

You have a lot of us confused with those idiots that want Nintendo to go mobile. Mobile is mostly casual gamers. EA can have the mobile market because it suits their cheap ways & let’s them make quick cash grab games while charging microtransactions. With any luck, it’ll do to them what it did to Capcom.

            1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

But hopefully much, much, much worse. EA has been trash for the past 3-5 years now.

        15. These comments are crazy! “EA hates Nintendo!”

Um, did you even READ the fucking article? EA has finite man-hours, meaning that for each platform added, more quality gets killed.

If EA were to write games for Nintendo platforms, including EA’s current platforms, because of the finite resources (programmers, artists, etc), the quality would be crap. Then you “fans” would be screaming “these games suck, go to hell EA!”

          1. Tallon Ridley XIII: Kalas

They are a pretty big company. They can afford more employees. They are just making excuses, as usual.

        16. Ok so because you think that smartphones are the systems that people will be consuming games on TWO/THREE YEARS FROM NOW, you don’t want to make money on 3ds/vita right now. Sure. Seems legit. I mean sure it’d take a bit of time to make games for those systems (though they could’ve been busy already since they’ve been out for a while), but I just think you guys don’t have any good ideas for the hardware. Phone games are cheap/easier/quicker to make I assume. Not that I really care though. It just feels like an excuse to me. Not that that matters because I’m just an individual, but oh well.
