Check Out Zero Suit Samus’s Alternative Outfits For Super Smash Bros

samus_3ds_smash_brosSuper Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has posted two new Wii U and 3DS screenshots showing off alternative outfits for Zero Suit Samus. In his daily Miiverse post, the brawler’s director mentioned Samus’s top and shorts combo from the Game Boy Advance’s Metroid: Zero Mission was drawn by a female designer – alleviating previous fan concerns that Samus was becoming overtly sexualised.

Aside from her well-designed outfits, sharp-eyed Smash Bros fans will recognise the arrival of a returning stage in the 3DS screenshot above. The original Metroid stage seen in previous Smash entries, Brinstar, will make an re-appearance in the 3DS version of the game. Here’s what Sakurai said for both screenshots on Miiverse:

“Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this… That’s what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time. From the ending of Metroid: Zero Mission, here’s Samus in shorts!

“Here’s a look at the 3DS version. You can use the same outfit variations in both the 3DS and Wii U versions.”

      1. Well I own a gaming PC and multiple consoles and have played games with way more “sexual content” than Zero Suit Samus wearing shorts from an old GameBoy Advance game, and I haven’t quite seen the odd ass range of responses that I saw on Miiverse this morning. And not just the stereotypical “BOOBIES ZOMG!1!!!” type of comments I meant stuff like this quote(in which i’ll leave his typo in): “This might be to much for m dad letting me get the game!” to your normal internet dirty like: “*sees picture* I just need 10 minutes alone for… things, yes things*”.

And then a lot of people started reprimanding Sakurai for including this, as if he ruined the game (one person said they wouldn’t buy it because of his “fanservice”) and that part bothered me, because shit like that reinforces the stupid stereotype of Nintendo fans being babies/not ready for mature content in games.

PS I know Xbox LIVE, Steam and PSN have horribly immature fans(I played a lot of Xbox, believe me I know) but that’s everywhere. I just never expected that much outlash over Samus in shorts… dumbass.

      1. That’s it… feel the force flowing within you…give yourself to the darkside… We give free cookies for our first time members.

          1. I sense you missed the meme

Anyway, we need to play MK8 with those new Mercedes Benz DLC cars, I want to see which one is the best

              1. The DLC won’t be out until the 27th, but sure, I’ll play a game or 2, haven’t played MK8 in a while, hope my skills haven’t slipped

          2. The other 33% of you is making you weak…The cookies are for your Lord to consume…they are non (non) toxic.

        1. I liked the military Samus & the outfit she wore after MB is killed but before returning to the Bottle Ship. I prefer Samus with her hair down.

  1. I’ve seen 15yo girls on the street wearing less clothes than Samus here. And the feminist dykes say then can do that because they’re free women.

  2. Super Smash Bros is doomed to fail, they added in Miis with custom move sets and now you can’t figure out the moves.

    1. Okay, enough “CoD this CoD that” obinna, if you want to not be hurt, I suggest you stop with all the Xbox fanboying around

                      1. Yes. Notice his username being “Blood Reborn” even though Sickr banned NIMB.

Plus he’s the only one talking to NC about Sasori and tracking people. Seems much more than a coincidence if you ask me.

            1. If anything happens to him I will make sure the cops track down your IP addresses first ;). You’ve already made violent threats in previous comments which is pretty fucking stupid of you.

    2. I’m loving how they adapted the Metroid Fusion “sports outfit” to ZSS, and I was hoping for a new stage instead of good ol’ Brinstar. Oh, well, better than nothing.

    3. Just because a female designed it that means it’s not over sexualized? What kinda logic is that? Over sexualized is over sexualized.

      1. Personally, I don’t think she’s overly sexualised at all in her outfit. She’s wearing a gym “sports bra”, which many women would wear to train in – female athletes wear these when competing in sports championships, and they aren’t sexualised in any form. If she was wearing something that was not supporting her, ie. flimsy laced material, then it would be a case of her becoming sexualised to draw the male (or female) eye. My two cents, here. :)

        1. ^This so much so. Plus it’s a good throwback to her original zero suit. The more homages to Metroid franchise lore the better in my opinion.

    4. You’re welcome people. Btw I know she is just a video game character but if I were straight….. *she still looks sexy =p* Hugs!

    5. ERMAHGERD SAMUS IS WEARING SKIMPY-ASS CLOTHING ZOMG!!!!1!!!11

I have seen worse on the beach than this. The internet needs to calm the FUCK down.
(The first part of my post was simply alleviating anger. Ignore that.)

    6. Not only that, but Samus has ALWAYS been sexualized. Play and beat the original Metroid in under 2 hours I think it was. She is wearing a bikini.

    7. “was drawn by a female designer– alleviating previous fan concerns that Samus was becoming overtly sexualised.”

…that is the single dumbest thing I have read on the internet this month. That’s like saying Twilight isn’t promoting emotional dependence and abuse in relationships because it was written by a woman.

    9. Honestly I think her design looks cool. Those that are hating can piss off. This is a good homage to her early zero suit. Yeah I’m a nostalgia whore. So what?

    10. I like the costumes. Shows off Samus’ skin more which looks really cool. I don’t know why anyone would be up in arms with this choice. Smash Bros has been rated T since Melee.

    11. Thank you Sakurai for giving Metroid fans Fusion and Zero Mission Samus, she looks amazing you could literally see her toned muscles in her arms and legs you could also see her toned abs, they may not be six packs but it looks like she works out a lot. Also f*** all you feminists who hate these costumes on other video game forums, Samus has been wearing bikinis since the first game in 1986.

        1. True, Tumblr and reddit they’re pretty much the only ones being truly sexist; a woman can wear what ever she wants plus this isn’t even revealing, women who run or do mma wear these kinds of sports clothes. The only thing I don’t like are the heels other than that she is perfect.

    12. Well, I’m not surprised that Samus decides to wear shorts on occasion. I mean, they ARE comfy and easy to wear!
