Nintendo America Announces NES-Styled 3DS XL Edition, Launches October 10

nes_3ds_xlNintendo together with GameStop have announced a new NES-Styled 3DS XL Edition today. The special edition will be sold exclusively at GameStop and will launch across North American stores on October 10. The hardware is modeled after Nintendo’s iconic NES controller and the box looks like an NES system – it will retail at a suggested price of $199.99.

The NES 3DS XL Edition marks the second team-up with GameStop retail stores, as earlier today a new Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth 3DS XL Edition was revealed at this year’s GameStop Expo, which will launch alongside the game on November 25.

      1. Right? This seems like such a bad tease, especially if the new system comes out at 180, then your paying 20$ more for old technology, I think it would have made more sense on the new system any ways, it could have sold more units to have the limited edition design at the start, I suppose they could also have a Snes print of the new 3DS. (and a GameCube edition of the Wii U)

          1. Actually they sold the DSi at a competitive price point to the DS, and DS light. And the Japanese price MSRP is already competitive with the current 3DS models. If it dues cost more, it well be by a few dollars, this is a simple stop gap device, it is not a whole new system, and other then a new browser, it well run the same OS.

  1. Was this necessary with New 3DS coming next year? I have to say I actually don’t like it. The Gameboy Advance SP was great, it looked more like the console and then the buttons looked more like a NES controller. This just looks slapped on and fan-made really.

  2. Looks okay, but what about the inside of it?

Not to mention knowing there’s the New 3DS on the way next year kinda makes buying a 3DS now seem like a bad idea

    Check it out :)

  4. Its a bit unfair with all these Gamestop deals isn’t it. I know i can’t afford a 3DS myself but i know a few Non-American people that would wan’t one of those. In fact i swear i’ve seen a few people actually ask for a NES themed 3DS to be made.

  5. “Here, old fans, buy this console blindly and then buy the New 3DS a few month later. Fu… Uh, thank you for your support during all those years.”

  6. Consider me the new owner of this NES edition 3DS XL. I can’t resist this. I hope it’s not an extremely limited edition, where I’m going to miss out if I don’t pre-order.

  7. People who buy any of these are retarded. The new 3DS will make them obsolete. “muh colors, muh limited edition” yes, buy what you already own for the third time.

  9. I just pre-ordered this at Gamestop. Never dreamed I’d have to pay $50.00 to pre-order, but it’s worth it to me. This will be my third 3DS. Next is the New 3DS. I’m not rich, I’m just stupid. LOL! This NES edition 3DS XL will be very valuable some day. Especially since it’s a Gamestop exclusive. I wanted to hurry and pre-order before all of the eBay resellers bought them all out.

    1. “I’m not rich, I’m just stupid. LOL!”

Well at least you own it, I’ll give you that.

Never dreamed? That is how it goes with systems, surprised you didn’t know that being a collector or are you just getting into collecting? At least for me its been that way for many years at Gamestop, it cost $50 to pre-order consoles or handhelds.

      1. Well, I started “hardcore” collecting in 2006. But normally I buy used games etc. because they’re cheaper. I can get SOOOO much more vintage games for the price of just one modern game. I pre-ordered the original 3DS at Gamestop back when it first came out, but it was so long ago that I had no memory of what I paid for the pre-order. I’m not normally a pre-order person unless there’s some sort of bonus involved. But I knew this NES edition 3DS XL wouldn’t be available for very long. And I didn’t want to miss out on it. I always regretted not buying the NES edition Game Boy Advance SP.

        1. Oh, I understand. I had just assumed you per-ordered often being a collector is all.

I mean I won’t lie, I wish I could do the same, but I can’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on something unless I actually use it, but it would be really awesome to have every limited edition 3DS or 3DS XL.

Would be really cool to have them aligned them all into a frame and put them on your wall. Be nice a piece of artwork right there, an expensive piece at that. lol.

My problem is I would just sell them all anyway to make a huge profit.

          1. Whoops meant to delete that bit but posted it anyway… Just ignore the repeat “them.”

Re-worded it but failed anyway.. Sigh..

      1. Er… What I meant to say was, congratulations! I hope you enjoy the new system! Even though you probably won’t even use it that much because you’re just going to buy the new 3DS and this will be obsolete but… hey it’s your money! Lol.

        1. Actually, I probably won’t even open it (since I already have the Pikachu 3DS XL). Sometimes being a collector feels like a curse. I buy things I know I’ll never open, just for the sake of owning it (and knowing it might be worth money some day). I have hundreds of vintage games (and some modern games) I’ve never even tried to play yet (or see if they even work). But that’s due to not having enough time. It’s possible that my collecting will stop one day. But I’m going to continue enjoying it while I can.

            1. No. I wanted that one as well, but just didn’t feel that it looked quite….I don’t know? I wished it had some sort of cool pictures on it, rather than just a triforce design. I WAS going to buy the blue Smash Bros. edition that’s coming soon, until I saw this NES one. I was forced to choose. I hate making decisions like that.

  10. With the New 3DS the interchangeable paceplates will make collecter editions obsolete. There is no longer a reason to make special versions. Maybe limited edition faceplates? I was praying for a Smash bros 3DS to upgrade my regular one. They finally announced it and a week later crushed my dreams when they announced a New 3DS. Jeesh

    1. Ridley 2 Big 4 Smash? More Like 2 Big 4 U Wiiklings 2 Control! Leave Him 2 The Masters!

Holy shit! If the NES 3DS was designed exactly like yours, I’d be up for buying this new 3DS just for collecting purposes! But as it stands, screw the official NES 3DS from Nintendo!
