Looks Like You May Be Able To Use Nintendo 3DS As A Controller In Smash Bros Wii U

It has come to light that you should be able you use your Nintendo 3DS as a controller for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. Twitter user Kyle McLain discovered this while playing the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo 3DS. We shall have to wait and see what Nintendo has to say on the matter, but it’s certainly an interesting move from the Kyoto based company.

Thanks, Retrogaminglord

      1. How come I have NEVER been one of the lucky Club Nintendo members to receive a limited download code to play a demo?

Nintendo has done a bunch, but I have yet to receive a single one.

        1. U HAVE TO HAVE BENN A PLATINUM MEMBER FROM Last years club membership… i was gold… u get 4 if u are a platinum member so you can share or even sell em for money XD

            1. I think you have to check yr eMail associated with the account, otherwise, I wouldn’t know cuz i didn’t get the codes.
(But some generous fellow (yesterday) gave me a code and I have the DEMO NOW!! :D)

        2. I’ll just post a copy of my email so people know the requirements, I asked on reddit and people said they are still getting emails this late, they also said that they still plan to put out emails for a couple more hours, so there is still a chance.

Anyway, these are the requirements, if you have these covered, you might still get one.

“We’re sending this demo to Club Nintendo members like you who achieved Platinum Status between 7/1/2013 and 6/30/2014, registered any Nintendo 3DS product, and chose to receive information from Nintendo at Club Nintendo. Hurry—all codes for this special demo must be redeemed by Sept. 19. Enjoy!”

      1. How do you know it’s the best decision in your life IF THE iPhone 6 IS ONLY ON PRE-ORDER!!! You son of… Have you no childhood!? Robin Williams is loved by hundreds of millions, your just a …. who hates on him because of his interests!

    1. If the DS had the ability to link with the Wii, then Nintendo should innovate that feature further with the 3DS and Wii U. Even though the 3DS version of Smash Bros. seems pretty lackluster so far, connection with Wii U will increase the awesomeness of the game.

Pokemon Battle revolution for the Wii used the DS as a controller.

            1. I’m talking about how it forces you to use it in some games. And how you can’t access some places on your Wii U without it. Also, I already got my Gsmepad charger not too long ago so don’t worry. You ain’t gonna hear my bitching anymore. Lol.

              1. What I noticed about my Gamepad from my MK8 bundle is that the battery actually lasts longer so the newer shipments have the improved Gamepad battery.

But onto the the Gamepad, yes, I get it about the restriction thing which will be resolved if you voice yourself. They removed it from Shovel Knight and so can Pikmin 3.

    1. 3DS本体をWii Uに接続してカスタマイズキャラをやりとりしたりコントローとして使うことができます。
“You can transfer your customized characters to the Wii U from the 3DS as well as use your 3DS as a controller.”

    2. I seem to recall, in the early planning discussion of Smash Bros 4, Sakurai indicated that this would be a possibility, hearkening back to the Gamecube era, where the GBA could be used as a controller with certain games.

      1. That would certainly be interesting. I only ever used that gameboy advance connect cord for Animal Crossing and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Nowadays everything is wireless, and the lack of cords and buyable peripheral would definitely promote cross system play. This certainly has more potential than the gba-GameCube connect.

    3. this good incase the gamepad is not functioning correctly or has broken buttons, but this could defeat the purpose of the gamepad compeletely

    4. Only makes that rumor about the Wii U getting exclusive characters that can come to the 3DS version more plausible. Seeing as we now have actual proof that the 3DS will connect to the Wii U version.

    5. YES!!!! Thanks nintendo for nodding your head at me when i say the gamepad is a failure and was pointless. HEY NINTENDO THE GAMEPAD IS A FUCKING MISTAKE, IT’S USLESS, IT FORCES AND IS ANNOYING!!!

“Your right, it is……. how about we just have the 3ds function like the gamepad? HA WE TOTALLY DIDN’T NEED THAT GAMEPAD!!!! BUT WE GOT YO MONEY!!!! Maybe we should have made a powerful console like ps4 with all the features like standard consoles do……. picture all the 3rd party games, with good online and all those nice features with nintendo games…… HAHAHAH WOW THAT GAMEPAD WAS A WASTE!!!!”

        1. Well it does seem unconvenient and annoying (the gamepad for every game) but who the fuck would want to use that 3ds then….

    6. I’ll be getting a GC adapter for Wii U, but the controls for Smash 3DS are actually very comfortable, so this could be good.

    7. Is that good? I watched a review not too long ago which was saying the 3DS isn’t really good controller for Super Smash Bros when they had hand on experience playing the demo at an event.

    8. I just played the demo and think the game is amazing. Can’t wait for this game to come out. I only for a couple codes left. Don’t know if I’m gonna them away or to a friend yet.

    9. Aw no online in the demo, but it is still very fun.

I’m actually really impressed. It even looks really good on the 3DS and the smash attacks and environments look amazing in 3D. It plays buttery smooth also, I was a bit skeptical about how it would be on the 3DS but it works just as good as the rest.

If the 3DS version is this much fun, I can’t wait to get the Wii U version, it is going to be epic. I’m gonna play the shit out of both of them.

I really suck ass with Mega Man though… lol

      1. Lol same here. I couldn’t get the hang of him for some reason. Villager worked great for me though. I’ll definitely be using him!

        1. You guys are so lucky. You wouldn’t happen to have any extra codes would you? They singled me out as an Xbox Commander and took me off their list. Little do they know is that I am also a Nintendo Fan at heart.

            1. Don’t be sorry. Haha. Thanks for your time. Nintendo should be sorry because I spent so much money on their shit and this is how they repay. I will for sure not be a platinum member ever again. Lol.

                      1. Hm… Tell you what. I suppose since you really want this, I guess I can give you a code. But it has to be somewhere private. Do you have a Wii U or 3DS with a Miiverse account??

        2. Villager is surprisingly fun to play as well, which I honestly didn’t expect but it plays well and the attacks are great, I love plowing through people riding a fire hydrant or catching them in the bug net.

          1. At the character select screen, I tried to click on the non lit up characters hoping they would work. Lol I really want the full game. XD

      2. Ridley 2 Big 4 Smash? More Like 2 Big 4 U Wiiklings 2 Control! Leave Him 2 The Masters!

It was the opposite for me. I had fun with Mega Man once I got use to his regular moves. It was the Villager that I got beat as. I even lost the Smash Ball to Pikachu as the Villager. I wish the demo for us Platinum members allowed us to play other things of the game besides just multiplayer. Maybe even allow us to unlock one character. Like how some of the demos for other games allowed us to carry over the save data into the actual game. Like the Sonic: Lost World demo for Wii U.

    10. Too bad Club Nintendo is under maintenance. What has Nintendo done? People at this point will do anything to get their hands on one of these codes.

    11. Codes finished and i don’t think I will search for any other NA codes, I did my best and what they said to me is f*** you, that’s so bad :(
And then people now wants money for the codes, i won’t pay again for codes

    12. Ridley 2 Big 4 Smash? More Like 2 Big 4 U Wiiklings 2 Control! Leave Him 2 The Masters!

If Link wasn’t in this demo, I wouldn’t be having nearly as much fun with it. Does anyone feel this way about Mario, Pikachu, Mega Man, Villager, or Link?

      1. Villager gave me the most enjoyment. I’ve learned how to play with him. I still haven’t exactly gotten the hang of Mega Man yet. Mario, Link, and Pikachu are pretty much the same from Brawl though. Although Pikachu’s Final Smash is MUCH easier to control.

        1. Ridley 2 Big 4 Smash? More Like 2 Big 4 U Wiiklings 2 Control! Leave Him 2 The Masters!

I’m actually glad Link hasn’t changed much. I do love how the Hylian Shield’s color actually changes when you change the color of Link’s tunic. Too bad this demo didn’t have at least one alternate costume for each of the characters integrated into it.
