Super Mario Spikers Was A Cancelled Volleyball/Wrestling Hybrid For Wii

Unseen64 have uncovered the existence of Super Mario Spikers which was under development for a very short period of time by the acclaimed Next Level Games. The site says it was a cancelled volleyball/wrestling hybrid game that was in the conceptualisation phase, but never made it past that.

‘It was a wrestling/volleyball hybrid with a game show slant. It was never released and was financed as more of a reward to Next Level for doing such a great job on MSC’

      1. I agree. Those N64 wrestling games was awesome! Sure beats the complicating play control of today’s wrestling games.

  1. Please Nintendo, if you read this, bring this game to Wii U. Wii U is more powerful than Wii. No excuse for you not to take advantage the power of Wii U.

    1. agreed. I always wondered why they’ve never made a mario vollyball game. looks like they almost did, shame too it would have been great!

      1. There was a great Volleyball mini game in Mario Party 4. It was actually a special mini game that took a while to unlock. Hockey in 5 and Basketball in 6 were the same.
All almost good enough for a solo game.

  2. Wrestling mixed with Volleyball sounds a bit too random to be any good.

This feels like it could of been a case of simply using popular characters to get more people to buy your game although you can never find out unless its actually made.

                    1. Yep. *sips Kool-Aid* xD And I already got the joke. I just avoided it because I’m smart like that. :p

    1. might have gotten turn down, because peach and dasiy my guess( Peach almost got in punch out, but nintendo said no, do to violence against women)

    2. I think maybe they cancelled it because of Mario Sports Mix. Which had volleyball included in it and three other sports but no boxing which would’ve been cool.

    3. If this were released on Wii U, can you imagine how fast the Miiverse boards would be shut down due to an influx of pictures of, I don’t know, Peach mud-wrestling Daisy, or something?

    4. Ridley 2 Big 4 Smash? More Like 2 Big 4 U Wiiklings 2 Control! Leave Him 2 The Masters!

I’d rather have a true wrestling game using the same premise as Super Smash Bros: a plethora of Nintendo mascots wrestling each other. Characters like Pikachu, Kirby, Jigglypuff might be out of the question as playable, though, since they don’t exactly have the bodies for wrestling.

      1. We already have Smash Bros. Personally, I’d rather this be the Mario sports game that this could have been or a new IP.

    5. One way or another, I do hope NLG has something new in the works. I generally enjoy their games (except for Luigi’s Mansion 2).
