Bandai Namco Has Changed Their Name Once Again

In some surprising turn of events Bandai Namco Games have changed their name once again. Not content with being called Bandai Namco Games they’ve decided to change it to Bandai Namco Entertainment. The new name will take effect on April 2015, so we’d better remember that it has changed.

“The BANDAI NAMCO Group operates the game business in Japan and overseas. With the advance of technology and diversification of user preferences, the Group has expanded into new products and service domains that extend beyond its previous game business domain.

“With the start of its next Mid-term Plan in April 2015, the Company will change the names of its subsidiaries to widen the definition of their business field to entertainment without limiting them to the present field of games, thus aiming for further growth through new development of service and content businesses that utilize networks.”

  1. if the aim is to widen their business and not focus only on video game. The move make sense and is very welcome.Nevertheless re-branding cost a lot of money and changing name not even after a year is very bad planning or demonstrate a hasty business decision.

  2. Nintendo hasn’t changed names, but they also seem to be broadening their scope of entertainment, with amiibos, possible movies, even pikmin shorts, and possibly many more forms of entertainment beyond video games to come. Lucky for them, their name is already so encompassing that they don’t need to change it anyway.

  3. The constant name changes are silly but whatever. It’s not my money getting wasted by them changing their name barely a year after their previous name change. Anyway, if Bandai Namco is in charge of whether there is another Baten Kaitos, they need to hurry up & make another one already! I miss Kalas & Xelha! D: Hell! I’ll take HD remasters of the first two for the Wii U!
