Activision together with Nickelodeon has announced today that SpongeBob SquarePants is due to embark on a new adventure on select consoles and handhelds. Following the events from the SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, which is scheduled to release on March 27, the new game will see SpongeBob and his friends take on alternate worlds in Bikini Bottom, varying from prehistoric areas, to war zones, and a scrumptious candy covered land.
Tasked with the challenge of putting SpongeBob’s broken psyche back together, players will have to navigate each world to unlock hidden abilities and save the underwater world from destruction. Due for release in March 2015, the action-platform title will feature an interesting mix of puzzles and combat with characters such as Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, Plankton and SpongeBob all playable. SpongeBob HeroPants will be available on the Nintendo 3DS, as well as the PS Vita and Xbox 360.

No Wii U version is a blessing
I’m torn… the whole premise looks stupid, but I think the artstyle in this trailer would lend gorgeously for future Spongebob Video Games. And especially since the show is done by now… it’d be a decent way to continue wringing money out of him. Might get a few gems here and there if they do that… too bad I doubt they will.
