Doug Bowser: Nintendo doesn’t “feel the need” to bring games to other platforms

GamesBeat has gathered some influential people from the video games industry for a special talk on the state of the industry. The individuals heading the talk were Doug Bowser, former president of Nintendo of America; Peter Moore, former leader at Xbox, Sega and Electronic Arts; and Shawn Layden, former chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios. During the informative talk Doug Bowser reiterated that unlike its competitors Nintendo really doesn’t feel the need at present to bring any of its IPs to other platforms. Here’s what he said:

“But for Nintendo, I think the conversation has always been a bit different. With the Switch, and even before, our software dev teams were sitting with the hardware dev teams. As a result of that, they were able to truly optimize the build to perform as best as possible on the platform at the lowest costs. You look at some of the dev costs at Nintendo compared to some of the costs we’ve talked about here today. There’s a huge gap, just a huge gap. For them, it’s always worked. They want to create, if you will, a Nintendo universe where you can come in and play the content and be a part of that. They don’t feel the need, at this point in time, to take it beyond the platform.”
