Gamestop Is Limiting The New Nintendo 3DS XL Special Editions To 2 Per Household

It seems as though GameStop is aware of scalpers and their thirst for money as the retail chain is currently limiting New Nintendo 3DS Majora’s Mask systems and the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate systems to two per household. Reddit user alkaiser1337 is reporting that the company is cancelling orders that consists of three or more units, so if you ordered more than two units from GameStop keep an eye on your emails. Hopefully this should free up some stock and they will be made available on the website in the near future.

Thanks, Portal Dark

  1. At last! This is a good call and a effective way to stop people from selling them at such high prices online. Hopefully they start to do that with the Amiibos as well.

  2. If only I could see the looks on the faces of the shitheads who already sold their pre-orders via eBay that they’re not gonna have. This is delicious.

    1. Incoming wave of “auction has been cancelled” notices! Although ebay has rules when it pertains to cancelling an item listing early. If there’s 12 hours or more left and there are bids, you still have to pay a fee to ebay. If there are less than 12 hours left and there are bids, you have to sell it to the highest bidder. LOL.

    1. “one of these systems” what are the chances they all want the same one tbh? What if they’re smarter and want a different one? I’m extremely positive these two won’t be the only limited editions that Nintendo will ever release.

Hell I’m hoping for a new Fire Emblem 3DS to go along with the new game when it comes out.

      1. Yes. Thats what I’m waiting for. I don’t really like the look of the MH4U 3ds, and the Majoras Mask 3ds should be purple and green. Or purple and black. Not gold. I don’t associate the color gold with Majoras mask.

        Here’s hoping for a Fire Emblem 3ds.

      1. What if….it actually IS Reggie? And he knows that he can get away with his comments because no one would actually believe it to be him?

        BUT I DO.

        I BELIEVE.

    1. Actually Nintendo had nothing to do with this. Nintendo promotes scalpers in most cases. In this matter, Gamestop made Nintendo look pretty bad.

  4. sasori obinna: the puppet master

who the heck even cares about special editions of 3ds. i wounder how many times one can spend $199.99 plus tax for every announced 3ds.

  5. I’m guessing Nintendo is just giving out low stock as usual, I bet if Gamestop had more, they would not be doing this. Nintendo is known for limiting stock to drive up demand and this seems no different. Amiibos are a perfect example of this.

I could be wrong, but I’d bet I’m right.

    1. I bet they just don’t want the backlash, and seeing as scalpers are already taking advantage of the situation. It would be smart to avoid anymore negative attention by doing this and ensuring legitimate buyers get a chance to get one.

      1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Our world gets filled with different species every day it seems…

Trolls, Lizards, Commanders, Scalpers, Collectors, Xbots, Sonyans, Nintendites, PC Master Race, Ouyans, Electrons, Ubisians etc etc…

    2. I truly believe Nintendo welcomes the scalpers. Let’s face it, Nintendo is a business, and having their products on Ebay marked up 500% is not necessarily bad for business.

Nintendo has had an ongoing problem with scalpers for years and has never denounced or tried to stop such behavior. It’s good to see Gamestop step up, for whatever reason.

      1. Having scalpers buy out all your stock is a good thing I guess, from a business standpoint it could be perceived that way. Although if I were in their position, I’d rather carry a shred of dignity about it all.

I also do not think it helps at all. Say scalpers do buy everything you have, the only outlet to buy anything is from a scalper. Well it isn’t Nintendo making the extra money, it’s the scalper and because of this it would definitely hurt Nintendo’s sales in the long run if scalpers were the only people selling their products for them at over inflated prices. In turn people would buy it less because of this.

Of course that isn’t that case, but you get my point.

Short term yes, but I never understood why any business would care about short term profit, generally it leads to a failed company. Again not saying that is the case with Nintendo, just if scalping were to that extreme it would be more detrimental to the company later on in my eyes.

        1. Agreed and you’re right, Nintendo really doesn’t care at all as long as they make sales, who cares to who it is?

But it backfires because they’re not going to aim at their loyal audience anymore, just scalpers. Eventually people will grow tired of this and outright refuse to give Nintendo support.

Yes the scalpers have always been out there, always been lurking but why is there a stronger awareness right now? Because of websites like THIS ONE who provides the wrong kind of information. “A legless Peach sells for $$$$” “A Marth with 2 swords selling for $$$” “Discontinued amiibos!” “Discontinued GBC adapters!”

I’m sorry Sickr I know you always meant well by bringing everyone news remotely related about Nintendo but those kinds of articles have to stop. Its because of these articles that prompts lurking scalpers to keep themselves updated with what’s the next target giving them an unfair advantage over everyone who REALLY want something because of being a simple fan of it.

Let fans continue to voice out their anger at every retailer, if Nintendo doesn’t want to deal with the issue, fine. Gamestop, the store I LEAST likely thought they would care enough about stock control actually made the first step with this move. Now all we need to see if all other retailers can follow their example and help fans out in getting their hands on something they really wanted.

  6. Awesome! Gamestop did the right thing. Scalpers are ASSHOLES!
I really wish I can get the Majora’s Mask New 3DS XL. But I can’t afford it right now. But……I’m going to be VERY tempted if it becomes available for pre-order again.

  7. Good! Hopefully Amazon follows Gamestop’s lead.

I only wish I could see the look on the scalpers’ faces when they see their orders have been canceled.

  8. In Australia both limited edition 3dsXL consoles are strictly one per person. The majoras mask one sold out first day still but we have the monster hunter in stock (They are both are exclusive to eb games).

  9. nintendo should in the future offer there bundle to there loyal club nintendo members first before releasing them to the public

  10. I think all limited items should be limited to two. Scalping isn’t anything new, so I don’t know why they didn’t learn their lesson long ago with limited items.

    1. Because their is no lesson to learn, as far as they are concerned. They sell their product, scalped or not. They don’t care who buys them. I disagree with it, but Nintendo has never took measures to stop scalping, when it appears it could be an easy fix.

  11. Man, the Zelda edition is sold out everywhere. Nintendo seriously needs to get these back in stock. I really want it. I’ve never played Majora’s Mask before and I think this would go perfectly alongside it. I’m so glad by this news. Scalpers always trying to ruin everything! Hopefully they will have enough available now. Already disappointed we aren’t getting the standard version. And I’m gonna be super disappointed if I have to end up getting a plain old black or red. :(

    1. Sigh, wish I liked it. I’m sticking with black… Kills to trade in my ALBW 3DS for freaking black again. I love it so :( I thought about the MH4U bundle, and cancelling my collectors edition but I ended up not liking that one too much either.

Though I will be getting that pin with Code Name: S.T.E.A.M..

  12. I can’t figure out why I’m not already seeing more available for pre-orders, if they really cancelled all pre-orders that went over 2 per customer?

  13. IF they really are doing this, I hope they do it for ebgames in Canada as well where the pre orders sold out in an hour or two. If nothing reappears for sale on their website, obviously this is a hoax.

  14. Also, there is such a simple way to get rid of this problem. They sell preorders for a limited time. All preorders are then built to order. In todays world that would take about a month tops.

    1. This is true. I dont know why they wouldn’t go with this strategy again tbh. The SSB4 bundle with the controller and adapter had a pre-order period and afterwards a backorder period. But well not many people anticipated what happened which is why there is no GBC adapter sold separately now and now we have this huge scalper mess.
