Rumour: Toys R Us Will Apparently Be Stocking Custom Amiibo Figures

Now this one sounds rather far-fetched for a number of reasons, but Toys R Us are apparently in talks with amiibo modder Evilos to stock custom amiibos. I’m not too sure how well this would go down with Nintendo, but Evilos says he’s currently in the final negotiating stages with the popular retail chain. I will have to mark this down as a rumour for the time being. What do you think?

  1. Jokes on Nintendo when they’ve told others: “Once a product is in the consumer’s hands, they may re-sell them if they want.”

    1. If this is actually legal, then I am glad. As you said, joke is on Nintendo with their unsympathetic response to all the limited edition scalper bullshit they allowed with their stupid decisions. I just wanted damn Skull Kid Figure. But now I have to pay over $100 if I want one because of how the release was handled. Thanks Nintendo.

This was an email I sent back to Nintendo of America a while ago regarding an issue with about the Skull kid figure I too missed out on. I’m over it since I lucked out but the detail here is what I said above about their regards on products when they reach the consumer’s hands.

Nintendo doesn’t care about scalpers and they also don’t care what you do with their things once they’re in your hands. So if Nintendo really make some move against this person’s ambitions, I’d call Nintendo a hypocrite.

But I am very intrigued that this person decided to go all out and recruit a big toy retailer to carry his customs? I’d think there are better ways to sell your custom-made things like Ebay?

        1. I read that email before. That was you haha? Yeah, they would be huge hypocrites if they did anything about it. And you’re right, ebay would be a better way to make money, although by going through Toys ‘R ‘Us, he will get more exposure, so it will bring in more sales.

          1. Welcome back, LOSER!
Hahahaha! Your maker has reappeared! My business endeavors went well, now I have vacation time once again! Gather the gang Vageta-boy, the party’s just getting started! Hahahaha!

Stoopid poeple to mhuch stoopid poeple

            Toodles!

        2. Actually you’re wrong. It’s not that Nintendo doesn’t care, but more so that they can’t do anything about what someone does with a product once it’s left a retailer. It’s also up to retailers to limit the sales of a product per individual. Nintendo isn’t the problem here regarding retailer availability and the prices of their products when sold on auction sites, but instead the retailers and other consumers themselves.

          1. The way in which they announced the Limited Edition and then put it up for sale without warning is their fault. You don’t announce a limited edition and then put it up immediately in the middle of the week when most people are at work. They created the problem when they did that. Nintendo doesn’t get away from this with clean hands.

        3. Reselling what you bought is legal because you bought it and it was made by the official licence holder.
Custom Amiibo’s on the other hand aren’t made by Nintendo. Someone else is making them and he/she doesn’t have the licence to make it. Therefore it’s illegal.
You can’t take someone else’s property and make money from it. You can make money from your own properly. Every Amiibo character is Nintendo’s property except MM and Sonic, which are Capcom/Sega.

  2. No way Toy R Us would never go for it. There is no way Toys R Us would stock illegal merchandise on their store shelves. It’s copyright infringement, custom or not.

I don’t know why everybody on the internet thinks they should be allowed to make easy money off of Nintendo’s I.P.’s. From youtubers to toymakers. Geezus Christ people, be creative and come up with your own characters/ideas/games and stop bitching at Nintendo for trying to protect their’s!!

  3. I don’t know what to think about this, because I don’t fully understand what it means. But I just hate that Toys R Us is doing ANYTHING amiibo related. Their shipping department that handles shipping pre-ordered amiibos should all be fired. They shipped several amiibos to me damaged. I got my Lucario amiibos 2 days ago, and guess what? ……damaged yet again. They shipped out 2 replacement Lucarios, and again, one of them had a damaged box. WHY? Does it ever cross their mind that maybe the one that ordered them is a collector that wants them in mint condition?

They shipped the original two Lucario amiibos in a box this time. But get this…….they put them inside the box sideways (which is taller than the box itself in that direction), and they forced the flaps closed, crushing the cardboard packaging on the Lucario amiibos. Almost as if they did it on purpose.

This is like the 7th or 8th amiibo that I got damaged from Toys R Us. I received more damaged amiibos than good condition amiibos from Toys R Us. This is why I don’t normally pre-order amiibos from stores that aren’t local. Why have I not heard anyone else complaining about this? They MUST have done this to others as well.

    1. You need to complain about it. And I don’t just mean writing a single complaint. Really complain about it until they replace the damaged amiibo. Thats bullshit, and I hate when I get damaged products. I don’t stand for it. I got my Shulk Amiibo damaged from Gamestop. I didn’t notice the damage until I got home. I hopped in my car and drove right back to Gamestop and demanded another figure. At first they said they couldn’t because they only had a limited supply. But I started to throw a fit in the middle of the store and they quickly obliged..lol.. conclusion is, don’t stand for it. Get irate, raise your voice, and you’d be suprised what they will do to accommodate you..

      1. Toys R Us gave me a refund for the first 4 or 5 that was damaged (and even let me keep them). And I’ll probably keep he Lucarios too. I already gave one to my niece.

  4. Good. All items that are ordered online should be treated as mint condition collectables. Unfortunately this is not the case..
